This blurb also provides a tantalizing clue to the nature of the Azure Ring's psychology; it has offered us fealty by gifting us power enough to buy Crimson Flare and now it will defer to us as the preeminent Ring of Power. Fitting for an equivalent Royal purchase. The idea that Let it Rest could be perceived as weakness is something of a rebuttal to the rant about Aristotelian virtue; does this mean that Azure would consider Rest to be overtly Indulgent? The difference between compassion and weakness is a rich vein for fiction throughout history. It would be a shame to have to put down a rebellion by Azure because it mistook our offer of recovery for inability to rule.

Indeed! One hopes its reservoirs of gratitude would be greater than that, though it's always unwise to impose the paradigm of humanity on the interactions of Rings.

A big thank you once again to everybody who showed up to watch and blather with us at such a weird hour! We do genuinely appreciate knowing you guys enjoy our work, seeing Rihaku's characters come to life, and just chatting with us socially-starved neets!

Great picture! It's very apparent that a ton of hard work goes into your guys' stuff!

Hunger rejected his title wholesale and Gisena is a magical princess who has eschewed many components of nobility as part of her dedication to emulating the Maiden. Can't be a Noble if you're not carrying on the family name

But you can if you're effectively immortal compared to the existing generations...

They don't seem to weigh on his conscience either way. His desire to save Azure stems greatly from the Hunger Ring, but the judgement on what is proper is also decided by the Heart Ring. It doesn't seem to think there's anything improper about setting the Azure Ring up as its vassal.

Indeed. The Azure would be far less kind to you were your situations reversed. Perhaps that doesn't count for everything, but shouldn't it count for something?

Is 5 Arete for free not commensurate? We have power to rip Ber from limb to limb, free Sublime Transfusion and Ennobling (and Augment Dominion Blood), an additional three (maybe even four picks), plus literally everything else we got from the Temple. If this isn't commensurate for you, then that's fine, but we're not in very much need for the Arete, as Darkside Bard eloquently points out.

I'd argue you are very much in need for Arete if you want to get Trinity AND All-Defeating Stance AND Ruling Ring (AND Super Juggernaut Undead Chimera AND pursue the Praxis) any time soon IRL!

Ring aside, all of you to vote to spill the soup are SICK. You need to stop and take a good hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask if this is the kind of monster you want to become!

True facts.

Condensed arguments about each vote option (excluding Soup options, which provide so thorny a dilemma that it exceeds the scope of this analysis). Includes both pro arguments from my reaction & abbreviated con arguments for each option.

