It's absolutely not, Apex is actually higher than Rune King currently. Moreover, you can approval vote so you don't actually have to decide. If that's your only objection, you might as well add Apex to your vote to stop Sword from winning and ensuring we get no magic system at all.
But didn't Rihaku say that a approval vote just splits your vote power in half?
In which case its still better to vote for the alternative ahead.

I was also assuming that Rune king gets the composite Drednaught vote (thus it being ahead) if this is not the case however...

This vote is a trial for a model of approval voting where your full power applies to both of two choices

Hm, Push In is actually fairly competitive with Search on votes, though I believe it's somewhat behind on argument / omake power.

Guys, let's not go for push, especially with Apex so close with Sword-Arm.

Looks like I'm going to have to put two markers on offer for Rune King then. Usual terms, 1 veto(I'm unlikely to use it unless it's something like another shot at Azure Moon or something), marker invocation is on a first come first serve basis, etc. I'll try to come up with argument material too. Fair Point though @DkArthas. I removed pushing in further from my vote. Tag me with your vote if you're interested.

All right, tactics for interacting with adventurers:

Pressure manipulation to find compatible groups and bringing Gisena along seem like the obvious things to do. She verges on being tolerable when her wiles are pointed downrange and is way better than Hunger when it comes to manipulation. Pitfall-wise, I can see people trying to kill us for our ring. If the Call's a widely known phenomenon, anything that clarifies it or makes it tolerable's going to be worth more than its weight in gold. That it wouldn't work for them doesn't stop them from trying. But unlike the Ring of Truth it doesn't advertise its existence, so being circumspect about its function and covering the ring up (if this doesn't impede Pressure use, Hunger should exercise his judgment there) ought to be enough.

The Tyrant's Doom is the other big pain in the ass. Gisena can do most of the talking, acting as the carrot to Hunger's silently scowling stick, but he should take a moment to consider his own values and likely triggers. Slavery, an excess of aristocratic privilege, that sort of thing. Parameterize Pressure so we find people without, like, baggage trains of serfs. We haven't had a proc yet or interacted with civilizations in the VR (what a suspicious acronym; might be linked to Bearic's worldview?), but I think we should be able to anticipate some hot button issues and steer the conversation away from them. Indirect mitigation's the best we can manage, until Gisena finds inspiration or we can spare the Arete.

Oh hey we can approval vote? Too bad s'not named Apex Flight, but totes still a sweet option~

Another thing we could try looking for - adventurers that are fighting monsters or other adventurers, which should be pretty easy to perceive with our plot senses. People can tolerate a lot from their rescuers, and while the Tyrant's Doom makes too much direct interaction dangerous, we're still one charismatic bastard. So use that supernatural charisma to impress them with action on first meeting and let Gisena work her magic afterwards.

Aside from all the questions about what we can do, there's also our backstory to consider. Who do we pose as? Where do we come from? What drew us to the Temple and why are we still here?

I'd say being former nobles turned adventurers fits us pretty well and could explain Hunger's excessive 'arrogance'. It's even true to some extent, so not much effort to adjust to it. Still, it would be nice if we had more info on some fallen Houses that we could pretend to be part of. Maybe Letrizia can help here?

Explaining why nobody saw us at the camp might be a bit troublesome and I don't really want to reveal our free access to the backdoor, but unless there are really strict checks (which I doubt), we can gloss over it.

Not gonna lie, the real reason Apex appeals to me is that this is the most Arete we've had at once. We're nearly half way to Once and Future. You think +0.5 Rank is hot shit? Try +2 Rank, baby. Better, a +2 Rank that remains flat and doesn't decrease if we go to High Rank. It's crazy. Legitimately think something broken like that is what we need to clear the Temple. Right now that we don't have to worry about Apocryphal is the best time to collect. If Rank is the Godstat, we want as much of it as possible.

If we bring a weak but amiable group towards us, could we potentially use our Rank based instincts to provide Gisena and initial briefing for the ideal approach before we actually begin negotiations? We've seen it pull information from seemingly out of nowhere before and we've grown quite a bit stronger since then. Perhaps something about the subconscious movements and/or body language?

Really not sure we can manage to avoid Arete expenditures for that long. Theoretically Progression should allow us to become stronger even without Arete, especially if we manage to find some support, and it's true that being Apocrypha-free is one of the best times to save up. Still, I don't expect things to go according to plan in this spooky place.

Trying to save arete here for an EFB equivalent right now is an absolutely horrible idea. We can barely survive in the outskirts, we need power now.

That's why we should go for Ruling Ring! The road there is quite viable given the +0.5 Rank while it in itself a lot of immediate power between massively strengthening Ring of Power and providing ++All Stats. Moreover, if we still need to spend Arete when we've got an absolutely stupid x270 total multiplier to our Progression, then we don't just deserve to get Once and Future.

@Conjured Blade Sure I'll take the deal, Odin isn't a bad aesthetic and it's a powerful option both in the short and long term

I can get behind going all in into Ring. Odin is cool but Sauron is the coolest! It worked out well for Nameless!

yeah the sheer, incredible danger of where we are and the course we have committed to makes saving for a 25 Arete option simply not viable based on the current pace of updates and how time is likely pass if we eschew the temple for safety.

definitely dramatically increases our chances of getting a 25 Arete option; personally I'm just too scared of meeting our Isildur to support it.
