So this is how Ken decides to manage his time.

Sadly, this option does not give you the free time required to check in on events occurring at school until next week. But it's not like Futaba will get horribly lost in the school library in just three days, so that time can be spent on other things. Like birthday gifts. It all works out pretty nicely, wouldn't you think?

You don't end up leaving the dorm early enough to stop somewhere else before school, because doing the calculations was enough to confirm for you that you'd have to skip breakfast. And you don't think you've willingly missed breakfast since you moved in.

School itself isn't that much different from any other day, of course, and the morning passes by quickly enough, until you go to Akira's classroom for lunch.

Maiko is also there today, which isn't really a surprise anymore. Sometimes she shows up, sometimes she doesn't. "I think someone's been looking around the library," She says, which wouldn't be concerning if you didn't realize how many halls there are to get lost in.

"Really?" You ask. Nobody ever seems to notice anything wrong with the library until you point it out to them. And Maiko and Akira are the only two people you've really told about it.

She nods. "It's a girl with black hair. I dunno what grade she's in- she's really small, but she was also looking at the big books." In other words, the ones that don't quite belong. And while you've seen people that weren't in your little group reading them, you don't think there's anyone that's really done so regularly. "Do you think she knows something?"

"Maybe." Akira looks down at his desk, barely focusing on the food in front of him. "I mean, we found that place, so why shouldn't anyone else?" Of course, you'd found it entirely on accident, and never got around to an in-depth exploration.
As long as no Shadows show up to attack people from it, it should be fine.
It's sort of strange to think about. You used to spend a lot of time in the library, and now you don't, and suddenly someone else has appeared to do the same things that you did.

"Maybe we should go talk to her!" Maiko suggests, her eyes betraying her worry. "If she gets stuck in there..."

Maybe you should. But it'll have to be some other day. "Maybe next week. I'll have to leave right away today."

"Really? Why?" And now they're both curious, which means that you can't get away with not mentioning it.

Not that you were planning to. "It's Mitsuru-san's birthday today. I already have a present for her, I just need some time to pick it up." You don't think it's going to be wrapped, but you never claimed to be good at wrapping gifts to begin with. Or to have anything to wrap it with.
I'm sure she'll be happy with it either way. It should even get past her complete lack of fashion sense.
A card would have been simpler. But then what would you have done with all that money?

"What are you getting her?" And of course you should have expected that question, because once Akira takes an interest in something, he's bound to try and find out all he can about it. A side-effect of all that time he spent in the library- you think he still goes there, sometimes, but you never felt the need to ask about it. After all, where else would he get his books?
Because, you know, it's totally a good idea to get him addicted to stories about his future Persona.
You also don't really know how to explain it, because the connection between a person and a Persona is something you aren't sure you can describe, especially given your own circumstances, and you aren't sure the two of them would really get it otherwise.

Also, you're led to believe that most kids their age don't really appreciate clothing as gifts, so they probably wouldn't fully understand either way. Unless... "It's... a costume. She liked the one I got for Akihiko-san that one time, so..." Just frame it as the fact that it'll look really cool, and you're sure they'll understand immediately.

You then go back to the meal, and all thoughts of the little black-haired girl in the library vanish from your mind completely.

When you go to pick up Mitsuru-san's gift, you get a number of odd looks. You're more-or-less used to them by now, but you guess these people haven't fully gotten used to you yet.

It's not that shocking. You don't imagine they see a lot of business from your age group. "This was for your sister, correct?" You're asked. You're almost surprised they remember, but again, you're probably the only ten-year-old they get business from.

You nod. "Thank you. I'm sure she'll love it." Or, at least, appreciate that an effort has been made. You don't think there's any real chance she'll hate it, but...
It'll be fine. Even if it didn't look as good as it does, she has no fashion sense.
You still can't help but be nervous. Mitsuru-san is an intimidating figure, and it always seems like she has everything... would this even be good enough?

At least her Student Council duties mean she won't be home right away. That's plenty of time for you to try and relax... or do something to make yourself feel better. Something like that.

[ ] Distract yourself with homework. Just because you're ahead of everyone else doesn't mean you can't still learn! (+Knowledge)

[ ] She... wouldn't actually be able to tell if something was wrapped just fifteen minutes before, would she? You could ask for help from anyone who's already home.

[ ] Figuring out all the things you can do with a ball of light isn't a simple task, but it's definitely a good enough distraction.

[ ] You guess you could always take Koromaru for a walk...

Ugh, school.

As the tiebreaker, I have to say, I chose poorly. I'm sorry guys.

I spoke a bit too soon, I guess. Good to see her come into the story again. Now how to get her to meet Morgana...

Ken is going to be watching some strange American movie series about race cars considering what is right about to happen. He doesn't know why, but he feels a strange connection to one of the main characters...

Out of curiosity, was there any foreshadowing that this could happen?