#1005 Words

Avenger:
Arguments in Favor of Avenger:
  • Options that let us Not Die guarantee that Rihaku spends more wordcount on things you like, such as RANK, Gisena, Blurbs, or Stats
  • This particular option that lets us Not Die guarantees that we will get some more picks from Sten
    • These will be picks that can be made without the threat of immediate death
  • Avenger matches Hunger's established characterization; chapter 1 shows how far he will go for a chance at vengeance!
  • Saving Arete now gives us more flexibility during the build-vote for whatever picks are unlocked when (not if!) AvengerHunger kills Sten
Arguments in Opposition to Avenger:
  • Only activates ~20% of the time
    • Spends lot of Arete on something with 0 effect in majority of fights
  • Thread devolves into rules-lawyering about why Avenger should apply
  • Introduces few/no new interactions among existing or future build options (beyond amplifying Stats)
Eminence:
Arguments in Favor of Eminence:
  • Sten morally deserves as brutal a death as we can give him
    • The most Brutal Death Possible has practical benefits:
      • Gives political leverage with the Temple Remnants
      • Sates the worst impulses of the Azure Ring premptively
  • Mechanical advantages associated with Ruling Ring spending
    • Preeminence is a rare drop
  • Satisfying Narrative beat: Our ring unlocks Preeminence (Passion) at the same time as the 2nd half of Crimson Flare
Arguments in Opposition to Eminence:
  • Highest chance of Death (!)
  • Preeminence (Passion) is unlikely to proc in most situations
    • Preeminence (Passion) does not stack with our Rank boost for blood buffs even in the cases where it would proc
  • Morality of gruesome death in this case is debatable
    • MANY fights in the future will be against opponents who probably don't deserve such a gruesome end
  • Some undesirable redundancy between Hateful Might & Cut Through
Blade:
Arguments in Favor of Blade:
  • Rank is very good for our Crimson Flare build
    • We're about to have a lot more options in combat
    • All of them benefit from Rank
  • Blurb makes specific moral argument to Ring that I like because it appeals to a lot of different value systems
  • Satisfying narrative beat where Hunger gets character growth by helping the Azure Ring to move on from trauma
Arguments in Opposition to Blade:
  • Hero Defeating Stance replaces Guile Defeating Stance and """wAsTeS""" previous Arete expenditure :V
    • Builds to wrong 25-cost Defeating Stance
    • Too much Sword upgrades lately
  • Less flashy purchases; getting an Echo feels suboptimal compared to other options offered
Let It Rest
Arguments in Favor of Let It Rest:
  • A "thankful" Azure Ring is an appealing Mystery Box
  • Arguably satisfies the pursuit of a great many different virtues
    • At least from a human point of view
  • Important characterization for Hunger going forward
  • feels nice to be the good guy
Arguments in Opposition to Let It Rest:
  • Leaves a huge amount of power on the table
    • Have people forgotten about the Apocryphal curse?
    • Do people not compare about long-term progression?
  • Azure Ring might see this as Weakness & plot against us
  • Intended recipient, Gisena, is unlikely to need maximum Hatefulness mitigation
    • especially at the cost of 5 (!) Arete
  • Hunger's characterization so far has been fair but not indulgent
    • There is no reason to treat the Ring as a convalescent when it is undamaged
    • Rings don't have human psychology, so "trauma" isn't the right way to think about recovery
  • Talk about "gratitude" imposes human intentions & values onto the Azure Ring which is a risk
Ruler & Vassal:
Arguments in Favor of Ruler & Vassal:
  • Strikes a balance between power-boost and compassion
    • Balance allows for Royal Purchase
    • 7-Arete for free!!!
  • Excess of sentiment might qualify as overindulgence (not virtue)
    • Azure Ring does not have human psychology & could interpret gentle handling as weakness
  • Dynamic of strife between Rings has persisted for aeons: maybe there's a good reason we have not heard of Rings cooperating before
    • Benefit of acting conventionally (optimally?) in the context of Rings
Arguments in Opposition to Ruler & Vassal:
  • Azure Ring should rest after its trauma
    • We have out-scaled the Apocryphal Curse for now
  • Does not allow for Synchronized boost of 7-cost + 3-cost discount from Subordination
    • So much power left behind
  • Gisena is unlikely to need hatefulness mitigation
Subordination:
Arguments in Favor of Subordination:
  • Ten (10) Arete!
    • That's more than either omake storm!
    • Please think carefully before voting against that much effort from our talented Artists!
  • Resisting Mental Contamination relies on stats & characteristics that Gisena has maximized
    • She's in the best position to ignore hatefulness
    • Significant immediate power boost + rapid advancementmight be enough to unlock Findross research results
      • or the Edeldross -> Findross research path
  • Benefits of previous 7-Arete options have been very impressive
    • Reward from the Azure Ring will probably be even better
    • Azure Ring is likely to patch the "utility" hole in our build imo
  • This 7-Arete Option will be aligned with the Evening Sky 25-Cost Purchase
    • Might be aligned with other Evening Sky purchases too
  • Narrative foreshadowing for long-anticipated purchase of Ruling Ring
    • Practice controlling other Rings is likely to help with Contest of Primacy
    • Thorough Subordination could discourage betrayal by Azure during contest
Arguments in Opposition to Subordination:
  • Mean to Azure Ring
  • Puts Hunger on Slippery Slope of +Heartless choices
  • We have already out-scaled the Apocryphal Curse
  • High hatefulness could risk mental contamination for Gisena
Miscellaneous:
Comments:
  • Relationships have components that aren't well-described by +s.
    • We should make sure Letrizia is happy (or at least competent) in the party role she's growing towards
  • Reactions & Arguments seem to have opposing incentives w/r/t Arete generation
    • Arguments suffer when drawn out to inflate their word-count the way reactions sometimes are
  • This update asks voters to trade risk in fight with Sten for long-term benefit (?) of reduced of hatefulness
    • without any knowledge of effects from hatefulness
  • There might be possible positive effects of very High hatefulness
    • (benefits of very low hatefulness are obvious)

Turns out I'm a Verschlengorge partisan. Voting Ruler & Vassal instead of Subordination to try to defeat let it rest. We had an agreement: We rescue it, and it works for us, dammit.

