We could have been a professional, but alas, it was not to be

[X] With help. Two against one odds just mean you have twice the available victims. Turn his Pokemon against one another and humiliate him with his own team.

Turning your enemy's strengths into weaknesses is a hallmark of the trickster, and the most scalable way to punch above our weight.

Idk man, tools turned humans from some low-tier pokemon into the apex predator in a world where your rat infestation can electrocute you o_o

Sounds pretty scalable to me!

I like what I'm seeing so far.

Trixie has Nasty Plot, and this is the nastiest option. Machop has a type advantage against Geodude, plus it's a physical attacker so it can send out an unparalyzed ranged attack if it gets lucky. Taking humans down a peg is cool too.

This being set ahead of canon by such a large degree is weird and different. Even if Ash and the game protagonist get retconned, I've always considered the gym leaders immutable. Getting them replaced is a daring step, and just as world shaking as being set in a different region entirely.

I think Trixie would fit being in an evil team. If she can stomach working with humans, being able to screw with humans on an international scale could be fun for her, if she was a Meowth equivalent instead of a captured mon.

I don't think she could. Trixie is kind of a jerk towards humans to put it lightly, bit she appears to be civil with other Pokemon. There's a difference between being mischievous and evil, and she may have stepped over the line here, but she's pretty young. Also assuming we are never caught I don't really think who the gym leaders are will matter to us.

Also, in terms of getting caught:

Pokeballs are not mind control devices.

Generally, frome the anime, pokemon tag along with trainers they respect.

Beating them in a fair fight, then capturing them in a pokeball? That just proves you are a good trainer, and if you want to get stronger, you might as well hang out with that trainer.

I doubt anyone who puts Trixie in a pokeball is going to earn her respect.

And the foremost of those tools are... other pokemon. Tech may have made taking this deathworld's power and turning it against itself easier, but the foundation and soul of humanity's success here was and still is the trainer/mon dynamic which long predates the silph co. pokeball.

The rest is just window dressing, really. if you make it our goal to pilot one of team rocket's giant mechs though I certainly wouldn't mind.

Humans main strength in Pokémon is their social aptitude and ability to make friendships, not their tool use or intelligence. No joke, the power of friendship is the key to their success. Wild Pokémon are in constant conflict with eachother, and the ones who are actually just humans, but better, like the Abra line, Ralts line, Gothita line, and even Ash's Dad, should be able replicate their success, but just choose not to. It's probably because they don't have the empathy or social instincts to connect the dots without human interference.

Pokémon Rangers are the exemplars of this winning philosophy.

So I think its fair to read it like you have and I agree there should be consequences, but I think its a flawed reading to take it as far as she'll actually be caught or even remotely humbled. We're still establishing the foundations of the story, the behavior she has formed being shown to us as readers so that we can understand its extent.

I really like your thoughts on this, and it does give me hope that Trixie might be getting out of this with a win (if maybe a somewhat humbling win).

Humans main strength in Pokémon is their social aptitude and ability to make friendships, not their tool use or intelligence.

Heck in real life too. The current research on the evolution of human intelligence seems to imply that the benefit of being able to cooperate more effectively was the driving evolutionary force behind humanity's intelligence explosion. (Intelligence and the ability to make friends are actually pretty related.)

And it makes perfect sense to me that the same would be true in a world with pokemon. The only difference is that cross-species cooperation is even more important for humans in the pokemon world than in ours.

EDIT: Trixie is not so great at that right now though. We should maybe work on that. 😅

It's not exactly an equal friendship for the Pokemon though, more a Master and Servant relationship. And practically everyone participates in blood sport aka Pokemon battle's or animal fighting.

Let's make no bones about it, being a trainer Pokémon is infinitely preferable to being a wild Pokémon. The ability to access Pokémon centers alone spike survivability, and makes it much easier for Pokémon to evolve since they can push themselves to their limits without consequence. Wild Pokémon die all the time, we saw that with big threats like a raticate and furret trying to take a bite out of Trixie. Her only other option was to ask for help from a Pokémon like Audino, who don't exist in Kanto.

If these were Mystery Dungeon Pokémon, sure, screw humans, but PMD this ain't.

Wild Pokémon are much more likely to live in mediocrity and fear, because evolving isn't a needed part of their development-remember old man Treeko from the anime? They can live out their natural lifespans in their base forms, so being in the wild just sucks. To level grind, you need to participate in actual life and death battles. If you can do that safely, well...Who exactly is gonna fuck with a well trained Charizard?

Trixie is lucky. She's bred from trained stock, and lives in Viridian Forest. Imagine if she was born somewhere like Mt. Silver.

It's like being a stray dog. Sure, they're free, but that just means that they need to steal and kill to survive. If they get torn open, it's game over. Trixie would be dead herself if it wasn't for Ash saving her.

Pokémon can also leave their trainers whenever they want, unless you subscribe to the theory that poke balls make them friendlier.

Even then, most people who live with Pokémon aren't Pokémon trainers, or at least, the kind that participate in official League matches for. Uh. Money probably?

The vast majority of people in the anime aren't like this. Coordinators are equally as populous, but people who use Pokémon for work or companionship far outstrip them. Gardeners, librarians, nurses, archeologist, magicians, Pokémon are involved in a vast array of occupations and multifaceted relationships with the people around them. Heck, trainers don't exist in the Ranger Regions of Fiore, Almia, and Oblivia. Or as an even better example, Rime City. I'm sure there's someone out there who could appeal to Trixie's goblin mindset.

This is all fairly pointless however. Pokémon has enough different continuities and ways you can tweak the setting that anything is on the table. We don't even know if this is anime Ash or Electric Tale of Pikachu Ash.

The real dragon swap is the names of Flygon and Salamence. Like in what world does it go Bagon-Shelgon-Salamence, when flying is literally its specific trait that it's been going for in lore this entire time and the name is of the same pattern.
Trapinch's entire evolution line are an antlion life cycle, and I absolutely love that they turned it into a dragon type. Don't touch my precious baby.

The issue is the name, not the type. It should be Bagon->Shelgon->Flygon and Trapinch->Vibrava->Salamence, not Bagon->Shelgon->Salamence and Trapinch->Vibrava->Flygon.

Oh this is an absolutely incredible quest so far. Trixie is an absolute delight to read about, the writing is top notch, and the just everything about it is great. I'm really looking forward to reading more.

dudes arrogant, not thinking clearly, likely somewhat green, and rock is weak to fighting. If we can get the Machop to take out the Geodude we'd be most of the way to victory.

E: Because Pokemon has a lot of The Power of Friendship going on, and the other side of the Power of Friendship is simply that, pound for pound, having someone to help you is simply a really efficient way to get things done. Even if that's against their intentions, or you're doing it by disrupting bonds that aren't well forged.

A trickster who plays with that territory sounds like a neat play on Pokemon's themes.
