The Restless Dead Want YOU To Fight Necromancy

[X]You have people you're responsible for. You're going to find them, protect them, and keep them safe.
[X]You slept through the entirety of the technological revolution of the 20thcentury and now you're supposed to go back to candles? No, thank you. You're going to make sure none of that knowledge is lost.

[X]You'll stay here, where you have wards and some contacts, and do what you can.

[X]You invite the zombie head inside. You'll need it for rituals.

How do we know the Necromancer won't be able to use any sympathetic magic through the zombie head. Unnecessary risk just let it be locked in a box and hid under a rock until we can set up a quarantine ritual chamber.

I threw saving knowledge in at the last minute on a whim and have no idea how we'll do it, but it does sound like fun - and like Morgan. Y'all are helping me figure out how, mind.

Altruism?
Can't have wealth if there aren't people to make wealth valuable!

Is this about my sympathetic magic comment? I feel like this is about sympathetic zombie head magic comment. Yep.

Well this will be hilarious train wreck to watch, baha!

The only comment I will make about the sympathetic magic head idea is, thank you for the idea. I like ideas. *hums innocently*

Honorable mention goes to the subgoals of being mayor, ensuring some form of democracy, loot, and minions. These will form elements of the story as well.

Saturday 12 May 2001
8:10 AM (Day)

Willpower: 2/4 (strained)
Hunger: 11.3/30 (very hungry)
Power: 4.1

You smile crookedly.

"Come inside, zombie head. Just you, not any of your living or dead friends."

The resistance of the wards disappears, and you take a few more steps towards your house. Everything is working properly, good. You turn and wave to Elena.

"I'll see you tonight!"

She waves back, and takes off back into traffic. You don't envy her.

Kathy greets you at the door, and you blink. She's wearing heavy jeans, hiking boots and a green hoodie under a fleece-lined leather coat a size too big for her, and leather gloves. Combined with the lack of makeup, she's a very different looking girl from last night.

"Going somewhere?"

"As soon as I convince dad we gotta," she agrees, stepping out of your way. You step inside, toe off your shoes, which are very much the worse the wear, and put your borrowed machete down on the table next to the bowl for keys. "If you're a vampire, why don't you need an invitation and why aren't you on fire?"

You turn her way, and find her arms folded and her dark gaze evaluating you closely.

"It's my house. I built it and own it. That negates any problem of invitations. As for being on fire, that's a special talent of mine. Developing it was a surprise and a half, let me tell you." You'd been a vampire for a while by then, and your reflexive fear of catching fire at any moment in direct sunlight took decades to wear off. "Where are you going?"

"It's the zombie apocalypse. We need to get stuff! We need more food, and gas for the generator – we don't need to board up the windows, I guess, but maybe stuff to make a garden in the yard?"

"I'm not going anywhere until I get some sleep," Henderson calls from the other room. "At least two hours, and I still haven't finished calling your cousins. Morning, Morgan. I'd come say hello, but I'm on hold."

"That's fine. How'd things go after we parted ways?"

"I dropped Lisa off at her place okay, and got Wyatt a plane ticket home. He'll land this evening. Deedee said she's on her way." Deedee would be the ex-wife. "So I'm alright. How'd it go at the hospital?"

You consider how to describe it.

"Frustrating, but it could have been worse. I'm going to check in on them tonight."

"Tell dad we have to go shopping or we're going to starve to death."

"We have two full pantries and a wine cellar, I think we'll probably survive," responds her father, in the tones of a man who has said that before.

"We've got mom and Wyatt and whoever else coming over. Morgan, tell him."

You're too tired to deal with this level of enthusiasm, but it's certainly better than tears. Kathy's eyes are still showing signs of her having been crying recently, if you look closely.

Luckily for your ability to improvise, you've already been thinking about shopping plans today, so it's easy to share your opinion on Kathy's disagreement with her father. You need ritual ingredients of decent quality and a machete of your own.

A couple housekeeping notes:
I've changed the hunger/spirit requirements so Morgan's powers will draw from whichever is convenient. So, for instance, Morgan's daywalking will draw from spirit, since that isn't in the negatives. Hopefully this will make things clearer and easier to manage.

Spirit comes from devoted followers, being stylishly badass, and Morgan's small slice of the vampire myth. It's a worship/belief mechanic, basically. You can do what people believe you can do.

Is the 24-hour voting cycle working for folks? I'm on a bit of a roll and I like posting this often, but I could delay it if folks want more time.

Okay, we really need to SLEEP and then get working on rituals. that's why we have humans around, right? And since they're ALREADY going to the store, they should - well, go to the store.