In through the nose.

Out through the mouth.

Let the energy found within breathing expand. Guide the energy into your core. Gather, again and again. Expand, over and over. Grasp the blossoming strength within and, in one burst, manifest power into reality. Their teacher loved repeating the notion. That, when they heard it enough times, they'll learn it just like that.

He had listened, of course. Ended up vomiting one too many times for his efforts. But even then, he would be nothing else if he wasn't headstrong. So he continued, until his innards stopped hurting. Continued until he could go from his regular form to the next, and then the one after that. It was something that had allowed him to keep up with the rest of the class. What was a fireball if it couldn't burn his fur? What was an icicle if he could just shatter it?

Still. It was a difficult comparison to parse with one of his arms having been ripped off.

He had probably already gone to shock. Some kind of disassociation with reality. Flexing anything below his shoulder returned no response. Not the comforting feel of his power. Nor the confidence of being able to protect his friends. Ah well. They really shouldn't have gone on ahead to try playing heroes. Really shouldn't have thought that sneaking away to fight some Rotspawns was a great idea.

Jun got half his body bitten off. Noki got dashed against a rock. Got themselves killed. But he really had to give it to them. Went out like heroes. Half the stupid gorilla's face got torn up thanks to Jun exploding, with the fires burning parts of its throat too. Noki managed to petrify its hands with his blood. Thing's probably spreading in its body cause of the open wounds. Rock for veins? Not a fun thing to imagine.

"Don't even think about it Gatou. I'll never forgive you if you die."

Gatou, the tiger-porcupine, turned to eye his classmate. He never did get why she had to wear such frilly clothes. Something about combat skirts? And then complaining about modesty? Girls were insane. And scary. But definitely insane. What was she talking about anyway?

"Oh, don't give me that look Gatou. You're the leader, aren't you? The least you could do is not dive face first every chance you got!"

Ah. The princess was worried about him. Snooty as she was, she always did try her hardest too. Never afraid to get her hands dirty and rub elbows with the 'plebeians'. He really wanted to say a lot of things. Tell her that she didn't have to worry. That, sure, he might have lost an arm but at least it kept her alive. But, talking was hard in this form. Even thinking got harder.

"You. Strong. Cast. Good."

Still, he had to try. Now if only it didn't make him sound like an uneducated imbecile. He might be thankful for his Element, but Elixir-damned why was it so hard to talk! But at least it made the princess shut up. He always did love seeing the tomato face thing she did. And, for someone who called their Element as ArcticEdifice, she always did get heated up really fast!

A guttural roar rang across the plateau that Gatou, with his enhanced hearing, wailed in turn. Whatever reprieve left had been used up, it seemed. The armoured gorilla beast struck the ground with its half petrified arm. It didn't even cry out as the limb was shattered into debris. The remaining fist thumped against its chest, challenge issued against the bags of meat that dared. A challenge that Gatou accepted, his feet dragging him forward.

"I can manufacture only three more spells, Gatou. Seeing as you've got that look in your eye..." ArticEdifice sighed, even as Gatou just laughed. "Come back to m...to us, okay? You still owe me dinner!" The tiger-porcupine offered her a thumbs up before lowering himself into a stance.

Letrizia von Artriez, Hero of the Empire omake 985 words for the arete pile
Letrizia von Artriez, Hero of the Empire

"The early life of Letrizia von Artriez, Hero of the Empire is not well known. She was born in 4395 AF as the only daughter to duke von Artriez. Due to a weird circumstance of fate her father was not able to pilot the Armament Verschlengorge. This in hindsight should have clued some of the people in the court that something was amiss. Duke Artriez Senior was a brilliant man and tactician and possessed powerful magic on his own. But after he fell ill he mysteriously lost the ability to pilot the Armament and also the ability to practice magic. Many of the researchers that have dedicated their life to complete the biography of Letrizia von Artriez think that her father gifted his daughter with all of his magic and life force.

Letrizia was a bright and sharp child (which in hindsight shows why her legendary magic SharpBright chose her) and accepted the Duty with grace befitting a noble of house Artriez.

