We need power to reach quartz before month 4 (or was 5?) to enter the Ark and find something to help us. We can reach that level without a boon now, but we probably will be in the weak to mid level there, and without strength we can find something good and another take it from us.
And months to years is too much a long time, and I think is hardly something Quan Jia would think. She is kind of a imediatist, and she would take power now to make it easier the task to protect her furry pillow

But wow if a 79 make us find a Dream Lady, what a nat 100 gives?

Not necessarily Master, but we need an Art or Technique at least at level 3 to add one of their keywords to our soul.

We're not a build that can easily capitalize on the long term without a serious advantage, short term gains to help keep pace with the other monsters are needed to stay relevant.
And isn't the game going to be over in a year anyway?
For folks curious about how breakthroughs work, Elder Yi Qiu will be lecturing on that (among possibly other topics) during her next cultivation class.

Passing up the chance for a bigger gain hurts, but we need something now. Bluhhh
What are thr chances something bad can happen if Jia asks if Mei Mei wants to be her... Adoptive mother or something? Mei2 is kind of the mother figure on Jia's life, but considering her past and feelings about Jia's mother... Sounds fun

I feel like problems are coming, and I'm not sure Quan Jia is motivated enough yet to really push her training.

Fingers trace across Quan Jia's face. A spark of the ineffable ignites within her soul. In fractal patterns, like the slow procession of ice covering a lake, it grows. Petals of deepest crimson blossoming from crystalline purity form around a core of fathomless azure. Dao flitters along the edges of those petals, vanishing at the slightest touch of awareness, pooling deep within the heart of a lotus consuming her soul.
Perhaps not quite yet . The words resonate in her head as though spoken from impossible distance. A sound, like the cracking of a whip, resonates in her ears as though from impossible closeness, and the lotus shatters. A thousand shards of Dream and Dao and Enlightenment drift like snowflakes down into her soul.
+25 XP to Dreamer's Endless Journey
Dreamer's Endless Journey][/B]
Potency: Diamond Core
Theme(s): Slumber, Dreams, Travel
Growth: 6 Paths
Description:
Those who wander the Dream speak of paths, glittering highways and twisted game-trails alike, portions of constancy within an infinitely mutable whole. While no two cultivators can agree upon where a path lies, or what it leads to, there are a few paths within the Dream where effort and understanding can set the stage for one's journey along it.
This art, created by the Sage of a Thousand Eyes lays out the meditations required to begin the journey upon six such paths.
First Path: the paths of Dream are as fractured mirrors to the roads of the waking world. A cultivator of the First Path takes their first steps along this fractured way and begins to perceive the branchings of if and perchance.
Mastery of the First Path grants a +2 (to a 1d100 base roll) bonus to random event, exploration, and loot rolls
XP: 10/25 -> 25/25 -> Mastered
Second Path: A fractured mirror yet reveals truths unseen. A cultivator of the Second Path once again takes their first steps along the twisted paths of Dream and refines their ability to tell true from false.
Mastery of the Second Path grants a +5 (stacks with previous bonus) bonus to random event, exploration, and loot rolls
XP: 0/50 -> 10/50
Third Path: A lotus blooms from the muck, ever seeking the light of the sun. Such was the Enlightenment imparted by Lady Shifting Sands. The paths through Dream that Quan Jia now walks are illuminated by the gentle light of the noon-day sun.
Mastery of the Third Path grants an intuitive understanding of where a path leads (mechanically voters may choose from a selection of rewards offered within the tier achieved by that roll)
XP: 0/75
To reiterate what was mentioned in thread (since not everyone reads every post), there are rolls that can occur in the background, but if Quan Jia has no reason to think something's happened, then those rolls will remain hidden. Whether that occurred here is open for interpretation.
-[] Yeah, Quan Jia was trying to make her oldest friend super strong, but did that really excuse Xiao Lien from always wearing the same ugly, boring robe. Honestly, she'd put it off for long enough, but Quan Jia would see her friend wearing decent clothes if it killed her. It wouldn't really kill her though, would it?
A mirror shatters. A Dream fades. Quan Jia finds herself back on that windswept plateau and looks down. Her head tilts in consideration as she studies her sleeping friend. Naps were always good and Xiao Lien was a top ten pillow. And since she was already asleep, she really couldn't complain about being one. On the other hand, they did have a day of shopping planned. On the third hand, how often was a situation like this likely to occur.
A bucket, sloshing with, not quite cold, but definitely not warm, water materializes in her hands and she grins malevolently. Turn about was fair play, after all.
Wrists flick, water flies, collides with a swirl of feathers, and Quan Jia pouts. "Were you just pretending to sleep?"
Xiao Lien sits up with a groan, eyes blurred with sleep and confusion, "what did? Where are? Did you try to throw water on me?"
"In order," she helps her friend to her feet, offering a steadying arm around the waist as Xiao Lien lists precariously from side to side, "a spirit, probably elder, invited us to tea, but I think you got lost on the way there. We're still on the same plateau from before you fell asleep. Well, I tried to… stupid mirrors ruining my fun."
"I'll pretend any of that makes sense," her friend seems steadier on her feet, but that's no real reason to let go. "And I guess I can't complain too much about cold water wake ups, since, you know."
"Well, I certainly thought so," Quan Jia grins, "now let's go and get you some pretty dresses."
"Do you think it might be too late for that?" Xiao Lien glances unconvincingly up at the mid afternoon sun, "shouldn't we head back… there could also be some lingering effects from the spirit thing, right?"
