I'll buy your vote for winter, in return for a vote (after this one of course) of your choosing. Except for during the coming Pillars proc, where I have already committed to choosing maximum rest.
Acceptable.
It's a tight vote and I'd like to shift the scales towards my preferred option so I'm gonna try my hand at the vote market for once, not that I make a habit of doing so but I'm pretty invested in seeing Adorie through. Not sure if I'm doing this right but if I'm not, lemme know.

I'm offering to the next two people to take this up and vote for King of Winter, on first come first served basis:
  • 1 veto-less marker with a complimentary 1k+ word effort-post argument or reaction when called upon. Applicable to any criteria, even DEATH GANG.
  • 1 marker with veto for the next Build Vote.
This might be a better deal, though. Does it stack?
[X] The Tears of Winter: King of Winter

[X] The Ring of Power: Crimson Flare

With Feat: Saber gaining less traction, time to switch again. I prefer this one because it involves improvement of skill and not just raw power. I remember loving to read portions of previous Rihakuquest where they show us how ridiculous high-level skills are and how its another true multiplier with Uryuu's Ransotengai coming to mind.

But can we at least ask Gisena to research a Grace like that one Sorceress in the previous Simple Transaction where she is an instant expert in a lot of things?

Acceptable.

This might be a better deal, though. Does it stack?
I had considered us as selling 2 separate offers so I assumed qwolfs had dibs on yours, so to speak, but strictly speaking the deal hasn't been finalized so it could technically stack with mine.
Ultimately though due to the tight race of this vote, I'm inclined to decline so there isn't any redundancy and a greater chance of another person switching their vote.

Rihaku stuff on Oath of Winter In Discord General:

Just happened around now.

No, the contest is one time

[8:48 PM]
upon declaring the Oath she fights any potential challengers

[8:48 PM]
if she wins there are only benefits, no drawbacks

[8:48 PM]
if she loses

[8:48 PM]
she is annihilated

[8:48 PM]
that's all

Only a Mirellyian can declare the Oath. So With Crimson Flare all we have to worry about is regular apocryphal stuff on our holdings if we take Adorie with us.

[X] The Tears of Winter: King of Winter

A difficult choice, but in the end Tears of Winter slightly edge out the Ring. I won't be sad if it wins, though.

[X] The Ring of Power: Crimson Flare

Having thought about it, I've decided that I fully intend to stick to my original plan to argue for leaving Adorie behind despite Myth and Legend, which means that the main Winter benefit of being able to safely take her with us doesn't apply, and thus Crimson Flare is probably better.

I think I have speculation on how things would have gone if we took the Blood Sorcery/Daylian route and still fought the armament assuming everything goes optimally. Daylian heals us. We use his Lazulite powers and Blood Sorcery to fix the Synthesis problem and reach the 6th or hopefully 7th sign. We engage Procyon with the Apocryphal Armament. Daylian is such a hubristic fool he insists on riding into battle on our Armaments back to fight too. That could have been cool.

"Drive me closer I want to hit him with my sword!"

Hopefully we quickly make any requests like that from him moot points before he makes them with Deathly Stars enhanced with Rank Hybridization quickly annihilating Procyon.

The Oath of Winter

[9:37 PM]
anyone in Nilfel can challenge her

[9:38 PM]
She prevailed against those challengers, of unknown number

[9:38 PM]
this all occurred when Hunger

was unconscious

Which three Lesser Remittances would you take, however?

Would Ceathlynn of Amarlt stumble onto Hunger, or the power of Relinquishment arise within?
Relinquishment + some power based Remittances like Quantified World and TSH (Praxis) if we can take Seram's Lesser Remittances. Adding too many companions doesn't sound good since we're already adding Adorie.

Accursed Favor might be nice too, since it gives the mental satisfaction of repaying some of the huge debt we owe him so Hunger might get + Mental Stability or at least have a better relationship with his employer.

[X] The Tears of Winter: King of Winter

Switching because I want to proactively pursue Accursed Lore and get that new Curse. If it is relevant at our new level, the loot and info from the Shard of the Arcanist would be nice too.

All this talk of the possibility of taking another curse is pretty interesting, and since I'm a lore junkie, I'm switching again.

[X] The Tears of Winter: King of Winter

When we can just get Rune King and append TSH to all the magic systems we have, spending a Lesser Remittance on it is incredibly wasteful.
We regrew our eye so that isn't an option, though well taken on talent boosters in general. Pretty sure the Accursed won't shortchange us if he offers the option to pick Lesser Remittances, though I support getting favour the most anyway.