As for where, sorry, kiddo, but going both north and south is going to be too much. So we go to the Commons, or, rather, they do, if they listen, because WALKING is going to be the best idea right now as long as they go prepared.

I don't expect that sending the mortals out to do ritual shopping is likely to do much good. These aren't stores run by and for people who actually know how magic works, we'll likely need to do some substituting and settling for second best based on what's available.

If the mortals are sent out for ritual ingredients, they'll be asked to get a little of everything basic. No decisions needed.

If Morgan goes themself, they will have a chance to find rare and high quality things the mortals would miss.

Saturday 12 May 2001
8:00 PM

Willpower: 3/4 (fine)
Hunger: -12.3/-30 (very hungry)
Spirit: 6.9

You barely remember seeking your own bed, though you seem to have managed to toss Bruce's jacket on a chair rather than sleep in it. You do remember leaving your zombie head downstairs in your ritual room. You have a few minutes before sunset, so you indulge in a hot shower. You flex the fingers on your right hand, freshly healed, and stretch your mind out over the neighborhood, looking at all the humans like little stars, twinkling in the twilight velvet of this otherworld. You don't think there are fewer people alive out there than there were last night, but you weren't really yourself last night. You spent the whole night reacting, and almost eating people.

You emerge from the shower, and spend some time brushing your hair out properly. There are new minds in your household, but no danger. You reach out just enough to glean names. Bob Henderson. Kathy Henderson. Wyatt Henderson. Diana Henderson. Claudia McClelland, and presumably an invisible daughter named, yes, Joyce. There's also a very large Irish wolfhound in her thoughts, Nera. Lisa DeMarco. Grace Horn, but not her sister Abby, and you didn't see Bruce here in Claudia's thoughts either. And… are those people out on your lawn? You look out the window.

Ezra and Zoya Henderson, Ezra's girlfriend Hannah Berry, and Darnell Rivera, another Henderson cousin, are standing near the property line, looking at – well. That is, indeed, a large mess of zombies, dropped like pick-up-sticks over your property line. Missing large quantities of their heads, you note. Someone's been busy.

You'd better get dressed.

There's a bag sitting on the floor by the door, which you investigate. Steel-toed boots, cargo pants, a camouflage jacket, among other things. If you wore this, you and Kathy would match. However, it doesn't really matter whether or not the zombies see you, since they only think you're food when you're moving. You settle on dark jeans, the boots, and a layering of green t-shirts under Bruce's jacket.

Now, you're not just going to react to the large pile of dead zombie fratboys on your front lawn. You are going to remain calm and plan out your night. Calmly.

Please vote by plan. You must choose at least half an hour of martial actions and half an hour of social actions, for practice. You have ten hours. Remember that not everyone is nocturnal.

Martial
[][Martial]Fight some zombies. Those ones on your front lawn must have come from a nearby hotspot. Clear it out. 1 hour.
[][Martial]Guns. Lots of guns. Talk to Elena and make a trip out to her gun collection. 1+ hours.

Diplomacy
[][Diplomacy]Try to get in touch with the US government. You have information they need, and you'd rather they did the work. Who knows how long this would take, but maybe you want to try anyway.
[][Diplomacy]Try to get in touch with the local werewolves. You'd rate them highly in a fight against zombies, and you want to be sure they know you're on the same side. 1 hour.

Stewardship
[][Stewardship]Check on the results of the shopping trip. You won't have many people if you let them starve. ½ hour.
[][Stewardship]Job assignments. You have a lot of people here, and the only way to manage a lot of people is to assign them to manage each other. Hand out work. Make someone else deal with the large pile of zombie corpses. 1 hour.
[][Stewardship]Call your accountant. This is not a good time to be trusting the human stock market with your resources. Also, you want that book on technomancy. ½ hour.
[][Stewardship]Visit the farmer vet. She seemed amenable to setting up a deal for animal blood. 1+ hours.

Learning
[][Learning]Find a teacher. Almost anyone with any skill would know more than you about swordwork and guns. ½ hour.

Intrigue
[][Intrigue]Find the necromancer. Cast a tracking ritual using your links to the necromancer's magic. 2 hours, 2 hunger/spirit.
[][Intrigue]Scout out the university. You want to protect knowledge, and conveniently, one of the foremost centers of knowledge in the world is right next door. Look for trouble and places you could set up wards. 1 hour.
[][Intrigue]Find a box. Your zombie head probably isn't spying on you, but you can't quite get the idea out of your mind. It could use a secure container. Maybe a safe? ½ hour.
[][Intrigue]Explore the town. There are, you are certain, more secrets to discover than a few werewolves. 1-2 hours.

