But WHY?
You work your way up to the things that can step on you and not even notice.
Plus it even costs money to go there to get punished.

Also you really should not just assume that.

Um... I will not say that it is completely useless for self-defense proposes but... well, Pokemons. Wild Pokemons.

And with a Totodile that is below their level and isn't in a friendly relationship with us yet.

I'm not seeing a good reason to go there right now.

You do have some survival equipment if things get hairy, but I can't tell if it'd be worse for you if the Ursaring loves the spicy flavor of the mace or really hates it.

Walking to the first city was good enough for every other trainer, and it should be good enough for you. I feel heart-to-hearts should way until we have had appropriate general bonding/experiences. Story wise heart-to-hearts now just isn't going to be powerful, I feel. My reasons for going with what I'm going with are two fold. First, I feel like it's us actually working with the personality we know the pokemon has. A lot of RL creatures that like to bite or scratch in play love having a good target to do so, so like, making a stick with a lure on the end to do it, and then giving it praise for biting what we want, is a decent way to go*. Secondly is very much a sort of experimenting with what works that I feel like conveys a

*Finding a way to get a pet to do what you want once, even if by accident and then showering with praise is usually a pretty good technique.

Then again, you can get a real workout between Caraway and Sage! That place is covered in dark clouds 24/7 and has to have, like, ten times stronger pokemon than the ones out here. They have to be cooler and rarer than the usual fare, too, if you're feeling daring.