During the regular maintenance of Verschlengorge in year 4414 FB Letrizia was ambushed by multiple Armaments and was sent to the Voyaging Realm with an extremely enfeebled Verschlengorge. If historians and republic spies were more observant, they would have noticed that there is no way that an Armament that was being repaired could repel multiple of his brethren who were in peak condition. The only possible explanation was that Letrizia herself had to intervene and reveal her abilities.

Still, a visit to the Voyaging Realm with a weakened Armament and with no support is almost a guaranteed death. But instead of death Letrizia thrived. Two months later she emerged with the Armament (miraculously healed) and multiple legendary feats. She have managed to secure the service of Aeira Shadowcord (known to the public as Her Divine Shadow) from an Imperial separatist group that have escaped in the Voyaging Realm. She has also destroyed a vile place called the Temple of the False Moon that have trapped millions of people in its mental trap. Letrizia did all of this without expecting reward, as befitting of a noble who understands the most holy of principles "noblesse oblige".

After the escape from the Voyaging Realm Letrizia began her rapid progression in the military hierarchy of the Empire. She had multiple military and diplomatic victories, an impressive feat for someone so young.

There were many that doubted the young prodigy but those people were left speechless during the Armament Symposium of 4415 FB. During the exhibition all of the imperial Armaments bowed down to Letrizia and called her Praehihr, which is something that is considered a Foremost Royalty. All doubts about the ability of Letrizia von Artriez, Hero of the Empire were laid to rest. An Armament is power incarnate and they bow only to superior.

We tried talking to Letrizia von Artriez after this moment but we were stopped by her bodyguards. The brooding Lord Hunger, whose blade is so sharp that it could cut anything, even Armaments. And Lady Gisena Allaria who is one of the brightest scientist and diplomats that House Artriez employ. During the historical moment when the Armaments bowed Letrizia remained stoic but not her bodyguards. A small smirk was exchanged between the two of them, as if finally happy that their master has been acknowledged.

I will propose an interesting theory, that Lord Hunger (also called Super Juggernaut Undead Chimera) and lady Allaria are not actually real people. They are but an avatar manifestation of the two forces of SharpBright – the magic of Letrizia von Artriez.

Lord Hunger has a blade that is impossibly sharp that can Cut Through anything. He wears a crimson ring on his right hand and represents the pinnacle Might. He does not take orders from anyone but Letrizia and only gets along with her and Lady Gisena Allaria.

Lady Allaria is extremely intelligent, bright and beautiful. She wears an azure ring on her left hand similar in design to Lord Hunger`s ring. She represent the pinnacle of Bright.

Letrizia von Artriez was forced to grow too fast and was probably lonely during her stay in the Voyaging Realm. By a supreme manifestation of power she summoned the avatars of her power to help and guide her and they happily obliged.

I know this is a theory that some consider heretical but I have nothing but the uttermost respect for Letr…"

The TV display was smashed by a thrown lamp. Letrizia was just pointing at the screen but her mouth, despite moving, never uttered a sound.

Finally Letrizia managed to compose herself and turned to the other two occupants of the room – Hunger and Gisena

"EXPAIN THIS YOU FUCKING SHITHEADS."

"Calm down Lea, we were just doing a prank on you. A positive one – now everybody knows you are an impossibly powerful mage user and tactician. Nobody will mess with you"

"How did you manage to convince the Armaments to bow down"

Gisena pointed at Hunger who was trying to catch a fish from the fishing tank using a pencil and a thread.

"Hun convinced the other giant robots to bow down. Something "Accursed Implement" something"

Letrizia massaged her temples and asked the most important question

"Why did you do this prank?"

"Remember the Temple? When we returned as conquerors we were hungry and you have spilt the soup. I went to bed on an empty stomach and I hate that"

"Gah, guk, hurgh" Letrizia tried to say something but all that came out was a random collection of sounds.

Gisena moved her hand in front of Letrizia`s face but there was no reaction. The sorceress just shrugged and called to Hunger

"Hun, let`s go spread rumors that Letrizia is a reborn member of the Foremost civilization and that is why the Armaments obey her."

"Sounds good to me. That will teach her not to spill fish soup"

Day of independence reaction 1100 words for the Arete gods

Day of Independence

The Marshal slain, Hunger pressed his blade against the dull blue surface of the Inner Ring itself. The substance of the barrier was heavy but ductile, like hyperdense rubber, and resisted the force of his cut, even regrowing parts sheared away. With one leg he anchored himself against the dome and began to saw away in earnest, the blue of his blade-edge and the power of Ruin slowly eroding its resistance.