"Hmmm, nope," she shifts her hold so that she's got a firm grip on her friend's wrist and starts dragging, "I made an appointment and everything… you wouldn't want to be rude and cancel on a poor innocent seamstress would you?"
"Yes," Quan Jia pretends not to hear the faint response, focusing instead on making sure her friend doesn't escape as she drags her toward her new destiny.
"Lady Quan Jia, this unworthy one is most humbly grateful for the patronage." Quan Jia's eyes drift past a middle aged woman in a simple, if well cut, black dress worked with silver threading. "As requested, the shop is empty for Lady Quan Jia and Lady Xiao Lien's perusal."
"We'll call if we need you," Quan Jia waves a dismissing hand, dismissing the lady an instant later. "So where should we start?"
Xiao Lien frowns at her briefly, but turns her gaze toward racks and displays full of cloth in a thousand different shades and patterns. "How should I know?"
"Do I get to decide then?" she tilts her head in amused curiosity, "Xiao Lien would look good in frills and lace, doesn't she think?"
"No, no lace," is the almost instantaneous response, "I've seen what you did to those poor kids, I don't know how anyone's supposed to do anything but sit there like a doll with all that on."
"But they're soo cute, and isn't that what matters?" she's too amused for her pout to look even the slightest genuine, but that's never really stopped her, "it seems that you have some preferences after all…"
"Fine," her friend sighs reluctantly and asks, "do you have any… not terrible suggestions?"
"Well…" she drifts toward one of the spools of silk, fingers trailing on a peach colored fabric, pale white blossoms embroidered into the edges, "this is a pretty color and the stitch-work is very well done... but I bet Xiao Lien doesn't think so…"
"It's too… bright," Quan Jia smiles, happy that her friend seems to be giving this serious consideration.
Her smile shifts a bit impishly, as she moves toward an eye-searingly bright shade of pink silk. "So no pink either? But it's such a lovely shade…"
"I think pink is more of a you thing than a me thing," the flat stare she gets from her friend makes her not-helpfulness all the more worthwhile. "Not terrible remember, Quan Jia?"
Quan Jia relents and drifts over toward a spool of pale silver silk worked in black thread. "Well, since I think Xiao Lien is cool, maybe she should wear cool colors, silver maybe… but not white, I don't think… you'd look a bit like a ghost."
"Is that really necessary?" her friend scowls a bit, "I can't help being pale…"
"Maybe if you spent less time in front of mirrors, and more outside with your best friend…" Quan Jia smiles to show she meant nothing but gentle mockery and continues drifting around the shop.
"Or perhaps black," she traces a sapphire sunburst pattern in a length of black silk, "something to bring out the blue in your eyes…"
"That's… do you..." her friend's cheeks turn a bit pink, a shade that would go really well with the black silk, before she accepts, "ok let's try it."
"Hmm," Quan Jia pulls a display piece off of where it had been hanging, "most display dresses have modest alteration enchantments woven into them, but we'll still need a final fitting."
She hands the dress to her friend, who takes it and lets it hang between limp hands, "normally the attendant would come back and help with getting dressed…"
"No," Xiao Lien shakes her head with something like disgust, "I can put on my own clothes at least."
When actions that suit her words aren't forthcoming, Quan Jia tilts her head curiously, "we will of course buy dresses that can be materialized on… most of mine are, but shops rarely go through the expense for a display piece."
"You mean here?" blue eyes widen with an incomprehension that shifts toward something like panic, highlighted by a rapidly reddening face. "But yo- I mean- could you wait outside?"
For a moment, a frisson of hurt sparks in her chest, but today had been one of the best of days, so she focuses past it with a forced sort of curiosity, "Is this a mortal thing? I wouldn't have thought mortals practiced such a high level of modesty…"
"Yes, that's exactly it, mortal thing, definitely," her friend's head nods furiously, "so could you…"
"Hmm," her eyes flitter around the shop for a moment and she points out a few other pieces, "in that case, try the silver and the forest green dresses as well… and any others you like… we're not leaving until Xiao Lien can wear a different dress every day of the week."
"So many," she whimpers, but dutifully begins collecting dresses as Quan Jia slips out to a nearby waiting room.
Unfortunately, Xiao Lien had declined the offer of providing a fashion show for her, and as a result she'd been entirely unable to stay awake while her friend had tried on dresses. Fortunately, Xiao Lien had managed to find more than a few dresses that fit her standards and the two girls had left the shop with a half dozen new dresses stored securely within her storage ring.
[Turn 5 Vote]
Quan Jia has 4 actions she may take for this turn, of which all 4 can be cultivation. She may cultivate any particular thing up to 4 times per week.
Actions are broken up into categories that use the same general rules.
While there aren't any trap options in the sense of "rocks fall, everyone dies", there are options that are sub-optimal.
Feel free to ping me and ask for clarification or whatever on the particular voting options, if you have any setting related questions, or if you're trying to put together one of the write-in options.
1 Hour Moratorium.
Quan Jia has 13 relevant cultivation level spirit gems. She may use up to 2 (cultivation level + 1) for this week's cultivation. At least 1 is required to mitigate a 50% penalty on xp gained. Spirit gems apply their bonus to all cultivation actions taken (this rule may be revised later).
Once per month (Every 4 turns) Quan Jia may attend either or both of the training classes offered by the sect. While there, the elder will choose what will be cultivated, but they will also provide resources for said cultivation (in addition to any resources used during that turn).