Properly wrapped

Depends on what you mean. If ya mean Futaba being around and possibly getting involved with the library stuff, no. No it wasn't.
Well, we did know she was in Port Island, and we did meet her before, though we didn't think she was that significant. Personally, when we had that choice of 4 of our classmates to talk to, she was one of them, though I would have to go back and check that.

Personally, I was hoping we could show the library to her as a gift.

Edit: I found it!

"A young girl with glasses, who slips basically unseen through the hallways but seems to be observing everyone as closely as possible."

Am I pulling a stretch harder than Mrs. Incredible in assuming that this was Futaba?

Yeah, that's her. I had to be subtle about her being there until somebody noticed, because without her hair being dyed, Nemi doesn't recognize her. He might not have even if her hair was the right color, but that basically meant there was no chance of it. Not helped by the fact that literally nobody in-story can tell her age by looking at her.

So, apparently the only thing that can keep me away from my Switch now is having to rerun Obsidian Mansion. Which I'll probably end up having to do either ten or eleven times. Wonderful.

Now, onto something that involves fewer ghosts, giant Phantomon impersonators, and... falling stuffed animals. By which I mean Ken's schoolwork the day before a boss fight that's on a time limit.

More Worrying Than It Should Have Been
All right. You need to calm down. So what if you don't have the time to stick your present in a fancy package? You're still going to be giving it away, and you think that's the most important part of this.

You need to take your mind off things for a while. You need a distraction. Something that will keep you busy long enough for Mitsuru-san to get home so you can get all of this over with.

Fortunately, you have just the thing! By which you mean homework assignments. You'll have to do them either way, you might as well handle it while you don't have anything else to do. You just... need to concentrate on what's on the page. It's simple enough, you do it all the time, you generally stay a bit ahead on the material...

You try. You sort of manage, for a while, in that you only check your clock to see when Mitsuru-san will be back every five minutes or so instead of every two, but you just can't get yourself to focus properly.
When Maiko-chan is less distracting than a pile of folded-up clothing, I think you might have a problem.
You manage to complete the work, but you aren't sure how much of it really stays with you. You guess you'll just have to see later.

Fighting Shadows, you think, might actually be a lot less stressful than this.

For all your nervousness, Mitsuru-san doesn't majorly react to her gift, at least on the outside. It's hard to tell what she's thinking, if she doesn't fell like talking or using telepathy. But you think she might like it.

At the very least, you know she doesn't hate it, because the temperature is still the same- not particularly hot or cold. And you don't think Junpei-san or Makoto-san have that sort of control over their magic yet. Or that they'd be allowed to practice until they did, given that them accidentally lighting something important on fire would be... bad.

You think she might have wanted to say something later, maybe, but you don't stick around long enough to find out. Not due to not having time or anything, but because she and Akihiko-san just would not stop flirting with each other. Without even noticing they were doing it. Not that you didn't already realize how hopeless they were...
I'm seriously wondering how they even figured out they liked each other to begin with.
Still, you're sure they'll catch on eventually. For now, you are safely out of the range of second-hand embarrassment, and for you, that is definitely the most important part.

"Tomorrow's the full moon." Nemi leans back in his chair, sparing only a passing glance at the calendar. "You'll want to be careful."

"Why?" What's so special about that?

He bites his lip as though unsure about how much he should say. Never mind that you can't think of much information it wouldn't be good for you to know, and the only exceptions are things you can already make a pretty good guess at. "There's... a lot of things that can change how Shadows act. Arcana, the weather... Shadows that are weak to ice don't show up all that much during the winter."

"And... the moon is one of those things?" It's not like the idea of the full moon being important is new, you've read about werewolves before, but you aren't sure how that would translate to fighting Shadows.

Nemi nods. "Around here, the most powerful Shadows only come out around the full moon." So you're going to have to fight something? That's... good to know? But something seems to be missing...

[ ] Why did he never mention this before?

[ ] Just... how powerful are those Shadows, anyway?

[ ] And it's only the full moon that matters?

[ ] ...Is there a reason the view outside the window is almost completely white?

[ ] Why is the closet door slightly open?

[X] ...Is there a reason the view outside the window is almost completely white?

It probably has something to do with the aforementioned full moon, but I'm hoping for an explaination.

Hmm...

[ ] Why did he never mention this before?

Most likely because it wasn't relevant until recently, and not much can be done regarding said information.

[ ] Just... how powerful are those Shadows, anyway?

Should be easy enough for Ken to guess "strong but not too much", since Nemi clearly isn't freaking out about it.

[ ] And it's only the full moon that matters? and [ ] ...Is there a reason the view outside the window is almost completely white?

These would get more valuable information, though I feel like the second more than the first.

[ ] Why is the closet door slightly open?

Certainly weird, but given what it is / where it goes, likely just means Nemi was poking around or dealing with something. Ultimately...

[X] ...Is there a reason the view outside the window is almost completely white?

Either this or "Closet door", the answers should be particularly informative.