The day of independence at last. Show those Ring nerds that USA Hunger will never bow down to those that abuse their power.

So after bleeding out the cool old grandpa Marshall, Hunger finds out that he does not idea how to enter the Inner Temple. But if there is a Will, there is a way. As Hunger`s old sensei said – "If cutting does not work you are not using enough".

In the end a barrier is no match for Cut Through. Still, I am surprised it was relatively easy. If we actually think about it, the Inner City is a portable dimension that is bigger on the inside (or smaller on the outside like some degenerates like to say). Damn, SORD praxis is the shit.

Where the unveiled Inner Ring met the outside world, a howling torrent of air rushed free, heat and fury as to hurl a normal man from the opening entirely.

With his superhuman constitution Hunger was barely bothered. It did not appear to be a specific defense mechanism, merely the property of some disequilibrium between the Inner and Middle Rings.

Smells like victory. Hunger thinks there is some disequilibrium (I admit this is the first time I see that specific word (Rihaku quests – where you learn and rage produce salt at the same time) but in reality this is a little gift from Accretion.

The Hero enters the final barrier and while the people are in awe from the size of that achievement we get some convenient winds to blow our hair behind us. Our brooding but passionate gaze sweeps the new challenge.

This is what Larrissa saw and poor Wyvernford had to go and bring the mop to clean up the mess after his master.

At last a man-sized passage was carved open, and he quickly leapt through, the wound in the barrier sealing shut behind him. Inside it was day, the sky within nearly the opposite of the star-shrouded night he had walked in under. Hunger blinked away the glare of their false sun and took in his surroundings. This was a vast and orderly space, countless rows of precision-crafted towers marching to the horizon, their walls inset with runes, interiors aglow with faint blue light. Shops and residences, offices and farms, all were contained within the neatly-arranged structure of this city-spanning grid.

Yuck. Inner Temple is modeled after idyllic suburbs, kill it with fire. The fucking nerds have been playing too much "Inner Temples:Skylines" and everything lacks soul.

He took off, moving at a pace invisible to the human eye, headed directly for the Temple's center. The power of his Ring had absorbed some measure of the old marshal's fearsome grit, amplifying the force of Hunger's presence alongside the power of his form. The bow-wave of his commands left the common citizens thunderstruck, helpless but to answer his questions despite the obvious intent.

Not shown is how Hunger casually scams everyone he meets. Just pretend you forgot your wallet and take everything you want. Superhuman charisma makes everything easy. Women want to be with him and men want to be him.

It became clear that the Immortals maintained at least a half-strength guard of the "Treasure" at all times. If they were each substantially above the Marshal he'd slain, then a direct assault would be unfeasible. However, Inner Ring society as a whole was in disarray following the Call's cessation - star-forges across the Temple had to be re-calibrated by a small army of engineers, while investigators dashed frantically about, futily attempting to ascertain the cause behind their "Treasure's" drastic shift in attitude. As for the military forces the Inner Temple, who were divided unequally among the Noble Houses, many were halfway to each other's throats among the chaos and uncertainty. It was every House for itself until the dust settled, but Hunger's arrival presaged a storm.

Pocket dimensions, pocket universes, alternate universes. You name it, the plan is generally the same. The nobles are at each other throats after binge watching too much "Game of Thrones" episodes last night. Meanwhile the staff that actually supports the order is overworked.

He moved to harvest what power he could from worthy opponents before he challenged the Immortals. Perhaps along the way he would find some allies of opportunity by exploiting the fault lines in their society; surely there were factions disgruntled by the absolute rule of the current leadership?

Ideally he could defeat the Immortals in detail while half were still scattered, then bait the Ring's remaining guardians into splitting their forces before he executed the decisive strike. Gisena's presence would be critical in suppressing the presumably mighty Soul Evocations of the Immortals themselves, so he had several hours still to ply his deadly trade.

The Houses of the Nobility were obvious to the naked eye, each an artistic masterpiece, frequently of towering scale, their grandeur unbound by the strict orderly lines that contained the common folk. Opulent gardens, personal lakes, or even snow-dusted cliffs surrounded their sprawling estates, within which sheltered mighty families with Marshals and High Marshals in their collective employ. Presented with such obvious targets, Hunger could not help but feast. Before he attacked he offered his terms: submit to his dominion and accept the Imprisoned Ring's departure, or be destroyed.

