Voting for personality death for Hunger is just too much. I'll take whatever's winning that isn't that.

"I'll make it to them," he said, red of his Ring blazing forth like a sun. "And I'll stand, here. Here, and tomorrow, and however many battles henceforth, no matter the odds, no matter the forces arrayed against me, until they are ripped from their thrones and put to the sword. That is what I am and I can be nothing less."

Well, I'm satisfied.

Hunger's character has been completely developed and permanently seared into reality as a Hero that is willing to take on impossible odds an infinite number of times, if that is what it takes to overcome the Hidden Ones. I'm sure that even without direct control over him, whatever epilogue he might achieve would be totally in line with the aesthetic that has been built by us.

Culmination.

[ ] Follow Through - You talk a big game, but when it comes down to the wire, can you truly follow through? As per His Shroud Was Down, but also use The Shattering Blow. Not even the lineage of the Forebear in his place of power could withstand that uttermost strike, and that was from a Hunger vastly lesser than today's. If even this supreme assault cannot bring forth a conclusion, then he never had any chance at all. +Recklessness, +++Willpower, +3 Haeliel Points, +1 Haeliel Favor.

*The highest chances of crippling the Armament to the point where it would be unable to penetrate the Walls of Myth.
*Obliterates the large majority of Hunger's memories, experiences, spiritual essence (including Rank) and personality. He would still retain the Armor of Midnight for its duration, however.
*Damage done can be ablated through Arete expenditure, though this is extremely inefficient. Each Arete spent will preserve 1% of Hunger's current memories and Advancements, prioritizing those most important to him. You currently have about 41 Arete. A maximum of 75% of Hunger's identity can be preserved.
*Shatters the Forebear's Blade again. Unlocks Refinement of Purpose.
*Identity may persist, or it may not, but heroism lives forever.

Super hardcore and practically guarantees victory. But Shattering the identity built up over the quest seems counter-intuitive to our efforts in developing Hunger to this point and with all of the risks we've taken to get here, why not chance it a couple more times?

This isn't the end of the fight, it hasn't even begun yet, so let's grasp onto the possibility of victory without Shattering. Refinement of Purpose is probably one of the cooler sounding Praxis techniques though.

@Kurowari, mind voting for Foe-Defeating Stance if you're going for that, btw? Hunger should be able to snap buy it for 21 Arete and zero picks, and it was mentioned in the past to be more suitable for combating Armaments in comparison to All-Defeating Stance.

Sure. That sounds like an interesting purchase, good for Rank-farming and fighting superior opponents in the future so I'm willing to back it. Hopefully, around 25 Arete still allows us to get full advantage of like a 5-pick EFB reward should we manage to defeat Procyon.

This is my first instinct. The FDS has some wrinkles, but +ISH Wisdom and Luck will help Hunger to smooth out the implementation, especially if it qualifies as a military matter. I'm confident about the way that Armor of Midnight and Deathly Star will perform in our time of need. Armor is really good and the cost, thanks to Adorie, was much less than we were bracing ourselves for.

I was already willing to commit to buying a re-roll if we survive to December, which makes this plan somewhat more appealing. An Alpha Strike followed by a slugfest relying on the Armor of Midnight leans in to the kind of attrition tactics that pulled wins out of the Vanreir and Avecarn fights. In particular, buying additional time for Gisena to come up with an oblique exploit with her range of utility effects increases our odds.

The strongest argument for 'Seize the Day' is that we are going to retire to the Realm of Evening, and can recover somewhat. The second strongest argument for Seize the Day is that +1 Haliel Favor might be able to wish-away a fairly significant portion of the side effects from Shattering Blow.

The strongest argument against 'Seize the Day' is that I fundamentally believe our build for Hunger is good enough to survive this. Haeliel's Favor is an obscene power boost, and we have a variety of situational advantages. Seize the Day eliminates all chance of outright victory in exchange for a higher probability of a pyrrhic victory.

Follow Through is probably best combined with Adorie.

Can Gisena use her ultimate repeatedly, especially with Adorie combined to negate whatever negative effects are caused?

Ah, this is hard. Shattering Blow is guaranteed, but it costs us around 50% of Hunger's power and identity and all our Arete. Maybe the Haeliel favor can restore some of that, but I don't like to count on it.

Seize the Day and His Shroud was Down are better, but still risky. Seize the Day relies on Procyon's pilot not going "screw it", but if we pull it off then we get much of the benefits of Fall Back. His Shroud was Down is just "Go all out, hope we win."

I don't actually know what the effects of Foe-Defeating Stance are. I even checked my new Patreon membership lore, and no dice. We know that it's intended to be used against opponents stronger then oneself... Which definitely applies here. Still, it's an inefficient advancement, since we can't have it and All-Defeating active at the same time.

But it's less expensive then Shattering Blow, so...

Refinement of Purpose is clearly a Praxis technique. It's also, just as clearly, a defining technique.
...I suspect it causes total Praxis Investiture. Puts everything of yourself into it. And/or it's a tool for redefining yourself - the Praxis emanates wholly from the self, and depends mostly on effort and self-sacrifice. I bet it effectively gives infinite willpower.
I also wonder if, in just the one specific sphere that is 'Who Hunger Will Be', it's equivalent to a True Wish. (Maybe by redirecting the power of the Tyrant's Doom.) Able to actually heal the parts of his self that matter to him.
...and, a Haeliel Favor is a True Wish if used to defend from an Apocryphal proc. That might mean he can heal to full from this, but only if he loses. And it is a guaranteed win success.
But it does seem like the sort of choice that would end the quest, and I don't know if I want that ending. I'm sort of having Uttermost flashbacks again, but much more ambivalent - this feels like a logical extension of the Hunger for whom Uttermost was a better fit than Inheritor.
What does a real win look like, then? Actually, to borrow a term from the Cultist Simulator previews, this would strike me as a minor victory. I want a major one. So what does that look like?
"A kinder world than this." I want Hunger to ...pardon the expression, it was too good to pass up... have his cake, and eat it too. I want his story to be one that defies the Hidden Ones' narrative at least as well as it would've if he'd chosen Freedom. I want it to be kind. I want it to be happy. The Accursed, when it comes down to it, is so sad. I suppose that'd happen, if you wanted to make the omniverse better and the overwhelming majority response - at least from those with power - was to make it as difficult as possible.
And what would that take? I think it would take the promise of it all having been worth it. Undoing the damage is one option; the sacrifices being necessary is another. But the former is preferable, because the latter isn't plausible.
Therefore, no truly permanent injuries. Therefore, long-term survival without them.
So I'm voting Seize the Day. Probably-worst-case scenario, Procyon kills everyone except Hunger, who evacuates via Nightmare Flight. As Gisena has so recently reminded us, Live And Grow Strong means we can fix our blunders. And this sort of gambit is a precedent I'm willing to set: risking anyone - except us for the moment, because we're the only one with Progression - for a better chance of saving everyone.
(Incidentally, I kind of suspect the current order of the cosmos is 'there are always more bosses'. Which is kind of funny, actually.)