It was mentioned in the Discord General at 4:26 AM today that...

R'Today at 4:26 AM
Since Myth won, Adorie will be coming with you, yes

[4:27 AM]
however

R'Today at 4:27 AM
it is unknown how the populace will respond to this

you may want to come up with some strategy

[4:27 AM]
PR-wise to excuse this

[4:27 AM]
if you care

R'Today at 4:27 AM
bribery via Ennoblement and/or Fonts of Myth is of course

[4:27 AM]
one viable, though incomplete method

Praxis is too powerful to work with Rune King anyway.

To me it seems like our best bet for the Adorie situation is to frame it as a mission to support Aobaru in restoring the Realm of Myth to it's true heights. A mission that grand will naturally take her across both the voyaging realm and the human realm! While she wishes she could stay for her people, this is what must be done to fix the damage that time and the Lord Protector have wrought.

This has the benefit of being entirely accurate, if rather misleading about the emphasis of what she will be doing.

Crimson Flare
King of Winter

Hunger's Combat Ability
  • Bloodcasting that can pierce an Armament's Shroud
  • Categorical immunity to mundane harm, and a massive increase in the Ring's regenerative & healing abilities. Don't forget that Rihaku has teased us with the option to grant the Ring's healing to all of Hunger's companions via a blood-link!
  • Nearly absolute tactical and strategic awareness on the battlefield. With Honing, wits contribute to bloodcasting range.
  • Long distance bloodsense provides opportunity for stealth & ranged combat. Hard to overstate how much this opens up our tactical and strategic options if we enter into political contests or intrigue.
  • +58 to Hunger's physical stats, +24 to mental stats. Both will grow over time as we take more Blood Buffs.
    • Remember that Honing will unlock the third tier of +Progression Blood advancements
  • +75% attack speed - I have already explained why I think this is a major boost to the damage output of Artful Thorn
    • Explicitly provides +250% damage output, but I'm not sure if that includes system synergies with Praxis
  • Increase Health, Damage Resistance, Condition Resistance by 75%
    • Powerful synergies with ADS, which gets a boost to the ablative defense and then any damage or effect that makes it through is reduced by a factor of 4
Companion Stats
  • Gisena: +2 Rank, which is the stat that defines her use of the Azure Ring;
    • +20 Wits, +15 Will, +10 INT/WIS are all very important for the purposes of Artifice & Ordinalism
    • Architect of the Age boost w/Adorie pairs with option to unlock Status: Foremost Maker
  • Letrizia: +2 Rank, which is the foundational input for her Element.
    • Mental Stats will help with political maneuvering & investigation into her betrayal. +10 Luck helps to avoid additional assassinations.
  • Adorie: No additional Rank Gain, but +30 Might, +25 AGI make it much safer to bring her into combat as a Praxis heatsink. The boost to mental stats more than doubles the stat gain from her 28 Arete EFB.
  • Adorie also gains the bonuses to Health, Damage Resistance, Condition Resistance, Attack Speed, and Damage Dealt mentioned above.
    • A potentially major consideration: Brings relationship with Adorie to above +20
  • Aobaru: Rank gain commensurate with A Chosen Purpose. Physical stats are boosted along ISH by vigorflame. The real standout here is +LUCK and +WIS/INT to make up for the malus of being a Teenager.
  • Aobaru: Advances his quest, grants our first +Aobaru relationship boost
  • Aeira: I was going to put a meme here but she actually has gotten quite a lot of advancement from being with Hunger.
    • Shadow Cloaks scale with the *target's* power, so Aeira's contribution will always be party-relevant.
    • Meanwhile, she got a +Potential for 7A
  • Versch: Nice.
Civilian Stats

  • From First Flaring, there will be a huge number of Nilfel Legionnaires, shopkeepers, & Artisans that jump +2 Ranks,
    • Even the fish-seller's Rank was somewhere between 5 and 6.
    • It's a long-term concern, but lifespans will be dramatically increased even beyond the centuries-long average lifespan they currently enjoy.
    • Architect of the Age provides dramatic boost to Nilfel's relevance to Hunger in this Geas Task
  • The interim Sovereignty government runs mostly on Ennoblement. Giving that faction +1 Rank would be a dramatic improvement, with or without becoming a protectorate of Nilfel.
  • Comically, the Temple Remnant lifespan would be longer than what they got from torturing the Azure ring
  • Nilfel gains 2/3 of the boosts mentioned above, amounting to +50% Health, Damage Resistance, Condition Resistance, Attack Speed / +166% Damage Dealt