So the noble houses like to compete with each other by measuring their dick rank marshalls height of the mansion. Well, it is not like people with a lot of money don`t do these stuffs (for reference please see Dubai).

To his surprise, a few marginalized Houses - including one of substantial influence - actually agreed to raise the banner of rebellion alongside him. The others he put to the sword; surrendering civilians spared and remanded to the custody of his allies. Things went swimmingly, Hunger himself constantly one step ahead of the Inner Temple's Marshals; he reaped a healthy bounty from House security forces and counter-ambushed the Marshals when he was finished. Unfortunately the Immortals had some swifter form of communication and withdrew quickly from the outlying estates, concentrated within the Innermost Temple where they could not be picked off piecemeal.

Larissa Alynne was by far the most influential of the nobles that now sheltered under his banner; her House was primarily motivated by their hatred of the current ruling faction, but she herself had taken to the cause with nearly unseemly valor.

Larissa is a lonely leader of a noble house that read too much trashy romance novels in her youth. She now sees Hunger as a dashing hero who will rock her body world and make her happy. I like to imagine Wyvernford as an older butler/Marshall that takes care of his master and is just constantly in despair from the stupidity/naiveté of Larissa.

Among mortals she might have been considered beautiful, with rich black locks framing a heart-shaped face, but even her striking eyes of emerald green seemed utterly pedestrian compared to Gisena's own. Longtime exposure to the Sorceress' superhuman beauty had utterly inured him against the mundane.

Undeterred, Larissa pressed against him as they surveyed a map of the situation, her eyes wide and doting.

Ganbare Larissa, after Gisena exposure, Hunger sees you as merely pretty. Or worse, a friend.

Hunger: Thank you Larissa. I will always remember you…

Larissa: *gasp*

Hunger: as a friend.

Larissa takes critical damage and starts crying while Wyvernford is offering her tissue with the look of a man that desperately needs a drink.

Alternate take is to imagine Larissa as blatantly offering her body to Hunger while he has harem protagonist level of denseness.

Larissa: This is the map of the Inner Temple with its territories. Conquer them and you will win, and after that you can conquer my territory, if you know what I mean

Hunger: You have territories somewhere else?

Larissa: …take the Temple and then take me on this table.

Hunger: I don`t think the table is suitable for supporting more than one person

Hunger grimaced. This particular noblewoman had been won over by his superhuman presence; her assistance was invaluable, but her advances unfortunate. It gave him no pleasure to take advantage of an unrequited infatuation for logistical aid, especially when he'd lectured Letrizia for similar acts in the Sovereignty. Still, the lives of over nine million relative innocents were on the line. He knew well that the the Imprisoned Ring cared not one whit for the welfare of its torturers, but Hunger the man could hardly allow those merely born into this society to die preventable deaths.

Hunger: I want to save millions from death so I will endure this torture.

Letrizia: What torture?

Hunger: The advances of beautiful noble lady who is hopeless infatuated with me. I am such a hero for enduring this torture.

(self plagiarization is allowed in the pursuit of Arete)

"When I remove the Ring, the Dimensional Rift that contains the Inner Temple will destabilize," he said gruffly, detaching his arm from Larissa's grasp. "Before that happens, your forces need to evacuate as many of the civilians as is practical. We have a few hours still before my allies get here. That should be more than enough time for your mightier Soul Evokers to open the way. Organize a steady but efficient evacuation leveraging the superhuman abilities of your troops, and we should be able to extract the vast majority of non-combatants before hostilities begin."

"Of course, dear, it's well within the power of my House," Larissa said, batting her eyelashes at him. "But I'm more concerned for your personal safety! Those tedious Immortals could gang up on you while my personal Marshals are deployed afield."

Larissa *Waggles eyebrows*: "We have a few hours, let me show you around the house, my bedroom particularly"

Damn, Larissa is thirsty as fuck. Ganbare Larissa-chan, you were merely 6/10 compared to Gisena.

Batting eyelashes, hanging on Hunger`s arm, trying to fake some care and compassion. This would probably work on the neets in the Inner Temple but this is just next level romance honey.

Gisena fought and bled for him, while you will send your men to do that. Hunger just does not see you as a partner.

