[X] [Exam] As a once-in-a-lifetime prodigy - you'll be the best new Grey College graduate in 50 years.
[X] [Exam] As a competitor to Volans - you're a Lady Magister, with all the skills you had and almost all the spells. If you give it your all you'll be the best Grey College graduate in history.
[X] [Staff] Your newfound affinity for time and timing - how time is ultimately the deciding factor of everything that happens.

I am not sure which staff one to vote for I want all of them with the mist and time and multi wind ones the most

[X] [Exam] As an overachieving novice - just like the first timeline, you'll make an extremely good showing for a young magister.
[X] [Staff] The fog of war - how knowledge of the battlefield is the greatest power, and how you can embody that in Ulgu's mists.

I think this level of standing out is a mistake, but a reasonably in character mistake. We do love to flex.

I guess we'll see what happens. My prediction is that we're losing the Stirland job because graduating in such a high profile way will put pressure on Algard to use us elsewhere (and he will be mad at us for not being lower profile like he told us).

I do not think the Colleges can force us to leave against the wishes of an Elector Count on whose council we are and even if they can I do not think the emperor would allow it. Then again Van Hall may be glad to see the back of us.

In either case I look forward to being a show off. :V

Where we planning on doing the Vlag thing as Magister Gray?
If not then its just a question of where we're suspicious. I would probably have preferred two smaller events. But to the other end of the scale, barely passing and then releasing Vlag is hardly less suspicious.

Also high profile? Only among the Grays and maybe Dragomas and anyone they care to mention it to. Mathildes original graduation was pretty quiet, there isn't a ceremony.

E: Also I forgot to vote, so not like I can complain too much.

It could happen, but I think it's more likely that Abelhelm decides he can't trust us and asks us to resign as spymaster, rather than Algard pulling us off the job.

It's not like our Transcript will be made public, anyway. The reputation as a prodigy will remain mostly within the Colleges.

We're the grey wizard in the spotlight, showing off and generally being a awesome, while letting the other Greys get with even more stuff by hiding in our shadow.

Part of our graduation was three assassination attempts on an Emperor body double.
We might have gotten him on the third try originally. Maybe. They were doing a lot of measuring and calculating a theoretical blast radius.

I expect him to "die" every single time this time around and the guard will remember that.

I'm pretty sure we won't be given an exam that's in any way similar to our previous one: We can teleport and become invisible this time around, it would be child's play.

I suspect that while our examiner won't be someone in the know (i.e. not a LM), they will probably have a chat with whoever is running the exam to really put us through our paces, lord magister or not. But once we actually do pass that test, our grade will be 250% or something ridiculous like that.

They can. Patriarch of their Order is 5th in the priority of obedience, Electors 6th.
1. The first obedience of every Magister must be to the ideals and laws of Sigmar's Holy Empire of which these Articles form a part; then to he who is rightfully elected Emperor of Sigmar's Holy Empire; then to the Supreme Patriarch of the Colleges of Magic; then to the laws and ideals of their Order; then to the Patriarch of their Order; then to the authorities that each Magister may be required to serve in the course of his duties; then to other superiors within their Orders.
Abel's authority is above Melkoths, but below Algards according to the articles.

I mean the ECs write the laws of Sigmars Holy Empire, so yes technically you're correct but if an EC wants to argue the toss he could probably win especially if the wizard in question actively wants to work for the EC.

Also, just on the influence cost it'd probably be better for the Greys to not piss off an EC.

I don't think Algard would force it though, he's a better politician than that.

He knows Mathilde wants two things; Abelhelm not dying like a chump in Sylvania, and for Belegar to succeed in his quest.
And while he may want Mathilde closer to the college, both of the things Mathilde wants would be very good things for the Empire as a whole.

By succeeding at the first objective, It's likely that Belegar will be able to attract more help from the Empire. Putting Mathilde in a support role in that force would play to both her strengths (Anti-skaven, Waaghbane), and her desires (Help Her friends/the Dwarfs).

That the Grays produced a new master assassin isn't the same thing as the Grays produced a new Volans.

I think this is a good analysis. And yeah, a job that the Grey College was comfortable giving to a Journeywoman is probably not going to look as fitting for somebody who's made a big show out of being the second coming of Volans. If Abelhelm was eager to hang on to us that might be one thing, but that is explicitly no longer the case.

Considering (imo) that the next assignment for Mathilde after Stirland is probably K8P, I don't really see the problems.

The Stirland assignment can be framed as "we knew she was THAT good, so we let the vampires think she was a double agent, when in fact she was a triple agent all along" instead of the mess it actually was.

Selling a relatively fresh Magister to Dwarfs will be a little harder, given her age, but her having a Volans tier graduation probably helps. After she pulls Vlag out of the Warp, they can tell the Dwarfs: "Hey, we made this new thing, and we know how you don't really like new things, but this "Mathilde" managed to pull Karak Vlag out of the warp. We can Lend her to you."

She's as Dwarfy as a wizard can be! Look at those wonderful plaits! And she even grumbles when she's annoyed!

Leaving the next coming of Volans where they know she can hopefully manipulate the reconquest of Sylvania and destruction of Castle Drakenhof...

K8P is the other side of the Stirland campaign chronologically and Mathilde was only a fresh Magister at the time. Remember, after you've completed your journeyman-journey you're a master by the dwarf progression. And a fresh Master is definitionally incorrect.

While there is no pay grade difference between masters, I think the dwarfs still see the difference between a relatively recent master, and one with decades of experience. The latter is closer to getting to Grandmaster level.

Mathilde joined Belegar's expedition as someone wandering and looking for a purpose, it didn't matter how experienced of a master she was, because she was volunteering for the expedition for personal reasons.
Otoh, if she is assigned the job by the order, her performance reflects on the Grey Order. There will be an undercurrent of "couldn't they have sent someone older?" (there always will be, because dwarfs), and actually having proof that we're really, really good helps mitigate the grumbling somewhat.
