this isn't what i got out of the update at all

Alternatively, we're likely to survive a +50% Apocryphal proc, as evidenced by the Accursed's continued investment in us moving forward. He rewards hard work, right? Would we get an invitation to Cursebearer Ikea if we'd signed up for 5 weeks of vacation instead of Doing Our Utmost?
Coaching this in terms of of him doing this for our benefit and outright saying "good work *but* X" implies that X is going to happen despite all of our good work and this will help.

We wouldn't have gotten an invite, but that would be because a non strained Hunger wouldn't have been in such dire need of it right then and there.

I hope your optimism leads you to happiness

[X] Daylian Erranthus [Committed, 7 Arete]

I love this guy. Also we need to learn ressurrection magic so we can keep bringing this guy back after his many inevitable deaths.

"Our patron possesses will beyond measure. If we mortals ever wish to approach his proficiency in the Work, we cannot hope to abide on grit alone. We are creatures of habit for whom environment trumps resolve. To pursue the Work effectively, abandon the idea that determination equals diligence. Instead, sculpt your life around it. Willpower is scarce and fleeting, but the habits of a lifetime will always endure."

Man, this guy is full of good advice. I really like Wolber, even if the Brand represents some initial difficulties with regards to interaction, I have faith that his continued wisdom and sagacity will eventually lead to us becoming friends. While a bad first impression is hard to overcome, that's all it is: a bad first impression.

[X] The Seraph of Heroism, Haeliel [Basic, 50 Arete]

Hunger's been burned by heroism before, but this woman embodies the highest form of that ideal: victory for the righteous and justice for all. Haeliel's fair and bright in a way that no mere bloodline could ever match; truly Good characters are rare as hen's teeth. Despite the cost in Arete and opportunities, I'd like to see Hunger interact with her, because he deserves some brightness in his life. If Gisena develops Reversion or one of the Maiden's other resurrection Graces, she could bring Catherine back.

[X] Daylian Erranthus [Committed, 7 Arete]

this update was cool.

One Word: Vindicate
Other Words: Philosopher's Wreath

So many problems, un-happened.

We're gonna need to go back to the mines.

Power enough to guarantee a fairer, brighter future depends on it.

[X] The Seraph of Heroism, Haeliel [Basic, 50 Arete]

Hunger getting to see his wife again without an amount of time in scientific notation would be something really great, tbh.

Imagine what Lord Hunger's blurb on one of these would read like.

Now there's a fun writing prompt if I've ever seen one!

[ ] Lord Hunger [Basic, 7 Arete] / [ ] Lord Hunger [Committed, 25 Arete]

Type: Progression
Primary Remittance: The King's Scepter
Curses: The Geas of Indenture [Mitigation Stage II] , The Decimator's Affliction [Mitigation Stage II] , The Doom of the Tyrant, The Apocryphal Curse [Mitigation Stage II]

"Tremble, traitor gods and traitor kings. For the hour of reckoning is nigh, and the price of your hubris is blood"

Once, there was a boy from Earth, a fated quest, and a magic sword. But fate is a fickle thing, and there are beings beyond its power. The adventure-dalliance of a season became a grueling, wretched war of years, the boy became a soldier, and, in the end, both man and blade were broken.

Now, there is only Hunger.

Grizzled, scarred, and missing an eye, the man calling himself Lord Hunger is blunt, direct, and utterly single-minded. He will pursue a given objective with relentless determination and aggression, and while his chosen remittances make this an exceptionally potent strategy, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate strategy from suicidal recklessness. Moreover, his unmitigated Tyrant's Doom makes Hunger challenging to divert or reign in.

[Hero's Panoply] Lord Hunger wields a panoply of powerful artifacts, each connected intrinsically to the Cursebearer's own mythic power. This grants him (among other abilities) superhuman physical parameters, the ability to use a number of potent magic systems, and limited access to the Royal Praxis through the medium of swordplay. Notably, Hunger's sorcerous abilities make him particularly skilled at empowering allies and vassals on the battlefield.

