Quest to Become a Hero

[X] Focus solely on doing your work, and competently at that.

We are injured and working at a penalty. Let's be extra careful to compensate.

[] Forest Bear Meat - 1 silver for 3 pounds.
[] Vicious Rabbit Meat - 30 copper for 5 pounds.
[] Ironhide Boar Sausages - 80 copper for a pound.
I'm gonna speculate here for a bit, especially as I didn't see anything said about this after the post. These prices are interesting. The descriptor 'Ironhide' I think is intentional, due to the increased price for a lesser amount of meat. As Ironhide seems to suggest that the boar is difficult to injure with blades weapons and how later the instructor was confused at what our Rabbit (we should name that at some point by the way) was doing mimicking us, I'm going to wager it's not normal for normal Beastmasters' pets to gain skills and that buying that meat would have given a little progress to the rabbit for some kind of defensive skill, and it can only learn skills because it's bonded to us.

[X] Try and glean something from the records while you work, maybe you'll find something interesting?

Barely Avoiding Disaster?
[X] Focus solely on doing your work, and competently at that.

You set to work immediately, reports quickly spread out on the table around the ledger you're beginning to copy and categorize them by date and alphabetically. Even as injured as you are it's a surprisingly easy task, if somewhat painful, as your movements and actions quickly adjust to what you can only describe as an instinct you didn't know you had. Your mind blanks and you almost rigidly go about your work, but before you can really get into the flow that your new instincts seem to be leading towards - shouting from outside disturbs the quiet of your work.

No words are recognizable, but it quickly picks up until an ear piercing wail cuts everything off. Beside the door the guard frowns before unlocking the door and shuffling outside, leaving your small group of scribes behind in utter shock. After a while passes the guard returns with a gloomy expression, slamming and locking the door behind him before turning to you all.

"Just someone resisting a conscription order, no need to worry. It's been resolved."

A frown crosses your face, but you turn back to your work without comment. The kingdom was pretty strict when it came to such actions, so whoever resisted has likely met a rather final punishment...

You let out a short sigh, but carry on with your work, quickly returning that nigh mindless state of copying. You are completely uncertain of the amount of time that passes as you work, but at one point you are startled from your half-trance by something like an instinctual call.

Something about the piece you've just copied seemed to ring bells in your head that it was important, looking down over it again you find an exemption of toll notice for one of the groups traveling through. It's listed for a group of the Knights of Silence led by a Priest by the name Illiad Greyson, curious...

'What are the God of Death's paladins doing in the area, and why did this seem important suddenly? Hmm, I'll make a mental note of it for later.'

You turn back to your work before the guard can get suspicious of your pause, swiftly falling back into the mesmerized state.

---

When you come to you find you've completed all the work on your desk, the other scribes long gone even though more than half of their work seems to still remain. Off to the side the same guard stands utterly still, could he be asleep?

What do you do?
[] Check to see if the guard is awake.
[] Inform the guard your work is done and head to the guild to receive payment.
[] Take a look at the other scribes desks, maybe their work is different, more interesting?
[] Write-in.

Established personal Scholarly Code, sticking to it makes your work easier and better while going against it more difficult and with worse results.

Work is done, time to learn more!

Sounds like we WERE going to just keep our heads down and be a good little scribe, but then Forbidden Scholar piped up about that Illiad Greyson.
As for why that stuck out to us, maybe John here is worried about them coming after him? Personally I'd perfer handing the thing over and being on our way but we stole it so that's potentially our heroic career ended unfortunately.

Another thing to note: we are hungry and should consider eating lunch and feeding our rabbit.

We just heard someone die for resisting a conscription order. I don't want to be caught looking at the others' desks in case that's against the rules. Maybe I'll vote for it if someone comes up with a good excuse if we're caught.

[X] Tell the Guard your going out for a lunch break.
-[X] Use break to feed you and your rabbit.
-[X] Start people watching to see if you can spot any paladins of death.

I figure we could use this time for light rest and observation. Afterwards, we 'finish,' our work and ask how do we deliver the finished paperwork to.

I think it's the end of the day, and all of his work is done.

It's been a while since I've read this quest, but I think something was looking at the MC when he read the forbidden scroll. After that, a lich started moving, and his minions(?) left his island. I think it was implied that the lich was the undying God of Death so I suspect the paladins are looking for whoever was reading the forbidden scroll. I wish we could figure out a way to safely get rid of the thing.

Since it's probably the end of the day, when the MC collects his payment from the Guild, he could ask the receptionist about why she is always working without making people wait. I remember this being a question we were interested in asking whenever there was an opportunity.

I also suggest that we not take another job tomorrow because the MC's fingers needs to heal some more. I suggest that we read up on Elves in the library. The MC is supposed to check in with the Elf healer every day of the week.
