Yeah, the Crimson Ring is just such a huge boost to Rank. Increase to 5, and +2 Rank for purposes of the Chief Dominion. We been lagging behind in Rank a bit? Well, worry no more with this!
a single Myrmidon deployed across Dimensional Gate can, if unchecked, overwhelm rival ontologies within days, as the self-replicating lattice devours and assimilates all free conceptual space. Fragile in the moment of conception, underwhelming in its first hours, but given a surfeit of time and resources it quickly builds into an unstoppable tide.

More difficult is the struggle to extract useful utility effects via the creation of dead-end evolutionary trees, forestalling and containing the rampant proflieration of Lace in service of an unintended purpose. Many such efforts result in the unintentional annihilation of entire categorical domains, yet the work proceeds apace. Such is the price of power.
I love the idea of a magic system that revolves around assimilating free conceptual space and escalating rapidly
This kind of reminds me of the watery creep from Creeper World 3.

Man, I'd be much more gung-ho about Gondar if Inheritor (Vanreir) had won. What an interesting scene that'd make, the ranger tracking down his friend's murderer only to learn that his soul lives on in our clutches. Killing Hunger would consign him to effective oblivion, presenting a dilemma. Instead, he's just fanatically determined to kill us. At least it's a familiar form of challenge. Perhaps the Inners, deprived of their two strongest Outriders, will be doubly eager to recruit replacements? Or maybe this'll torch our diplomatic bridges with the Temple for good, but either way we'll get picks out of it.

With a Rank advantage of only 0.2, Gondar's likely a less difficult fight for Hunger than the Prime Rotspawn. The danger's concentrated in the opening round, if he strikes from ambush while we're unawares, but Chief Domain gives us bloodsight to complement Gisena's sense for magical energies. Shadowcord's aural magic may also provide sensory utility. Not sure how useful her cloaking is versus his tracking, but Gondar's inferior to Hunger & Gisena in social combat. If Shadowcord can amplify our voices, we can initiate social combat, maybe throw him off his game. He knows his keepers would want him to hear us out, if there's a chance of defection.

But we'll likely have to fight him, which entails tactics. Priority should be given to deflecting poisoned arrows with Edeldross or the Forebear's Blade. We should have three layers of ablative armor: Edeldross shields, blade-wind conjurations buzzing around us, and finally the Evening Sky. One of Edeldross' themes is restoration; given its relation to findross we should see if buffing Gisena can replenish her reserve, allowing freer use of her Ultimate. He's a masterful ranger, we should assume access to stealth, so we'll need ways to smoke him out. Tides of Nullity, Edeldross blasts, and so on. Verschlengorge may be too weak to contribute much, but his bulk should be exploited for cover.

Avecarn is arguably the most interesting character of the three, though there's potential for an exploration of vengeance through Gondar. It'd be amusing to assert the superiority of fishing over the lily-livered art of gardening (the plants don't even fight back!), but he's got a Rank of 6.5 and his Soul Evocation translates authority into asskicking. He is the The Administration... and we have the Doom of the Tyrant. I suspect combat's inevitable, which is why I'm going with the more feasible fight of the two.

Or I guess we could spend 4 Arete unlocking waifu bait, but fuck that.

Getting into a dangerous situation and then having our ring glow with an awesome power to get us out of it also sounds pretty cool.

[X] Selune vi Tries [Cost: 4 Arete]
[X] None

These EFBs seem weak to me, show me Gisena's Rihaku! In all honesty I would rather take Pillars and time Ruling Ring so that when we take it Pillars is up, if someone comes we can't take it gives us 7 days to find a way.

Hm. Would something like this suffice?

Echo Conjuration, an art of recreation and of great depth. Its rudiments begin with the recreation of ephemeral things, such as sounds or images, before graduating by degrees towards larger scale, more permanent, more material recreations, from the conjuration of observed objects all the way up to the instantiation of mythic archetypes to shape the course of history along paths it has trod before. It also possesses a secret tech, the Fourth Transformation, which inverts the repetitive, recreative aspect of Echo Conjuration into a self-avoiding cascade, the creation of the New Matter.

it would definitely suffice i love it -> the deep instantiation, the footprint of a footprint left behind, the reverberation concatenating and compounding to form something greater than its forebear

Also would appreciate a magical system!
on it
How does it let us grind picks?

by buffing the Best Waifu

I just want Pillars because it's the only way we don't stagnate eventually, and it lets us hunt specific rare picks we had to skip in the past.

Heal Ver to higher astral rank, use higher astral rank to attract higher level astral beasts, kill said beasts for picks and if available, improve domain blood, to gain even more picks long-term, etc.
That's a fairly short-term gain. Pillars is permanent. So long as we live we can use it to keep gaining picks. Otherwise, picks are finite.

Eh, there are other ways like getting Rune King and other Training modifier for an magic system that make our Ring debuff to training irrelevant. We can simply train our magic traditional way at that point.

