I think Silver of Evening is somewhat being overlooked due to the convenience of Crimson Flare, but 1 pick is not a very onerous requirement and the power it offers is very synergistic with your build.

The problem I have with Silver is that compared to the other EFB that makes us the Maiden equivalent, this one which increases the power of the precursor Element to Findross seems much, much weaker.

Forgotten not, the debt of Time
So the Azure Ring is also a Ring of Time. Not too surprising given the stuff we've seen when entering the Temple, but fighting such effects is going to be annoying.

The poetry is kind of worrisome though. The Crimson Flare's effects seem to be very well-suited for subverting the Moon Civ, yet it speaks of 'rapine and sack' and 'debts unpaid'. Is the Azure Ring going to want revenge? Hadn't thought about it before, but I suppose it might be sentient enough to desire such things.

As for opponents, I'm in favor of picking Avecarn right now. We're quite disadvantaged against Gondar atm, though I suppose if we manage to buy Silver of Evening before the encounter that could change. But that would mean giving up on the other Mantle EFBs for the foreseeable future, and both Eclipse and Pillars are pretty delicious.

Yet choosing Crimson Flare would do the same for Ruling Ring... then again, we're too scared to pick Ruling Ring anytime soon, so it isn't as great a sacrifice, and the Flare is also a 0-pick, which means we could flash-buy it with no further complications. Not only would it improve our chances against Avecarn significantly, it's also a very heavy diplomatic chip.

So

[X] High Marshall Avecarn
[X] The Ring of Power: Crimson Flare

One final question for the night... @Rihaku: Does Crimson Flare have the power to heal our liver? The vast increase in rank when applying Blood effects seems like it might be sufficient to overcome the cursed wound that it currently cannot.

The reprisal of the Azure Ring is that the Crimson is riding to its rescue, sword cleaving the way through its jailors, with a great Hunger.

We'll literally be murdering their civilization by ripping out the heart upon which the rest of it is built once we reclaim it.

Don't forget that it refers to Hunger-the-human as a steed to ride, a means of conveyance for the Crimson Ring! It's a wholesome poem, no concerning implications at all.

Silver offers massive immediate power, whereas Total Eclipse offers none! Total Eclipse can allow you to eventually reach and surpass the example of the Maiden, but that's only potential, not power today!

Well, Hunger is the Ring and the Man, so that could consider Versh the steed just as easily (heck, we actually do ride on him). Rihaku's poems are like Harry Potter prophesies; they're vague enough that you can put a lot of interpretation into them if you squint.

The point is that Crimson's abilities can replace whatever Azure Ring offers them once we rescue it (Ennoblement etc), yet it still speaks as if we're going to destroy them.

Yeah, I just tried ignoring that part. >.<

Azure's brethren faces turned.
when all its kind had turned their backs

Much has been said about the poem, of it's lilting verse, these draw the eye.

We now have confirmation that there are multiple Rings in play, and that the contest involves them all.
The Azure Ring will submit to the Crimson in the next contest of primacy.
Flare places the Azure ring in debt, but that is but one among many, and one without a bearer at that. Ruling Ring is still terribly dangerous even with Flare.

Also would appreciate a magical system!

[ ] Soteriological Conqueror - You're not the only game in town, and you're about to find out why.

There is a... body, hidden deep within the doctrines of each religion. Its shape is unfathomably immense, its heart the size of universes. There is a being out there, somewhere in the vast stretches of parts unknown that is coming. Its name is Deliverance, and it is Salvation. You've done good work, immanentizing the teleological destiny of your first faith. Now, it is time for you to do more. Finish the job.

*Gain power from each religion given Salvation. The scope, versatility, and nature of the power depends on the amount of people saved, the religion in question, and the way you accomplish this deed. For example, enlightening an entire faith and bringing everyone to Nirvana will grant you the power of supreme karmic luck and an irrepressible radiance of charisma and compassion, while reaching into the Samsara and obliterating the cycle of reincarnation will grant you a special title and a total inviolability of the soul and ego. However, it is important to note that you yourself cannot be part of this Salvation, as you have stepped outside the bounds of reality and are as such not subject to the destinies you ferry.
*These effects are normally esoteric in nature, and stem from neither magic nor force of will nor physical means. As such, they are tremendously reliable, immune to all nullification and battleground maluses.
*Picking this system starts another build vote, where you decide upon the nature of the first religion you saved.
*With each religion saved, you become... different. Your pace lightens and your thoughts quicken, and you become detached from mortal concerns. Magical effects warp and nullify before you, and supernatural beings revert to mundanity. What is going on?
*When you finish your duty, the being awakens. This is unquestionably the best ending, rearraying causality and fate to achieve maximum utility respectful of the rights of each sentient individual, distributed evenly across the universes. There will be no more suffering, no more hatred, no more war. There is only peace, and the union of an infinity of souls singing the song of peace and maximum utility.
*You can never be saved.

The vote for who to meet is surprisingly close. I'm fine with anything that doesn't cost Arete winning, now that my fearmongering about the Patreon conspiracy has been abated by the new power EFBs. Saving Arete is good again folks. Gotta resist temptation! We already have a new party member, no need to be degenerate and go for a bunch at once. Just let things settle a bit and see how they shake out, yes?

Maybe it's a metaphorical destruction, did you ever think about that? :p

Ring is in heavy lead.

Well, I must say that I'll be mostly okay with anything that is not Silver, although I'd prefer to shoot for picking whatever EFB we choose immediately, rather than delaying things with with Selune. Although there are some advantages even to that.

This vote is a pleasant surprise.

'Debt unpaid shall not abide' is why it bows in the next contest; it's paying its debt by deferring to the crimson instead of competing for supremacy amongst all its brethren like would be normal.

[X] High Marshall Avecarn
[X] Evening Sky: Silver of Evening

Doom of the phoneposter proc for me.

I gave reasons that i think Gondar is too dangerous. I will be happy with either Arete Investment.

I'm curious about the relative weight of Arete generating activities. I argued really hard to get Magnitude over control; would my time have been better spent writing Reactions?

Yeah I am willing to abandon Selene if someone has an good plan on how to convince the other two to let us in. If we can't convince them of that, we will be forced to snap buy Magic and Hero defeating stance despite the fact that we have better alternatives like The King Stands Alone. EFB will also slip beyond our grasp...

So, I am voting for Selene since 4 arete are an small price to pay for everything she potentially brings us, which includes safety and lore and thus an chance to get enough Arete to buy Crimson Flair

This reminds me of Hunger's musings back when he realized the truth of the Call after getting Chief Dominion, saying that a contest of primacy was one thing, but a Ring would not accept seeing another suffer like that. Or something to that effect. Seems like not everyone is as honorable as Hunger...

Ah, thanks. That alleviates my concerns... a little bit? There's still the rest of the poem, but eh, we'll get to it later on.