Curse Effects (King of Winter Only)
  • Season's Greetings provides a massive opportunity for indirect apocryphal mitigation
  • Hunger can treat Nilfel as a temporary safehouse to briefly escape an Apocryphal proc
    • Note that this will limit Hunger's time actually spent in Nilfel
  • Lets Adorie leave Nilfel without painting a target for Apocryphal procs
  • Opportunity to accept the Brand of Winter, take additional Lesser Remittances

Plot Considerations
  • Ennobles Nilfel's populace
    • Advent of a new age & new glories
  • Can still meet Arcanist Shard later in plot
  • Repairs Fonts, Walls of Myth
    • Restoration to prior glory
  • Pacifies Arcanist Shard
  • Puts a narrative bow on our time in Nilfel

What a feat of BBcode engineering. Most of this is not new information, so let me jot down the things that I think are actually insightful:

In terms of combat ability, King of Winter makes Hunger much better at hitting things with his sword. There's a huge amount of power dedicated to direct close quarters combat. However, the blurb for Crimson Flare explicitly comments on the ability to bloodcast through an Armament's Shroud. I think there's a strong argument for using esoteric attack vectors against Armaments instead of just powering up our existing tactics. The tactical awareness of Bloodsense is also a fairly dramatic powerup.

Crimson Flare provides a lateral power boost, which can also be useful in other parts of warfare. Having realtime perception over a national scale via bloodsense is a massive advantage for maneuvering. Long Range awareness also allows for precision assassinations & political manipulation without Hunger ever being present. If an opponent tries to set up an assassination attempt on us, they might just have a heart attack. If a rebel tries to give an inspiring speech, maybe they just have an off-day and everybody finds them uninspiring / pathetic.

In terms of our allies, Crimson helps our entire party while King of Winter only helps Adorie. The decision is between a targeted combat buff for Adorie, or a competency boost to the entire party (including Adorie!)

In terms of civilians, Ring of Blood puts some power into the society of Nilfel as a whole. Unfortunately, in the Rihakuverse the power of societies means very little compared to the power of individuals. The infrastructure of the Fonts + Walls of Myth are probably more important than any number of Nilfelian mages.

The real point of uncertainty in my mind is whether King of Winter's curse-related effects outweigh the mechanical effects from Crimson Flare. Being able to take a 1-week break from Apocryphal threat is worth an entire Lesser Remittance (Relinquishment) and it only activates once per decade. Even a day's respite from Apocryphal is huge. We could use Nilfel as a staging ground for delicate rituals / spells, or as a destination for emergency Nightmare Flights. Season's Greetings is very good.

The opportunity to take Brand of Winter is also good, but right now I'm not sure what Lesser Remittances I'd be eager to take. The cast of characters is already big, and we've got simps flinging themselves against Armaments for Big Sis Haeliel while Adorie & Gisena partisans fight in the streets. So additional companions are probably out. Intensify (Accretion) would curtail the vast majority of Hunger's out of combat utility - we've used Rank for things like research & making contact with the Royalists. Closing that off now that we always operate at a minimum of Rank 10 would be very painful.

Retinue would be good, even though I find the reduction in Progression distressing. Relinquishment would be appealing. Maybe Talon? I'd only be satisfied if there were some new Lesser Remittances to pick from as well!

#1202 Words, but half of them were summarizing things from the update that people already knew.

I thought Rune King had a limit as to the power of what TSH would apply to, or am I mixing it up for something else? It's been a long time.

You're thinking of Philosopher's Wreath, which mulitplied our advancement speed in a given magic syste by our INT (along with some other stuff), so long as that system is equal to or weaker than the Noble Praxis.

Even if we don't get any relevant utility, Relinquishment guarantees Gisena will eventually get research time (since the time on break we get can be scaled up through mitigating our curses and we already have decent amount of mitigations). In addition, it means we have a few days of not being fucked by Tyrant-enforced blindspots which can be huge for vital social interactions like Seize the Day type plans.

If a Least Wish or something is up for grabs we can just wish to straightforwardly empower ourselves.

It's clear that the Accursed changes Lesser Remittances on a case by case basis so he definitely has something that should be relevant at our level, though my main motivation is just to try and repay our debt tbh.