I don't particularly want Selune but it's a bit unfair to dismiss the option as waifu bait. The benefits of having a council member on our side for the purposes of infiltrating are pretty huge. It would also greatly increase the chances of a diplomatic resolution to the temple.

[X] High Marshall Avecarn
[X] The Ring of Power: Crimson Flare

Is this going to be another 5 flop vote for me.

At the moment though, Pillars is still a consistent pick for me. At least for the time being anyway. Literally our own pocket dimension. Given that Evening Sky can turn into pants, it'll literally be a dimension inside our pocket. Also it'll be a fun throwback to Nameless Yong. Everything we want at our fingertips, and makes future scaling something less of a headache.

Can't be assed to deal with Bounty Hunter for the time being. Gibme pls scene where Hunger gets dunked on ala Dad Jokes from a Grand Dad. pls.

Will unironically flop again. If ever. As always. Washoo.

I would argue medium-term. We can likely heal Ver to up to rank 8 in a reasonable time-frame, rank is hyper-logharitimic, so the difference between a 7 rank astral beast and a 8 rank one is immese. By the point that we have outscaled them, we can generate enough arete to pick pillars.

Yeah. I am not voting for an waifu or whatever. She's just an amazing option overall, she will allow us to maximize our gains from infiltration and potentially having an council member(legitimacy ahoy) on our side who might defect would massively increase our chances to break the Moon civilization from within.

Consider a vote for Flare as hedge against having more Blade EFBs, something you've expressed dislike for in the past. For one Arete it's a perfectly reasonable safety net and barely slows down Pillars at all. Unless you are voting for Selune, but if you want to get Pillars I don't see why you'd want to splurge on her; and if you want to anyway, what's one more Arete?

Indeed, Flare lets us farm stronger Astral Spawn. We can also buff Gisena and Letrizia, and increase their lifespan. It offers us powerful buffing to our kingdom in future and so on. On top of ton of Rank mega debuffing we get right now.

Plus we can actually go for Trinity without awkward prospect of getting Ruling Ring.

Sweet power and utility of BALANCE option can be yours for just 25 Arete!

I think Silver of Evening is somewhat being overlooked due to the convenience of Crimson Flare, but 1 pick is not a very onerous requirement and the power it offers is very synergistic with your build. Consider that Super Juggernaut Undead Chimera gives a total of +500% distributed among 5 stats, whereas this grants +30% to all stats (~360%) and +200% distributed to Agility and Charisma. What's more, it grants an even greater bonus the further you develop your Edeldross magnitude! That +30% might become +50% or +70% one day, which means it would give you an almost unprecedented level of value!

+Defensive Rank is great as well, and situational Tyrant mitigation can get you out of a lot of pinches, to say nothing of the perfect defense's value against ultimate attacks. Crimson Flare is decent with your build too, but given how stats-heavy you are Silver of Evening is incredible.

It's a little weird that Truth and Moon are both Azure, right?

It's not *just* a sneak attack from Gondar. It's spoiled water sources every direction we travel. It's stronger and stronger Astral Beasts lured to our location. It's esoteric effects boosting or enraging weaker astral beasts who wouldn't otherwise threaten us. It's punishing and incessant pressure in a thousand little ways.

Eventually it's a long-distance shot that downs Gisena when our attention lapses just for a second. It's a volley of shots launched at Letrizia while we are out hunting.

Pillars of Creation is, I'm sorry to say, quite a long ways off. It's not going to be the next EFB we get, because people are still worried about the power-relevancy of Hunger in the short-term and Pillars is a long-term potential EFB. I like Pillars the most out of all the Evening Sky EFBs, and you know from my obstinate picking of Sky options that I'll support going for it when it's time has come, but we're going to have to put it to bed and set an alarm for a bit first.

This also ties into my picking of the Flare option now; I don't want Silver of Evening to win. I don't want to see it again. I actively hope we don't. It is objectively the weakest (and speaking personally, the least interesting) EFB for the Evening Sky we've yet seen. And I don't want such a lesser EFB competing for relevancy with Pillars when it's hard enough to muster enthusiasm for anything relating to the Evening Sky in the face of the Forebear and Praxis.

Hmm, I'll sleep on it, but it is a good idea. I'm just worried people will ignore Pillars, and I hav so many ideas for how to abuse it to get the other things we want.

Can I write in a purchase for Once and Future?
No. We can't afford it. Or even close.

But Crimson Flare would finally give us an opportunity to correct our nature as a Ranklet though! At least, it starts doing that. Gotta start somewhere, and an EFB is a pretty good start!
Can I write in a purchase for Once and Future?
This is not a purchase vote; this is a vote to reserve them in a similar way to Once and Future. If you just want Once and Future to have that privilege, I suspect the vote for that to be None.

It's a utility EFB rather than a potential one. Which makes it amusing that it has so much potential.

By the way, since the wording is a bit odd @Rihaku: Is the bonus provided by Crimson Flare flat, or does it scale as we get stronger even after taking it?
