Hahaha, what the fuck. No, seriously, what the fuck? This is too many coincidences; was our first stop on the Geas' train determined by our Nature of Magic and Curse selections? ...do the Geas and the Apocryphal Curse synergize? What a horrifying thought. Man, did not expect my tinfoil hat-tier theory about Verschlengorge being a Cursebearer to be anywhere near the money. The only question is if the Foremost had a deal with the Accursed or a High Cursebearer, to create mechs to bear them or something, or if they acquired enough Cursebearers to go full Alveua and forge them all into Armaments. But good god, Knowledge was the right choice, I can feel my desire to know more intensifying by the instant.

[X] Keep Your Own Counsel
[X] Substantially

Keep vs. Spill is hard. But ultimately, this is too suspicious to start spilling the beans. Substantially's just dipping our feet in the waters of balance bro status, but is also a hedge against betrayal by maximizing our reputation with Letrizia.

One thing to think about if we're voting Keep, we already voted to tell Gisena about our curses last chapter and sought her help in mitigating them. So unless we social Gisena so that she's firmly in our corner we don't really have any guarantee she won't just tell Letty.

She does seem like a gossip, though a noble gossip!

[X] Spill

We've already voted to spill to one. Might as well spill to the other. Particularly given if anyone has direct experience on how to mitigate the curse she does. And as I said this is a relatively safe testbed.

[X] None

If we get enough arete I'll consider it, but as it is... no. We can afford to wait a bit to recover before we go after accretion rank.

This will change if we get an extra arete.

Would Fisher King open up accretion stuff related to effecting the land under us? The entire King is one with the land bullshit?

We also don't know what kind of sensors Letz has access to, even though she has a paper book she clearly also has some pretty high tech.
Paper books are a decent way to store information long term. They are less volatile than electronics.

Also I just got the name reference. Do we really want to risk emulating the Fisher King from legend? Because I have a bad feeling about the paths that opens.

I think we're more likely to get deepest lore info out of her if we spill. Plus comparing notes might allow her to connect the dots in ways she wouldn't without knowing about the Accursed. Maybe the forebears even had a hand in some of the Accursed's cursing and his inevitable vengeance is why they're not around anymore?

[X] Spill

This would put Letrizia at ++++. For reference sake, that was enough for Suizhan to offer us her eyes, so if there is any parity between this and EFB it would be rather massive.

I'm impressed they're still making real progress at all despite the sheer scale of their empire. No method of storing information is infallible, after all.

Well, isolated or concentrated research clusters exploiting economies of scale (when applicable) can certainly help!

Hmm, I was thinking that much of Ol'Gorger's decline was a pretty recent thing based on some of the stuff said earlier. It might be instead that it's simply that their solution is just to stick it in space and let it cannibalize itself till needed though and it's just been slowly ticking down over the ages. That would be a strong disincentive for us to run our mouth here.

Hm...

I guess it depends on how significant rank 3 is, the way she talked didn't give me the impression that it was previously some widely known/accepted phenomenon that just hadn't been fully quantified but everyone accepted was a thing. If rank three is still potentially within human norms

3.0 isn't blatantly superhuman in a provable way unless you've got them under pretty comprehensive surveillance, and even then most of the time they just seem like a really powerful normal human. Like a young Exalt with no peripheral, conserving motes and only using Excellencies, though that's an imperfect analogy.

Then why not Spill?

You are pretty sure that Gisena would keep your secrets if you asked her to and/or made it a precondition to disclosing them in the first place. Not absolutely certain, but you do trust her with your life already...

I don't think the armaments declined recently given Zea says they've had them for millenium. Probably they were weakened by whatever happened to the forebears and the Human Spheres haven't been able to restore them to full power.

The nationalizing comment Rihaku made makes me think that the Devourer's curse is just spread out over an even more ridiculously large area than ours is and thus the percentage of life it takes from any one person is reduced by a comparable amount. That way it's just like they reduced everyone's lifespan by a year in return for a superweapon.

So "super human but subtle about it." Like Captain America vs superman - one is peak human the other ridiculously inhuman. They'd be just past the cusp of peak human, but in such a way no one is going to be able to tell without watching them like a hawk. Interesting.

Rihaku did say earlier that our Curse selection influence our landing site. I suspect we would have landed wherever was appropriate for our curses. So Brand of the Wretched Seram doesn't land inside a populated area, for example. That would have been very inconvenient.
[X] Spill

It's worth noting that Suizhen is not the most sane of characters (as well as having those eyes to give us, and was also an Age of Glory Hero).. and furthermore all our buffs to Xiaoling didn't proc a loyalty event.

[X] Spill

Trying to hide it from her is like setting things up for Apocrypha ourselves. Though not hiding it just means she'll spill it herself at a wrong time. Have I mentioned how much I hate Apocrypha?

[X] Of Fishermen, A King

You think we'll simply catch ourselves dinner, however kingly? What a pedestrian goal! How can we take on the Fisher King's name if we don't try to fish out a waifu?!

It was only a matter of time before you joined us... Balancebros... rejoice!

He doesn't intend to disclose the existence of the Accursed himself or anything like that. Just details about his Curses and the broad outlines of his power, including Progression typing.

Progression typing is the ultimate type. Even better than Fairy/Steel.

This would put Letrizia at ++++. For reference sake, that was enough for Suizhan to offer us her eyes, so if there is any parity between this and EFB it would be rather massive.

Mm, it's not quite the same system as EFB, no. +Relations are still valuable, but it's not a 10 point scale and the +s you see on screen are just an indicator for their more nuanced complete feelings towards you. Nor is a high numbers of +s necessarily romantic!

But, a reasonable loyalty analogue nonetheless.

Accretion can apply to items, techniques, and locales. Going Beyond on our literal fishing expedition doesn't seem like an intuitive first step, but it is possible to do that sort of thing, so perhaps? Accursed knows we'll need all the help we can get, given the scope of this conquest task.

Suizhen was unstable, though, courtesy of her backstory and Zang's experiments with the Eyes of Kong. Letrizia's well-adjusted despite all the Asuka parallels... though now I'm curious whether Verschlengorge ate some or all of her mother.
Which two curses were we forced to take to be a progression type? Of course they do. It's only a matter of if we can twist that to be to our advantage or if it will end up burying us.
It does look that way, yeah. We're in for both interesting times and worlds, if we survive long enough.

Maybe the forebears even had a hand in some of the Accursed's cursing and his inevitable vengeance is why they're not around anymore?
Whoa, whoa, hold on there. Even the absolute peak of power here is just infinite physical strength/resilience. The Accursed and his enemies stand above this by an exponentially large number of iterations.

Well yeah eventually but even the Accursed was probably a pleb at some point. Assuming he was Odyssial then maybe they could have hurt him just after he busted out of creation?
