The small creature sits on its hind legs as you drum your fingers upon the Compendium in your lap.
…It is clearly of a magical nature, that much you can tell. Perusing your magical senses gives you nothing of value, as you only see a faint if persistent presence amidst the myriad of human souls around you.
You are distinctly wary of it. Teleportation and psychic capabilities? Not something to be easily trifled with. Is it sentient, or is it driven purely by bestial urges? Then, does it want something particular from you?
Glancing around the confined space you are in, you see no one particularly cares for its bizarre and out-of-place presence. Most of the humans have their smartphones out, enthralled by its diminutive screen. A pang of envy runs through you, and you get the distinct desire to uncover the device's secrets.
Deciding they have the right idea, you proceed to ignore the being's existence.
Its large and luscious tail starts swaying behind its body, and you feel another metaphorical knock on your mental barriers.
My words aren't reaching you… Interesting.
You pay it no heed as you close your eyes and relax into the hard plastic chair. A sigh escapes you, not out of weariness, merely out of respite. You had been worried this world contained threats that would necessitate you bring your full might to bear against them, but after hours upon hours of searching, you uncovered nothing of the sort.
Is it intentional? What manner of being are you?
Certainly, you have found various matters worth investigating further, like Mami Tomoe, the dark entity you defeated, or the
nuisance at your feet; but they aren't something that is worth making a fuss about.
You aren't disappointed. Of course you aren't. Why would you even consider that?
Opening your eyes with your mood suitably soured, you glance down to see the creature is still staring at you.
Are you even human? You don't feel like one…
It is persistent. You will concede that much.
The landscape outside changes as you progress through the city, and you manage to spot glimpses of a river as the towering steel buildings stop appearing everywhere you look.
Suddenly springing into motion, the creature bolts from the floor towards Mami on your right, making her jump in surprise as it lands in her lap.
"A-Ah." Recovering from her shock, she glances down to see it making itself comfortable on top of her. A smile blossoms into her face, giving life to her previously vacant expression.
Hello Mami. How has your day been?
So she is acquainted with it? Curious…
Other than smiling more genuinely, she doesn't acknowledge its presence in any noticeable way, the human male seated next to her not even looking over in the direction of the white animal.
Does it have some means to make itself invisible to regular humans? Is its appearance such an ordinary occurrence that they seemingly don't concern themselves with it? You don't remember Margaret mentioning something like it on your lessons concerning the real world…
Who's your friend? She's very interesting.
It turns its head in your direction, Mami glancing at you in unison. You don't acknowledge their looks, being too busy appreciating the view to care.
The river ends a few moments later, and you hear the sound of what you believe to be the vehicle's breaking mechanisms as the train slows down.
As soon as it stops and the doors open, the flood of people begins exiting the vehicle at a hurried pace.
You stand quickly, glad to have arrived at your destination.

Following Mami's wake as she traverses through streets that seem familiar to her, you survey the area her home is apparently located in.
The fuzzy white feline-like creature is now perched on Mami's shoulders, its plush tail circling around her neck as she hums a song you fail to recognize, a pensive expression on her face.
Much less tall edifices litter the environment, the occasional two-storied building amid the expansive metropolis. The ambiance you grasp as you glance about is considerably less exciting than the one you felt throughout the main city.
At last, you arrive at a reasonably generic… apartment? Is that what Mami called it? In any case, she gestures at its glass doors as they open on their own at your approach and she enters, making you follow suit without issue.
The first floor appears to be some kind of reception room, a plain painting, and a sofa are the only items that furnish it, and you ignore them as Mami heads for a pair of metal doors at the side of the relatively large chamber.
She presses a button in a panel located at its side, causing them to slide open.
Ah. You know what this device is. It's an elevator.
You both enter as Mami presses another button and the doors slide closed, the unusual feeling of ascending without your direct input rather uncomfortable for you.
Such strong potential…
Paying no attention to the creature's unblinking stare, you hold your Grimoire close to your body as the elevator halts and you fill out with no haste.
The narrow hallway you emerge into is open to the outside, a glass railing demarking its end. You pass through a few doors before Mami stops at a particular one, her name placed on a plaque at the wall. She takes out a card that she displays on a receptor of some kind, and she turns to give you a smile as she somehow unlocks the door and enters.
Her residence is… ordinary? You know you lack a frame of reference to compare it to, but there is nothing extraordinary that immediately springs to you as you look through the inside.
"Make yourself at home," Mami tells you as she takes her own shoes off, placing them on a mat next to the entrance. "Are you hungry? I'll start preparing dinner in a bit." She says as the apparently very agile white feline jumps off her shoulders, lazily heading for the central table as it leaps once again to climb atop it.
You decide mimicking her actions is in your best interests, not certain on her motivations in remaining barefoot inside her own home. Questioning her on it would only needlessly complicate matters.
You notice stairs for a second floor in the apartment, Mami heading for a door next to them. You decide the sofa is suitable for now, so you walk over and primly sit upon it, laying your Grimoire by your side.
The animal circles the table it is on, tilting its head at you as it resumes its staring. You briefly wonder how those golden rings remain in place.
How unfortunate. Being able to communicate with you would make things much easier.
A nudge at your mental walls makes you frown at the creature. Rude.