"Unlikely," he shook his head. "They don't have a good grasp of my capabilities and overall power, knowing only that I've slain every foe presented so far. If they move out in force, it's possible I could evade their net and strike at the Ring directly. Thus they must maintain the majority of their strength at the Ring itself. From what you've told me, many of the Immortals dislike one another. None will be eager to volunteer for an expeditionary force against an enemy of unknown strength - not while their rivals stay behind in relative safety.."

"Hm..." Larissa pursed her lips. "You truly are a masterful strategist, my lord. Now more than ever I believe our victory is inevitable! If you'd like to draw out a fraction of their forces, however, I have a suggestion. You'd do well to strike at what they care most."

Flattery will get you everywhere, but Hunger`s bedroom is under the stars on a rocky patch of earth. Larissa makes her fatal mistake. She suggest a reasonable but relatively evil deed, to make the war easier on her Hunger boytoy.

She laid a ruby-painted fingernail against one spot on the map. "House Verachen. Home to the extended families of two Immortals. There's not enough space in the Innermost Temple for their clans to accompany them. We could seize their precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren and hold them hostage to provoke a response."

You had some chance Larissa, but now I consider you relatively okayish attractive villain. You have to be Gisena EFB level of attractiveness before you could suggest such vile things. Do not worry though, there will always be enough simps white knights to protect your honor. You could always accuse Hunger and cancel him. Not even the Accursed could save him from a twitter mob.

He closed his eyes. On the one hand, emotional anguish of this magnitude was trivial compared to the aeons-long hollowing that the Imprisoned Ring had been subjected to. Were it absolutely necessary, perhaps he might consider a bluff in that vein, but to actually carry out such a sentence was abhorrent. The Tyrant at times had forced him into such compromises, but the power of Progression had allowed him to rise above measures like that.

There were those who said that power corrupted. They were not wrong, but the obverse face of that saying simply went unobserved: sufficient power, impunity, could also prevent corruption. Strength enough not to rely on unsavory means was the freedom to do 'that which feels right' instead of always 'that which was optimal.'

Miss me with that evil shit. Hunger recalls the lessons of uncle sensei Ben Neb about power and abolishes any hope of higher % chance.

"That won't be necessary," he finally replied. "We'll take the Inner Ring in its entirely and encircle them conventionally. If they try to break out, the forces guarding the Ring will be depleted. Continue the evacuation. Once my companions arrive, we'll mount a direct assault with the entirety of your forces as well as all our allied Houses."

"As you wish, my lord," Larissa demurred, lowering her eyes. "Your heart is truly too noble for such tactics. I feel embarrassed even to have suggested them; it was a slight against your power. Forgive me my overzealous support. I wish only for you to prevail, regardless of the cost!"

Yeah, I am sure you were overzealous and not clearing some old debts. Noble houses have books with thousand pages that just detail how somebody`s cousin from another family once used a medium size spoon instead of small one to stir the tea during Soul Evocation awakening ceremony and this insult will never be resolved. The descendants must constantly battle to erase the stain of this dishonor.

Hunger cleared his throat. "Fine. Keep in mind that I won't countenance such means going forward. How goes the diplomatic front? Have our overtures to the reluctant Houses landed at all?"

"Very much so, my lord!" Larissa said happily. "You needn't worry, I'll keep those foul harridans and dirty old men far from your august presence. After witnessing your power, more and more are beginning to fall in line. They understand that times are changing and that the nobility must change with them. At this point only the Core Houses are still recalcitrant. We're unlikely break them until the Immortals fall. Worry not, our allied forces will be more than sufficient the evacuate the great majority of the Inner Ring before sundown - or sunrise, I suppose, in the world Outside. I'm ever so excited to witness it with you!"

Diplomatic attempts after our infiltration attempts so far have been laughable. Well no one will accuse Hunger of not being optimistic.

"Survival is one matter. But those who would accompany me must earn their place."

"Oh, of course! House Alynne will do its utmost to be deserving of that honor!"

