Gestalt (Human Group Mind in WH40K)

never saw the tau get depicted as having death camps
Tau care about PR a lot. Their sterilization camps achieve the exact same thing (genocide) with slightly less harmful PR.
Don't own a smart phone so am not sure if this would work but would it be possible to write up the update on a site you can use on your laptop then copy paste it using your smartphone to put it on SV?
Yes, it is a bit clunky but doable via USB connection to the phone. (typical charger cables happen to be usb cables themselves so you can just plug them into the computer instead of power outlet and do that)

you can email it to yourself then copy paste if you don't use the other methods I recommended
He has no internet access on the laptop. So he can't email it from it. would have to use tethering to give internet to the laptop, or direct file transfer.

That being said, they could just take it easy and take some time off. that will be fine too.

He does, if you read the post again, he says he does but sv is blocked. That is why I recommended opening a google/word doc and copy pasting / emailing and copy pasting onto his phone to post on sv, or using tor or a free vpn like hotspotshield or similar to get to the site on the laptop anyways, or you could simply put the personal hotspot on your phone on, if your phone and carrier support it.

Oh, so it is. My bad there

Why not connect your phone internet to your laptop that's what I do when I'm away from the internet. Just go to settings->more->mobile network sharing->portable Wi-Fi hotspot->then the on/off button also in that area you'll see the password to get into it. But it does drain your credit if you use it for stuff with larger data usage like online games and the like.

A brief update on the status of this quest: I'll return home on the 15th of April. Gestalt will then resume, starting on the 16th of April.

EDIT/ As you've probably noticed, this quest is now active again.

Belated thanks for your helpful suggestions, but to tell the truth, for the last few months I was (and as of right now, still am) simply too busy with work to manage this quest as well. That will soon change, however.
Thanks for letting us know, and its all cool. If you are too busy you are too busy. IRL comes first.
Also glad to hear you will be coming home soon and might have the time then. Can't wait to see more of this quest. Thanks

The Imperial Dropship Arrives - 40,114 CE, McMurdo
Over the course of several weeks, the Imperial dropship slowly but surely creeps closer to planet McMurdo.

The icy wind awaits them.

Meanwhile on the planet, you batten down the hatches and prepare to hide as well as humanly possible. The functioning of the camouflage system is checked, then checked again. All outside operations are restricted to when the planet's rotation takes you out of the dropship's line of sight... though in all likelihood they wouldn't be able to see you at this distance even if you were less careful.

Still, better safe than sorry. Eventually, your mining expeditions return to the Reliant, and any outside activities cease completely.

You're not quite sure what to expect when the Imperials arrive... Is it a scouting mission hunting for you, but as of yet unaware of your exact location? Is the ship secretly filled with genetically engineered super soldiers just waiting for the chance to assault the den of heretics they'd surely consider you to be?

The truth, as it turns out, is far less exciting. The imperial dropship enters orbit, releases a few surface observation satellites - primitive and crude compared to yours, and reassuringly lacking in advanced sensor equipment or stealth systems - and eventually lands at a location close to the equator, but still several thousand kilometers away from your little settlement.

Your ability to observe them by far exceeds their chance to locate you (which, as far as you can tell, is minimal) and the weather remaining clear for now means your sensors aren't obstructed by cloud cover. As far as you can tell, the Imperials are exploring the area immediately surrounding their landing site, but there doesn't seem to be any concerted search operation for an archaic ship full of fugitives, or even any search for anything specific at all, for that matter.

Nor does the dropship's crew appear to be prepared for any real combat operations. There seem to be about two hundred of them, and they're armed, of course, but they seem to have brought just a few lightly armed scouting rovers and snow crawlers, and no real combat vehicles. In fact, this looks almost like what might pass for "civilian" in a society as militarized as the Imperium appears to be from the admittedly quite scarce information you have on them.

And before long you're listening in on transmissions to and from their scouting parties. They aren't even encrypted, as it turns out, and there's no sign that you might be missing anything.

You've heard the hymns to the God Emperor's glory being broadcasted all over the Sol System, and thus you now what they sound like when they're being reverential. You've heard the harsh challenges and instructions of the Imperial Navy directed at you, and so you know the tone they take when confrontational. And after listening in on these uninvited guests and their transmissions for weeks, you are now likewise familiar with the sound of Imperial Gothic as spoken by people who happen to be remarkably bored.

Turns out it's just a bog-standard exploration mission. Looking for new planets to colonize, presumably. You're gonna take a wild stab at this and say that McMurdo isn't gonna make it on the list for closer consideration.

Coincidence. That's all this was. They're not here for you, they're just coincidentally exploring this planet while you happen to be on it. The realization is accompanied by a genuine sense of relief flooding through Eris. Some nagging suspicion that it might be a deception of some sort remains at first, but as each day and each bit of new observational data only confirms that what you're looking at is exactly what it appears to be, your remaining concerns gradually subside.

After a few weeks, the dropship takes off, spends a few days in orbit, then lands at another location a few hundred kilometers away. The crew then continues their survey, traveling by snow crawler and even by foot. There's no sign of any of the advanced observational equipment the Federation Surveyor Corps would have used, or even the considerably more limited means you'd utilize. It all seems horribly inefficient to your eyes... but even so, eventually they will get the job done. If the Imperials are, as it seems, here to learn what this planet is like, whether there are any natural resources that aren't immediately apparent, etc, etc, then presumably they'll gain a reasonably accurate and comprehensive understanding after another 2 to 3 years of this. Or a more rough understanding after a few months, if they're willing to settle for that.

The question is, what should you do about them, if anything?

[ ] Just wait them out. You'll have to cease your resource harvesting operations, meaning industrial production will more or less come to a halt, and a small risk of discovery will remain, but there's no need for anything more extreme. Your research, development, and rejuvenation treatments will continue to proceed normally.
-[ ] Wait them out, but don't completely cease your resource harvesting operations. Just try to be subtle about it. Reduced industrial efficiency, low to moderate risk of discovery.
[ ] Don't even bother hiding. Keep operating your industry normally. Fairly significant chance of accidental discovery, but still far from a sure thing. No penalty to industry.
-[ ] Contact them. Pretend to be some isolated group of lost colonists. It's not like they're going to know who you are, right?
[ ] No Imperials permitted in your sky! Next time they lift off into orbit to change location, you'll have some surprises waiting for them...
-[ ] Some of your satellites will be repurposed into KKVs. Target their engines. Their dropship will crash, and you'll send your forces to capture any survivors.
-[ ] Forget about subtlety! Just lift off with the Reliant and blast them into space dust. If they try to run, chase them down, then blast them into space dust.
[ ] Write-In.

3 Years of non-productivity is a small price to pay for a better chance at a great many more years of secrecy.

Besides, R&D will still be going, so its not like the man hours will be wasted.

We can pass the time by singing 99 bottles through the hive mind, so our followers will be able to hear it where they hide, it will be like we're right there, next to them, for years:whistle:

This is a good opportunity for us. Such as small scouting group probably doesn't even have access to astropaths or navigators. Let's try and add them to the Gestalt.

[X] Hide for now but see if you can add them to the Gestalt.

I'm thinking if we can grab an isolated person or two we can see if we can link them up. Low population is probably our biggest bottleneck and this is a great opportunity to get rid of it. Besides if we want to ever gain any kind of relevance in the galaxy we'll need to learn how to recruit people into the Gestalt.