[Hunger] He also possesses a Ring of Power, which grants him vastly increased Progression from combat encounters while crippling his ability to gain power through conventional training, in addition to a number of esoteric effects including power over blood on a planetary scale.

Committed: Hunger will devote himself fully to protecting you from the Apocryphal Curse, pursuing that goal with maximum focus and determination. Good Luck.

[X] The Seraph of Heroism, Haeliel [Basic, 50 Arete]

As a matter of both Watsonian long-term planning and Doylist lore hunger, this is the only option that I find acceptable.

We can learn so many things about Hunger's past, The Forebear, our powers and our isekai realm, this realm, The Hidden Ones, and so on. We can revive Catherine, if not soon then much, much sooner than we otherwise would be able to. We're able to be absolutely saved from a devastating Apocryphal Proc once per Geas task (presumably including the Onslaught). We get the chance to unlock a committed apprenticeship/relationship with a High Cursebearer given enough time. The benefits are absolutely nuts.

If we're willing to spend two of her three bonuses on it, we could probably have Haeliel do it herself. I would be shocked if she doesn't have a way to resurrect people, and getting someone resurrected is a valid use of a Lesser Wish.
Hailiel's ability to intercede on Hunger's behalf is way more valuable than mere resurrection of the semi-recently dead, even across worlds. We know the Maiden's Graces can cough up the capability: Seram's Reversion could do it with a time limit, Lady Alabaster had perfect resurrection at the cost of permanent enervation, it was mentioned that Joanian military incentivized heroism by occasionally raising exceptional champions, etc.

I've no doubt she could do it (and would be happy to, because that's just who she is) but her assistance should be saved for tasks that Hunger can't accomplish without her, like no-selling an Apocryphal proc or deflecting the attention of the Hidden Ones. Speaking of our intended adversaries, they keep getting more concerning the more we learn of them. Even a High Cursebearer can't act with impunity where they're concerned, no wonder even Intensified Imperial Praxis Hunger couldn't outscale them.
I thought I couldn't like this guy any more than I already do but then you posted this.

Like our own personal lemming, eagerly searching for cliffs to fling himself off of.
He's already died of Hubris multiple times, expending his Remittance-granted stock of extra lives! The man must have a gold medal in mental gymnastics by this point.

[X] Wolber Strobe [Committed, 12 Arete]

gotta be repping my man W O L B E R

you the real MVP my guy

do it for all the nerds who'll never get the offer

do it for us

Forgive me, but is there an option to import The Nettlespine?

Please? :)
Hm, Imperia with the power of Progression... a thought so cursed we ought to gain Remittance Value for having it. Old wounds aside, her suitability's probably pretty good, or would be in another eight years on her current trajectory.
Curses: The Brand of the Wretched [Mitigation Stage II], The Affliction of Leprosy [Mitigation Stage I], The Mutilating Affliction [Mitigation Stage II], The Apocryphal Curse [Mitigation Stage III]
The overlap is interesting, once Hunger finishes Fisher King his spread of Curses'll be similar to Wolber's when it's up and running. That could be grounds for commiseration. Misery loves company, after all, and swapping Apocryphal horror stories sounds like a fun bonding activity. But the early days of the Brand butting up against the Tyrant's Doom would be rough. Though Hunger did receive direct instructions from the Accursed on this matter, so he could dodge that bullet by viewing tolerance as heeding his patron's commands.

What happens if the two iterations of the Apocryphal dovetail, anyway? Can Curses collaborate to bank credibility? Strain was scary enough to trigger this interruption, but it can always get worse. Gisena might be able to provide more mitigation for Wolber... but Gisena could do a lot of things, she just hasn't have the hours in the day for most of them; in hindsight, maybe Time would've been a better Chief Dominion for the Azure. Hubris mitigation for Daylian will have to be a priority if he wins, though, there's no way he'll survive otherwise. At least this hero's suicidal recklessness is magically induced, so she can throw Nullity at it?

Looks like the tally is grouping the basic and committed votes together. Oh well no one is going to vote for basic anyways so I suppose it doesn't matter.
