Mechanically, Nilfellian Special Expeditionary Legion does seem the best. The increase in Oath of Winter's range plays to our advantage. It also means that the folks in The Empire etc might not be as willing to start some sort of fight with a kingdom with Two Rank 10+ combatants. Since who knows how many more there might be or what other sort of bullshit they might have!?
Whatever we do, we should try to take advantage of Adorie's presence.

Both these options are hilarious and I don't really care!
For practical purposes the special expeditionary legion is best, since the -.5 rank is disastrously powerful at this level and applying it to more things is just evil.

Let's also remember that Privateer might also be the most dangerous, Apo-chan can possibly use it to have Armaments gang up on us.
Nilfel Expedition also means that anyone who Apo-chan is using against us to fuck us over, will be acting on an distinct disadvantage in all things including scheming especially since -0.5 means a shit ton rank here in the Human Sphere.

We can't become a pirate, just recall the fate of Evening's previous bearer! Piracy's responsible for his death as much as the Apocryphal Curse or our Blade. Besides, one can't be both buccaneer and hero; there's no room in Hunger's panoply for a straw hat. Capitalism provides more opportunities for highway robbery anyway:

Hunger would get +ISH sexiness as a pirate. Imperial noble ladies will ambush him so they can become his captives. Also with Adorie and Gisena, noble men would also like to be captured by the powerful pirate king and his entourage of beautiful female crewmates.
Also the eyepatch has to come back. No self respecting pirate would be missing one, it would add a lot of Rank gain.

Shit, this is a rough vote. On the one hand, there's a bunch of extremely fun and entertaining options. On the other hand, this is going to be our introduction to the Human Sphere and thus it's monumentally important for our future endeavours.

Elixir Foreign Legion is also good for the immediate inroads it makes with the Empire but making our polities vulnerable to non-Armament assault (until we move them into the Walls anyway) is dicey with the Apocryphal. And of course, the range increase to Destruction is very good.

While this would be fun it would actually require us to obtain the armament in (mostly) one piece. Most of our abilities are firmly in the "annihilate" category. Seems like too much trouble. Easier to just raid merchant vessels. Corrupt/evil ones of course... or ones that make us mad but that automatically makes them evil anyways so same difference.

Got to back up my boy Hunger. If he wants to roleplay as a pirate, I say let him! I guess Hunger can now aim towards a more concrete goal: becoming the Pirate King! Now, we just need to figure out where in the Voyaging Realm the legendary treasure One Piece is buried...
Shame that we might actually need to adhere to parley if called upon, but hey, the pirate code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.
