Also think about it this way. We promise to give tribute, willow comes back and wrecks us in a civil war. We are unable to pay tribute. The lowlanders and goat guys come back again and stomp us into irrelevancy

No if Deer comes back and wins, we now have the army that would destroy them back, They can't actually beat us.
The only reason were in a bad position is because of how Azel intepreted the last vote, if our army was here we wouldn't capitulate

The only reason were at risk of losing Civ wide is because our army is in the distant eastern side of the mountains, like a month or two away chasing literal ghosts at this point.

Id still rather fight. We have the clansmen, the walls, and the holysite. If you guys want to try diplomacy then fine, but the people in charge are neither diplomats nor military folk, so if it doesnt work and we dont have a backup plan or take precautions, we are screwed.

Edit: meaning I would rather place faith in our military experience rather than diplomatic

Were already fucked, if it doesn't work then we lose. We literally cannot win.
Well... Baring the Dice Gods blessing us.

We can try both. We ought to deploy our troops both inside Greenvalley's walls and on the grounds of the White Halls, in case things come down to a fight, but hopefully an envoy and a clever rationalizations will allow us to escape by giving "gifts" that don't cripple our economy.

Same here, honestly. But if nothing else, the diplo option gets to delay them as well (I'd much prefer to delay with hit and run if I thought that Deer could come back in time)

How far of a march away is the army, and how far away is deer, assuming neither is delayed by non environmental factors?

Our military experience and expertise is not in hit and runs, its with the lowlanders. The only possible advantage we have in a guerrilla situation is local knowledge. Thats it.

Splitting our people to be defeated in detail is a bad idea. They have 4 options to attack us:
1) Paddle upriver all the way
2) use the crossing
3) ford the river at a different point
4) go wide and cross the mountains

If I was them I would go with option 3, option 1 is too obvious, option 2 is plausable but not totally ideal, 3 has the highest probability to work well for them and 4 is a stretch but we will be able to react in time if they do this.

Im probably going to change my plan for the #3 potentiality
We are good with traps though? Hell our initial civ survived a winter attack with traps
The problem is where they go and making sure they go through there. Trapping the crossing and the walls/white halls is fair but anywhere else and it becomes more likely to be wasted effort

One thing of note, is that you might be underestimating our enemies to begin with. When you last saw their forces, they only had hunter, now they seemingly have access to specialized roles. On top of that, while you ultimately bailed out of the war, they kept fighting with the Makar, which means that they might have more military experience.

Bottom line is, as much as people are confident that you would win if you had your entire army, I wouldn't be so sure. Sure, the walls all but guarantee that they wouldn't be able to storm greenvalley, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made you bleed in a field batle. Thing is, you don't have a clue just how effective their militaries are in combat, how many more soldiers they can field, how they would handle a war, etc. In a situation like this, I would say diplomacy would be the priority.

Perhaps something like this:

[X] Try to negotiate with the oncoming army.
-[X]Tell them that the warriors went mad with lust for glory, and foolishly tried to raid the Goat People.
--[X]Offer to give them whatever was gained by our raids back, and obsidian/azerite as compensation for these that died.
---[X]If deemed necessary, make a blood pact that they won't attack brushcrest or the goat nomads as long as they lived.

This tries to do something that both councilors want.(That is, avoid conflict with the lowlands) and avoids showing us in a position of weakness, since we are merely paying back these that were killed. Both hopefully would minimize the odds of an stability check.

Is this a valid plan?

Can't make my plan WIN if I DELETE it can you?

Still counts! And it was still in the tally!!~
[-] Plan Never Corner A Bear
-[-] Meet them in battle.
--[-] 2 x Hunters, 12 x Mobs
--[-] Both remaining Councilors will jointly address the Valley People, and remind them that to their backs is the shrine where their forefathers lay buried, and that their Ancestors expect that they protect their earthly remains from the depredations from the Makar and the sowing peoples. The Makar, accepting no prisoners, will drag and kill even the children, if the Valley People do not fight this day; and the hunters, while valiant, cannot hold back a force many times their own numbers. If the Valley Peoples will not fight like bears and wolves this day, all will be lost!
--[-] Meet the enemy in battle as they cross the river and make landing on the mouth of the valley (river-crossing bonus).
--[-] Send a runner to the settlement at Speaker's Rest asking for its hunters to come to our aid. Runner will swear on his blood that we will repay assistance rendered generously.
:D

No no no no no don't vote for this

I'm deleting this plan, someone pls draw up a diplomacy plan
Actually, where are the majority of our orchards?
From the map it looks like most of production, as well as our great Temple, are behind the walled main-village from the direction these attackers must be coming from.

If we do a combat plan, I'd prefer to wait by our walls.
Then the attackers have to pass under the shadow of these walls to get to our vulnerable parts.
If they go in the direction of the White Halls (which is likely even by geography, regardless if they want to attack it or not) we can rile up our people with that idea.

Basically at that point our people will have a much better view what they are defending, while both we and our enemy must fight in full view of our achievements.

That is tactically less sound than holding the river, but in terms of moral it should work out much better.

Just binged this quest today. Oh boy what a place to catch up. Looking at the situation I realize we do not actually need to win. We just need to make sure the opposing army is not willing to win. We also know that nearly our entire army is gone but do they? If Great Deer is still kicking and has not been killed/captured we may be able to bluff. After all what crazy people would send their entire army out raiding? obviously in the generations of our isolation we have grown strong and have just as many hunters here. If it works it would give us a some strength at the bargaining table.

[X] Hunker down behind the walls of Greenvalley and wait for Willow to return with the hunters.
If we die we die.

[X] Hunker down behind the walls of Greenvalley and wait for Willow to return with the hunters.
-[X] Send envoys to any and all White Clans asking for help in defending the White Halls and Greenvalley, in return for us swearing blood debts to later be repaid to all those who aided us in our hour of need