Magic
[X][Magic]Research a spell. Today, you've promised you'll figure out a ritual to cleanse necromantic taint from the victims at the hospital. 2 hours, 2 hunger/spirit. Must be included in today's plan or Morgan will be sad.
[][Magic]Research zombies. A broader survey through your books might give you more ideas about strategies to try. You have a ward against the undead you've never bothered using (for obvious reasons). Maybe you could make it apply only to zombies, if you use your zombie head? You could avoid people needing to camp on your front lawn. 1-3 hours.
[][Magic]Start preparing a new cantrip. Wouldn't it be nice to just be able to make zombies explode or catch fire by looking at them? Indicate time allotted and cantrip name.

Personal
[][Personal]Spend time with your new household. You're going to be relying on them, and you barely know any of them. Work on fixing that. ½ hour to 1 hour.
[][Personal]Remember to eat.
-[]Ask a member of your household to oblige you. 15 minutes.
-[]Needs must. Pop out into the woods and hunt down some animals. 15 minutes.
[][Personal]Relaxation time. Listen to music, read a book, go walk in the woods and look at the creek. 1 hour, regenerates willpower.

[][Write-in]Must include amount of time/power required and any associates invited along.

--[X] [Write-in] Assign one member of your household to do a rough first-search of your books to save you time. We probably don't need books that focus soley on horticulture right now, f'rinstance. (part of assigning tasks, above; probably the college kid)

-[X][Magic]Research a spell. Today, you've promised you'll figure out a ritual to cleanse necromantic taint from the victims at the hospital. 2 hours, 2 hunger/spirit. Must be included in today's plan or Morgan will be sad.

You have a ward against the undead you've never bothered using (for obvious reasons). Maybe you could make it apply only to zombies, if you use your zombie head? -[X][Personal]Remember to eat.
--[X]Ask a member of your household to oblige you. 15 minutes.
-[X][Personal]Relaxation time. Listen to music, read a book, go walk in the woods and look at the creek. 1 hour, regenerates willpower.

Okay, so, this is Morgan's Territory. They're going to have to work outward from their home base, but the more they know about these things -- how they fight, for one, anything in the books -- the better off they'll be.

And these are Morgan's People. So Morgan is going to have to focus on taking care of them, which includes their emotional well-being.

I'd love to send a household member to talk to the werewolves but this seems like a bad idea.

-[X][Diplomacy]Try to get in touch with the local werewolves. You'd rate them highly in a fight against zombies, and you want to be sure they know you're on the same side. 1 hour.
-[X][Stewardship]Check on the results of the shopping trip. You won't have many people if you let them starve. ½ hour.
-[X][Stewardship]Job assignments. You have a lot of people here, and the only way to manage a lot of people is to assign them to manage each other. Hand out work. Make someone else deal with the large pile of zombie corpses. 1 hour.
-[X][Stewardship]Call your accountant. This is not a good time to be trusting the human stock market with your resources. Also, you want that book on technomancy. ½ hour.

-[X][Intrigue]Find a box. Your zombie head probably isn't spying on you, but you can't quite get the idea out of your mind. It could use a secure container. Maybe a safe? ½ hour.
-[X][Magic]Research a spell. Today, you've promised you'll figure out a ritual to cleanse necromantic taint from the victims at the hospital. 2 hours, 2 hunger/spirit. Must be included in today's plan or Morgan will be sad.
-[X][Magic]Research zombies. A broader survey through your books might give you more ideas about strategies to try. You have a ward against the undead you've never bothered using (for obvious reasons). Maybe you could make it apply only to zombies, if you use your zombie head? You could avoid people needing to camp on your front lawn. 1 hour 45 minutes
-[X][Personal]Spend time with your new household. You're going to be relying on them, and you barely know any of them. Work on fixing that. ½ hour
-[X][Personal]Remember to eat.
--[X]Ask a member of your household to oblige you. 15 minutes.

-[X][Personal]Relaxation time. Listen to music, read a book, go walk in the woods and look at the creek. 1 hour, regenerates willpower.

[X]Plan Setting Up

I think aldersprig's plan doesn't use all 10 hours? I'm assuming here that e.g. "1-3 hours" means we get to choose how many hours we're using, which must be between 1 and 3, and that leaving unused hours has no benefit.

We don't have anything incredibly urgent right now (well, apart from the ongoing zombie apocalypse), so taking the time to feed and regen is good, I think. I'm not entirely certain that putting away the zombie head is worth Morgan's time, but it's just half and hour and we really don't want zombie heads coming alive and eating people, just in case.

Fair! Mine goes 7 hours 45 min -- 9 hours 45 minutes, and I'd say the more time we spend on finding a solution, the better off we'll be tomorrow.

I'll assess any left over time to willpower regeneration. We're gonna need it.
