Experimentation voters, the risk of a 20-30% failure would be a pretty severe blow, basically wasting the time Hunger spends training... why not take Control or Magnitude and lock in guaranteed value? You can always go greedy on the picks themselves.

Hey, dumb question. Can we use Philosopher's Wreath on Accretion itself? It's a magic system, Letrizia's opinion on the matter notwithstanding. But is it ~Magical~ enough for the Sky to care?

Dammit. Forgot about that part.

Fine, switching to this:

[X] Augment Dominion: Blood
[X] Sub
lime Transfusion

[X] Magnitude

To clarify about this, since I just stated above that getting a 2 arete option depreciates our ability to spend it later, I justify this on the basis that Rihaku outright said we could heal Vershlengorge to Rank 5.5 with ease, and up to Rank 6.9 with prolonged effort, which means we'll that even after the Temple's conquered we'll have astral assholes attacking that will be able to offer valuable (and potentially rare) Picks for Hunger.

Since Ruling Ring is gated by Picks as well as Arete, I view this as an investment in a greater capacity to get those Picks.

[X] Augment Dominion: Blood
[X] Sublime Transfusion
- 2 Arete

Let's go heal Verch and finish this damned Temple so we can start selecting our picks without the freaking annoying looming 'THE TEMPLE WILL KILL YOU' problem. My other preference would probably be Philospher's Wreath to boost Surgecraft and get a minor escalatory cognitive loop (Smarter so I can use magic smarter to be smarter which makes me smarter -> Repeat..). The Rank 6.5 compat prototypes could solve the temple, 6.8/6.9 Verch has a really good shot at it at minimum.

Ennobling is quite interesting if you're going to recruit additional mages. Could help them fend for themselves while also being a great perk overall! Or perhaps Hunger could return after conquering the Temple to raise up an entire civilization of Ennobled Surgers! Would have to get them to change their country's name, though...

And of course, deal with the Voyaging Realm's defenses against mage extraction!

[X] Augment Dominion: Blood
[X] Sublime Transfusion
- 2 Arete

Right, let me vote for the thing I was actually arguing for. Ennobling is still good value though; it'll get pretty stupid once we actually get out of the bloody temple.

...But that value comes in play after the temple, and my preferred target after the temple (or, better, get it instead of the ring) is Pillars EFB, which just straight up allows us to choose what sort of picks we get. We'll get it once we actually need it.

...Unless we push for the diplo solution, of course. Man, great many options here.

That makes sense. Hell, +Mental Stats might actually be the Sky's idea of reinforcing Accretion. Maiden knows we could use some Wisdom right about now.

Why do I get the feeling that Evening Sky will only be relevant when we get Pillars?

Honestly, I don't see Wreath winning when Inksky couldn't.
Wreath can win in the same thread where Inksky couldn't because Wreath isn't an Evening Sky option at its heart. It does nothing to contribute to what the Evening Sky offers. It uses the Evening Sky as a vector to do other magics. It takes the focusing lens away from the Evening Sky itself and moves it to the wholly distinctive capabilities made available at the Evening Sky's sufferance.

That the most popular option right now is to use it to enhance Edeldross is an added slap to the face of anyone that supported Inksky previously, and I would oppose it purely on that basis alone. I also would rather the Wreath be used to unlock Hunger's Soul Evocation if it's taken, so I can readily say this opposition isn't born purely of spite, but that part's also definitely in there.

Alright, I've calmed down now.

This is a very powerful pick that also ensures that Letrizia becomes relevant. Remember when repairing Verschlengorge cost Arete AND a pick for a single, one-time partial repair? Well this solves that issue forever. It's also pretty cheap Arete-wise.

Hm... both Ennobling and Sublime Transfusion are rare, but they also pursue paths to solving the Temple that don't rely on Hunger's personal power to a degree. This can be good in many ways, but there's something to be said for simplicity and consistency in the application of power. You may not always have access to Verschlengorge, or to Ennobled allies or enemies you wish to Ennoble. On the other hand, Vigor Itself - or Fierce Quickening - can never betray you!

Fierce Quickening would also help with developing Edeldross since it improves Wits. Steadily building Blood Advancements and saving Arete now could lead to a tremendous payoff in only a few more days, and if you get into real trouble you can snap-buy a Stance to improve your safety, so it's quite good overall.

I mean, we're ultimately here to rule a kingdom, not to be Murderhobo Prime.

Which isn't to say personal power is bad - far from it - but being able to make our allies and subordinates more effective is simply a far more efficient approach to power than trying to do it all ourselves.

Vigor will never betray us, guys! Neither will Fierce Quickening! (Please pick STATS and S A V E, friends!)

[X] Ennobling
[X] Control

Well, this is a thing, not wild about this vote, but I think it's the best value we have right now.

