Chapter 1, Turn 3
"Alright, alright. I got a plan." You said, trying to keep your composure. "Michelle, Iris, load HE. We'll try and take them on in close range."

You could feel the stares burning holes in the side of your head. "That's dumb." Iris finally said, sighing. "We can only maybe pen them as is!"

"You're trying to knock off their-"

BAM!

Whipping your head around to the rear viewport, you saw the whiff of muzzle smoke from Solomon's tank float out over the battlefield… and then Hell broke loose. The shot hit the enemy tank, causing it to grind to a halt for a minute- until the front three turrets started firing. As machine-gun fire kicked up dirt around Solomon's tank, two shells slammed into it with explosive blasts. From the smoke cloud, a white flag slowly raised, and moments later you could hear the static as his radio slowly ran out of power and stopped transmitting.

"Yeah, I'm not gonna waste time trying to blast bits off." Michelle said. "Also, I'd have to go to the hull rack for where I've got the HE stowed."

Sighing, you just clacked over to the A-set. "Remind me why I'm the Captain again?" you asked idly.

"No idea." Sabah replied.

"Great, well, get us moving southwest. They're buttoned up, so they shouldn't be able to see us very well."

"Right!"

A flick back to the B-set, now. "Try and work southwest, guys. I don't think we're getting through that front plate."

"On my way." Formin said. "I'm not sure we're gonna get there fast enough, though."

"We have to try." Michelle said sternly. "I'll try and get through the woods, at least, and spread us out. Not like it's covered in turrets, right?"

"No, if it's a T-35, then it's covered in turrets." Cerdan blithely replied. "Really, that's how I used to check when I was a student back in the day."

"They had these back in your day?" Iris asked.

"Back in my day, the FTs you're in would have been my grandmother's tank. Odds are I've fought in or against anything you're liable to see."

"Right, well, we're probably going to want to hold fire until we have flank shots." You said calmly. "We both only need one shot at getting lucky, but they have a lot more shots than we do."

"Good plan." Cerdan chuckled.

Clacking, your headset switched over to the A-set.

"Think I might have banged up the running gears." Sabah said, sighing. "I got us a decent way, though, so there's that."

"Thanks." You said, sighing. "I just need to- just-"

"Impossible goals, terrible thing to kill?"

"Yeah." You said, sighing. "Yeah."

"Eh, don't worry." Sabah chuckled, turning around to pat your leg. "I think we're doing fairly well myself."

"We're down a tank and have barely scratched them."

"You're being melodramatic. Pop out and grab one of the sandwiches I put in the outer turret rack. The spicy club is mine, you can have the chicken kafta."

Cracking open the hatch at the back of the turret, you peaked out, staring at the machine gun blazing away at Solomon's downed tank until it cut off, a PONK as the turret raised it's own tiny flag. Must have gotten knocked out by a judge? Either way, you managed to get the two wrapped sandwiches as you looked around. So far, you'd spread out pretty well? Either way, all that was left to do was to wait until you got a decent shot. You hoped.

(AN: Before anyone asks, no, the enemy tank cannot see you. Yes, this is even with movement penalty. They rolled terribly.)

Can anyone translate this for me? It sounds like they're trying to say we can only pen them in, but that makes no sense in context.

Hmmm. Did Sabah decide to go half speed on her own, or was there a miscommunication somewhere? It worked out well for us, but poor communication kills and all that.

I would suggest we head to H-16-3. It shouldn't be any easier to spot us from there than from G-16-2, and it opens up the possibility of getting behind them next turn for a rear shot.
Outside of that I'm not sure what else we need to do this turn. Repair? Spot? Play Sabaton over the radio to raise morale?

Yeah, it's short for penetration. Your SA-18 guns have trouble punching through stuff- slightly more than the Hotchkiss guns, but not enough for me to make a math distinction- and judging by Solomon's shot you're not getting through that frontal armor.

the problem with moving to H-16-2 is that at their current rate of advancement going to H-16-3 instead of G-16-2 is that we would be literally right next to them. See what I wanna do is if they don't see us move to G-16-2 is I want to move to H-17-4 so We will be in their rear flank and our remaining tanks will be to their sides.

Good point. I don't like telling Michelle not to fire though, because even if we don't get spotted and taken out we may be out of line of sight, making it difficult to tell her when to fire.

How about this instead:

[X] Plan Flank Them!
-[X] Driver-Drive to tile G-16-2
-[X] Radio check to communicate
--[X] "well looks like we have one less turret to deal with now. Still we're still gonna stick with trying to get around it's sides; Michelle stay where you are and don't fire unless you have a good shot at its sides or rear."

The bolded part is the only change, but it changes from us needing to tell her when to fire to just making sure she only fires if she has a shot.

Is there a reason to do a Radio check? Everyone is in motion and appears to be sticking to the plan. What do we know that our team members can't figure out?

On the other hand there's not much else for our Commander to do. Would it be better to ask them to try tracking the enemy's main turret? I don't know if we can get a head's up in time, but a chance to try facing front armor could be useful for the group.

[X] Plan: What Damage?
-[X] Driver-Drive to tile G-16-2

Here's two plans for anyone who wants to do something with our commander's action. Keep An Eye Out lets us double check that there isn't a second tank behind this one, which could be useful if we've misidentified it. What Damage? let's us repair our tank which may increase survivability if we get bonked a lot in the upcoming firefight or want to go at half speed.

Speaking of taking damage in order to go faster, how does that work? In our first turn we tried to go full speed, took damage, but didn't make it very far. In the most recent update though, we went half speed and got an extra hex in exchange for a bit of damage. Is it based on how well we roll or something? Are we able to go an extra hex in exchange for making a Driving check, but any further and we have to pass the check or we stop moving?

What happens is the first thing I do is I determine what Speed you're moving at to get to your destination, in hexes. This determines the Drive check you need to make. If you pass the Drive check, you get to where you're going with no issues. If you fail by less than 5, you take a roll on the Minor Damage table and arrive at your destination. If you fail by more than 5, you roll on the Major Damage table and stop at the terrain whose check you failed, or failing that halfway through the move.

Followup, I need to rework those tables so it's more apparent how they work, because Team Land Whale over there screwed their first two Drive checks pretty badly.

Someone, one Drive check please.

So I'm sure that our coach is probably not as embarrassed as the other teams coach cause wow we're not as them and we're bad.

Still I wonder if so far we've made our Smol-but-Fierce coach any money?