For current skills: actions may be taken to use those skills (chance of reward, lower chance of skill increase) or to train them (higher chance of skill increase). For all skills: a mentor for that skill may be searched for, when a mentor is used in conjunction with a training action, it increases the chance that the skill will increase. Social actions provide no direct mechanical benefit, however, they do allow for an increase in relationship score and may unlock certain quest lines. Social actions will also gradually provide the following information for the related character: derived stats, skills they can mentor, other useful information.
Social actions are only available for characters that have been met previously. If you would like to meet new characters, go exploring.
Social actions will, for the most part, expire four turns after they were introduced. At which point they will be replaced by other options.
[] That weird shadow girl, what was her name… oh right, Ma Liqiu had stopped by to ask if Quan Jia, not Lady Quan, would be willing to join her at a teahouse. Maybe she wouldn't be so boring after all.
[] Last time they'd met, she and Shao Cuifen had sparred and then slept together. This time they were going out to get a nice lunch at that one fancy restaurant in the marketplace. Something about the order of those things seems off...
[] Libraries were a severely underrated place to nap. Between the smell of old parchment and the violent enforcement of quiet, not to mention the hundreds of cozy reading nooks, napping was almost inevitable. Or it would be if Tang Huan wasn't lurking around being weird. What do creepy guys even need with books?
[] Well, she'd promised that she'd or rather Mei Mei would test her two cute maids for cultivation potential, and now was as good a time as any. It would be cool to have a pair of combat maids...
[] Has Dai Qiao's forest grown? It certainly looks darker and more… menacing. Perhaps now was a good time to stop by. Before things explode in violence... or weirdness… or whatever...
Quest: How to Save a Life
Mitigate Luo Lifen's attempts to turn disciples against Xiao Lien and by extension Quan Jia. Failure will result in Xiao Lien's departure from the sect and possibly in her death.
Quest: Imagine.
Assist Meng Chao in the uplift of White-Caps upon Stone. There is no concrete time-table for success, although a lack of effort in assistance will result in a fracturing of the relationship between Quan Jia and Meng Chao.
[] Write in actions
This is something I want to try to mirror the freedom that tabletop rpgs offer. So how this will work is: I have and will continue hinting at upcoming interpersonal issues, storyline quests, or sect wide events. If voters wish to identify and address them before things explode they can do so here by writing in what the issue is, how it should be addressed, and an alternative action to take if incorrect. If it's correct (and whatever necessary criteria are met, e.g. relationship score) we'll start that event early, otherwise, we'll perform the alternative action.
Additionally, if voters want to go completely off the board and do something not at all reflected in the turn votes, that can be written in here.
[] Write in issue.
-[] general approach.
-[] alternative action.
This makes it seem like turn 5 is when we could attend to both. It could be a mistake, or intentional and the elder who is supposed to hold the class is just busy this month.
Also, that plus 25exp for DEJ is really nice. That saves us something like 2 turns of cultivating it, one of which would have to be with the dream pill, to get to level 2. I think.
Actually, closer to 2 turns with the dream pill to get to level 2 of DEJ.
It's really good.
I'll have to go to work soon, so I'll come back with some ideas with a plan.
This makes it seem like turn 5 is when we could attend to both. It could be a mistake, or intentional and the elder who is supposed to hold the class is just busy this month.
Yeah, I changed this since the narrative beats of those classes share some overlap, I didn't want to do it twice in one chapter. Hence their alternating schedule.

Leaning towards this. At first glance the Lady's boon has given us mastery of the First Path and altered the effect of the Third Path, which is neat. After crunching the numbers, as far as arts/techniques go we can either spend 9 actions on SGS (4 of them using the Dream Pill) to get it to the Third Dune, whilst DEJ remains at the First Path, or we spend 3 Dream Pill actions on DEJ, and 1 Dream Pill/1 normal action on SGS to get both to their Level 2 equivalent.
Right now I'd prefer the latter as I have no idea how many actions we want to spare for our actual breakthrough, but the above plan sets us up for either option.
Assuming Late Diamond Soul is 60 successes plus, 1 action here + 1 action in class + 4 action pill turn should give us approx 76.8 successes, which puts us 45.8 successes into Late Diamond Soul.
Dai Qiao is interesting, and we haven't touched base with her since the beginning of last month so I'd rather take her option now than later. Ma Liqiu could also be an option, it depends whether we get a chance to take her choice turn after next.