Ennobling is rare, costs no Arete, is immensely valuable to our party, and gives hunger another bargaining chip once we hit the sphere.

As for our focus, control is tempting, it's supposedly the hardest element to train, and I would like to see what more complicated applications of our element open up. The sudo grace on offer is the most simple grace we could craft, and we don't know if we get limited slots like with sorcery.

I had been thinking about experimentation, but I seem to have talked myself into control.

This is flatly the wrong time for Wreath, it's a rare advancement, incredibly valuable, and we cant afford to waste it here.

We cant use it to buff Praxis, and we have seen nothing of Surgecraft yet, this is one of the few picks we've seen that grant magic, and the new buff is Very potent, save it for a better system, either a new one, or just a flat out better magic.

If Surgecraft turns out to be all that, well, we have seen this before, and can take it latter, the immedeate power it offers us in the temple is less then Mage Defeating Stance, and certainly less then what we could get if we manage to save the Arete for an EFB.

To be honest, it would be nice to remove the vision-blinders the thread has on "Gotta do it myself to get it done". It's gotten quite silly to know that objectively we're only here still because Hunger's decided to commit to its resolution, but then not have the rest of the party help take much of the weight to more readily get it done.

We do have access to Vershlengorge now, when it's relevant. Whether we do in the future is immaterial (in this instance) because we're looking at ways to solve the puzzle of the temple, and he' can be a square peg for the square hole if we stop making Hunger the single point of failure for this dungeon-delve.

And as mentioned before, restoration of the mecha results in new and interesting opportunities to kill gribblies from another dimension which can earn us some picks when we're not in the Temple, which we can then use to reinvest in those Blood options. It's a little more long-term, but when the difference is 3-4 days versus 10-14, "more long-term" rings a smidge more hollowly.

Currently two Arete wouldn't be much of a setback though, so if you want to keep the option to panic-buy a Stance or want to still keep towards that great payoff; you should vote for a two Arete option! Preferably Ennobling, so we can finally get some practice at the whole ruling the Human Sphere thing! Plus, don't you all want to make Gisena even more of a genius? It's hard to imagine, but we can!

@Duquette7 Technically Ennobling costs 2 Arete.

@Rihaku Tally incoming

I'm not sure why, but I recoil at the thought of spending 7 Arete now, unless it's for Dreadnought or Ring (or Slice Fate)! I'm much more amenable to the 2 Arete options-- if stats lags behind, then the second best SAVE option will have to do!

Ennobling and Augment/Sublime are both 2 arete options that allow Hunger to step back a little as The Guy, and allow alternative approaches to the Temple in the short-term while also opening up greater utility towards interpersonal and socio-economic capabilities in the long-term (if in different ways).

I would be pleased if either one of them won, as they would add greater variety to our existing skillset and the price is ultimately quite cheap for the value they offer.

Also that +Catherine(?) mystery box is quite enticing, not gonna lie. I wonder if a revival Grace is among those that can be replicated? Of course, reviving what is implied to be a Rank 7+ character is really imbalanced.
Well, rank reducing injuries are hardly unknown. If balance is your only concern, that is easy to fix, she just doesn't resurrect at full power.
If we get it at all, I'd rather not apply the Philosopher's Wreath bonus to Edeldross. I think getting a true Grace and then working our way to High Sorcery would do a lot more for our capabilities in general due to the interactions that I think that combination could open up. Taking a look at the interactions between Findross and Edeldross would also be pretty neat, especially when we could see what happens to someone who possesses both simultaneously.
I do like that idea. If Philosopher's Wreath is taken, I think that would be more useful than just doubling down on Edeldross. Infusing a Sorceror with Findross precursor could be extremely useful. What sort of cross platform synergies could that unlock?

Not to mention the fact that both companion's personal efforts can be cross compatible with Hunger's magic education is also potentially very valuable.
Control is severely underrated! A +20% All Stats buff that you can place on allies means Gisena's Sublime Attainment effectiveness will be even further improved! In fact, you could go Control + Ennobling for serious Gisena power...
That is what I was thinking, myself.

[x]Ennobling
[x]Control

Not buffing enemies is much more important that having a more powerful buff zone that smart and fast enemies can take advantage of. Making sure your new power actually does what you want it to do is more important than making it do something more powerfully.

And as interesting as the Wreath is, I'd rather do a cheaper and rarer option now, which further boosts Hunger's followers. The Gisena and Hunger duo can then further progress.

Currently Wreath's winning because its opponents are split between three different kinds of Blood vote. The Wreath has at least that much variation in potential picks, but it signs as a single option so it's effectively weighted.

Now would be a good time to start trading votes, guys. Even a short term, low-value "vote my way now and next two votes I go your way" guarantee might be enough to break the stale.
