My impression is that the curses came relatively late in his progression, but I could be wrong there
He told us that he's vastly diminished from his peak, so the Curses almost certainly came latter, when he was on the brink of achieving final victory. The resulting golden forever would've been a grand omniverse to live in and hopefully someday will be, but I don't know that we could run a quest there. In any case, it's unlikely that anything in this universe contributed to the Curses. If that's wrong, we're fucked anyway, so we should play as if it isn't.

My money's on this being some other Progression-type's mitigation setup, where they got the Ereadhihr to agree to a simple very complicated transaction. We know from the Accursed's strategy that the endgame of Curse mitigation is getting other people to deal with your baggage in exchange for power. A Sufficiently Advanced Cursebearer is indistinguishable from a god; there's no reason they couldn't imitate our patron's methods. Question is, how'd the house of cards fall apart?

Well yeah eventually but even the Accursed was probably a pleb at some point. Assuming he was Odyssial then maybe they could have hurt him just after he busted out of creation?

Nah, Odyssial was already beyond everything in this verse by the time he busted out, if such a Shard existed. Successful Odyssial would, of course, be much more powerful than even the HFA Odyssial you played, since he would have all the time in the world to train and all the world's resources to augment him.

If the Accursed's endgame doesn't involve more Rihaku quests, I'm not for it.

Does this make Gisena a pokemon trainer? "Cursebearer I choose you!"
Hey, we chose her! Hunger's not aware of it IC and exposure to her personality may cause us to question this decision, but what's done is done. At least at our level of Progression.

I reread Most High's intro recently and man, that was a fun sequence to play through. It's actually what triggered my face-heel turn to Vengeance, in conjunction with the comparison you made.

That's quite a lot of Arete expenditure, you guys! Are you giving up on the idea of getting to 7 Arete for one of the big purchases?

People seem to have gotten taken with chasing a shiny that we aren't really in a condition to take at this time. It's irritating the winning combo is maximim arete loss. I might switch to Keep even though I would much rather Spill just to reduce the damage being done by chasing the fishing shiny.

I was just looking at Terrascape Academy (again) and - The Vitalist mystery. The sudden disinterest in AI and Biosciences. The impossibility of conducting mental sacrifice for Vitalism. The lack/impossibility of Brain Vitalist artifact. I postulate that it is possible to attack vitalists with an in-depth knowledge of their artifacts and effectively instant kill them, or apply science to their vitalism and cause a realization of the magical contradiction inherent, also causing death. This is done to prevent vitalists from creating a super-AI that would in fact overrun the world with it's crazy level of intelligence. Or maybe to further it.

Or: Brainnnssssssssss. The singularity is a zombie.

Nah, this is probably wrong and way off the mark. Maybe they're being killed because they're propagating a hideously unsafe way of learning magic.

It looks like Rank 10 = Stage 15 in Cultivation-verse. Infinite Power! I wonder if this world and the Hero's are related? Perhaps the Geas sends one to 'adjacent (metaphysically speaking' worlds, to prevent disorientation? It already sends people to plot-relevant points, perhaps to accelerate the rate of Geas completion. The elves and orcs of the world Seram visited were adjacent to his understanding, after all. Education: Ultimate Skill?

I like the Apocryphal Curse. From a Meta standpoint, I would never select it given other curses I could select. Cultivating Grinding in obscurity for a century maybe the best and optimal tactic, but no way is it fun to play.

It is, to my understanding. He's saying we're spending yet another arete here when we are on the cusp of being able to afford to actually buy one of the 7 arete options.
I think it depends on how much Arete we get. We're likely to enter consolidation:

As for the recent Hunger vote, we'll hold off on consolidation and see how much Arete you guys get through tomorrow, in case we have to re-work some things.

If we tell her and she decides to betray us, who is she going to tell? Also she doesn't seem super cunning, I'm sure we would figure out ahead of time.

Gotta start building the legend somewhere. Spill because it's better for this shit to come out far from civilization where we can weigh her reaction than have them discover it back at Nerv HQ.

Or cold hard cash I guess, but the exchange rate on that would be pretty fucking heavy.

Now, you say that, but when you say the exchange rate is bad do you mean SSR on """rate up""" bad?

also pfffffffbbbb Priest set the thing to music, felt I had to share (turn audio on of course):

(for those curious, it's Too Many Zoos' "We Are Number One" cover)

I get the feeling that big eats are going to be important for Lord Hunger.

Guys please stop voting for the king option we can't actually afford yet. It's going to ruin any chance of us getting one of the 7 arete options and we're sooo close.

Wait did the last vote close? I thought the ability one was ongoing?

No, it hasn't closed, just been put on hold while you guys generate Arete in case you can get to 7 before tomorrow evening EST.

You'll probably want 7, instead of 6, if you're going with Fisher King. Exhaustion plus Arete Debt is not a combination I'm going to allow you to take because it would be suicidal.

Mm, not quite. They do different things. A Stage 15 Cultivator is literally throwing around transfinite levels of force, while a Rank 10 being could have theroretically the stats of a normal human but the power of their spirit is so immense that they're able to defeat Stage 15 Cultivators (depending on matchups, Reality Effects and the like).

Perhaps this is the beginning of the path to Cooking Cultivation!

That's interesting. Sounds almost like the Praxis, actually. It looks like a Seven Seals-Accretion user would have a potent synergy as Accretion can empower the seals, souls and skill of Seven Seals, which can be used to.. do anything. I wonder how a Progression Class gains access to other magic systems? Seram was deposited on a world where magic was exclusive to sorceresses, and gained Graces only with the assistance of another. There must be an innate way for Progression Classes to gain access to magic.

So far with Accretion I mostly am seeing the possibility of using Abduction to acquire a magic staff or item, and then reverse engineer magic. Probably not the most efficient method, if at all.
Perhaps this is the beginning of the path to Cooking Cultivation!
Hmm, it might be worth thinking about synergies between Fishing, Cooking and Cultivation. Cooking might, if we use the TSH effect of Accretion, be rapidly elevated to allow creation of transcendental foodstuffs, or the opposite thereof, such as Gisena-level cooking poisons. This might be used as an adjunct to diplomacy and/or earning cash. Or, in EFB's setting, creating super cultivation pills meals. Via Accretion, transcendental skills of cooking might be used to mind control people or achieve otherwise similar effects.