"Your place is earned in my bedroom Lord Hunger. I will do my utmost"

"What"

"Sorry, just talking to myself"

"You are drooling and the floor is wet for some reason"

[ ] Scorched Earth - The Ultimate Emanation of a High Sorceress represents a power of Nullity far beyond even what Gisena demonstrated against the Groundskeeper. By shrouding himself in a comprehensive shell of Edeldross, Hunger can retain the majority of his powers in the wake of such an attack, though the Evening Sky will likely be fully depleted as well. Still, his enemies will likely be in no state to resist him for a few crucial instants, allowing him to cut down a substantial fraction of their number while they are relegated to mortality. Whether it will be enough to rescue the Ring is another matter. [+1 Arete]

*A highly effective strategy; all you need to do is get Gisena safely into position while Hunger is shielded, Aeira can very much assist with the former.

*There may be Immortals with non-supernatural speed and strength, though it seems unlikely that such would be remotely capable of matching Hunger's magical augmentations.

*Of greater concern is those Immortals who might possess some level of defense against the Nullity itself, though they will likely experience at least a partial severing of their capabilities given Gisena's new power.

*Knocks Gisena unconscious and weakens her for several days following. Could be risky in the medium-term with the Apocryphal Curse spinning up again.

*Accelerates the rate of dimensional collapse. May further weaken the Imprisoned Ring, setting back the potential benefits it can grant its Ringbearer.

I think I speak for everyone when I say this. FUCK that temple. We have been here for nearly a month and we always dance on the edge of death. This DLC sucks ass, lets end it and go do some gardening.

Efficient and get us +1 Arete. What is there not to like?

[ ] Full Frontal - A conventional frontal attack with Hunger, Gisena, and the allied forces. A challenging fight to be certain, though a clean victory here means an uncomplicated aftermath with a liberated Ring. Hunger will focus their combined efforts on the weakest Immortal first and try to slay his way up the ladder, while allied forces attempt to distract the Immortals and prevent them from bringing their combined might to bear against Hunger himself. Given that they are encircled and pinned to the Ring's location, this is more practical than it would usually be; even a Marshal can seize a wholly unguarded Ring. [+1 pick]

*A decently effective strategy, though with lower win% than Scorched Earth

*Even if defeated, death is not always the outcome. Retreat is possible given your control of the territory.

*Face your enemies head-on and overcome them with the sheer might of your Cut and the broken power of Nullity.

*If successful, prepares you well for the Apocryphal Curse.

Full frontal assault. Larrissa approves of this the mostr

Gisena: Why are you naked?

Hunger: To prey on their fear, to move like an animal, to feel the kill! To flex my abs and show them off! Do you think it is too much?

Larissa (who is bleeding from the nose but smiling): NO!

[ ] A Thousand Cuts - A Ring of Power is nigh-indestructible. All the infrastructure around it, and its guardians themselves - not so. Bleed them by darting into range, hurling a full-strength blade wind into the Innermost Temple, then swiftly darting out of range. From your intelligence reports, the number of Immortals capable of countering this strategy can be numbered on the fingers of a single hand, whereas you can attack from any angle. Slowly whittle down their fortifications while consolidating power in the meantime. You'll have plenty of downtime to work on developing additional psuedo-Graces to increase your power, and if they actually sally then their forces will be divided and can be defeated piecemeal. [-2 Arete]

*Very high native chance of success, but...

*Very slow. May verge into Apocryphal Curse reactivation territory, which can complicate matters.

*Arete penalty for taking unnecessarily long to rescue the Imprisoned Ring

*May get the chance to develop a psuedo-Grace or work on Praxis in downtime.

*Slow pace means all civilians can be evacuated without fuss, though food supplies and general discontent may become an issue.

*Possibility of forcing the enemies to surrender, allowing for a diplomatic solution.

Miss me with that shitty Apocryphal proc. The minus two Arete is just the shit icing on this shit cake. Hard pass.

Damn, power of Shadowcord is truly something else..
Her divine shadow Aeira is always behind Letrizia. Always

So I went to bed early last night. I woke up, took a shower, and I'm feeling more clearheaded then I felt yesterday. Thinking about it... I don't want to keep arguing again today, I would rather be doing other things while I have some mental clarity instead of being sleep deprived from arguing. I do not want to invest more omake power than I have in this argument(6917 words) and being the reckless one for once is... kind of exhausting.

@Hirorubie, @Sara, @Duquette7, I renounce the benefit of consolidation, vote as you wish

@formalAI, @Strange9, Duquette, call on me as you wish, I will not veto.

Arete-spending votes are weighted heavily in favor of Arete creators anyway, so it's not that big of a deal. Though I might have been speaking differently if SOUP wasn't so important...
