Of course Root was brought up. OF COURSE! It's suppose to be secret or at least on a Need to Know basis. Comment below mentioned mom being a Root member. I'm still against it being mentioned as it's just so irritating to have a secret group openly mentioned.

Random nobodies mentioning Root at all really just sets me on edge.

Probably has a few pluses and a few minuses. Threw off our legitimate rescuers but probably also did the same to a lot of our... illegitimate 'rescuers'. It gave us time. Even if that was just time for one Aburame to live, I'm glad for it.

Interesting. Our mother is one of Roots most vital moving parts, though not an indoctrinated one. Which makes sense since there hasn't yet been time for children to go through the FULL process Danzo ended up inventing. Hell, he has only had a bare fistful of years to do anything.

So... Danzo dies and we put mom in charge of Village black ops?

I... honestly, I don't believe that our group of children were competent enough to remove all traces of our travel/our leaving. Especially not well enough to fool trained Hunter Nin from the same village who would no doubt be familiar with our practices, and what any of us might have been taught.

The only thing that could make me believe there was no trace of us leaving is if Zetsu has been hanging around, following us, and cleaning our tracks so that no one finds us.

Or any other group crawling up that particular hullabaloo and deciding they wanted to remove some competition. Or the Hokage is actively lying, which might actually be sensible here.

If its Zetsu, that might even be a good thing? Zetsu doesn't want distractions from the proper 'Bring Back Mama' plan and Madara very much is getting distracted.
 
If I were the Hokage I'd lie to the parents' faces in order to disseminate disinformation to my enemies.

Even a little doubt on the part of enemy, or allied, hunters would help the children and give more time for my own to find them.

With a variety of important and valuable subjects, secrecy is key.

Or, my personal guess is that two groups hunting for us met each other at the site and fought over the right to examine the evidence.

....destroying the evidence by the time one of them got chased off.
 
...I just had a hilariou idea.

The reason we haven't seen enemy hunter nin teams isn't that they don't know where we are, its that they've been killing each other off without us noticing.

The reason there are no tracks is because one of the groups following us will clean up after us to try and keep others off our tail so they can be the ones to take us. And probably getting killed in the process

And since pretty much no one seems to want us dead -- especially now that we're down to mostly clan kids -- a hunter nin team would need to clear out the other teams around us to extract us.

This is especially true since no matter what way we go for the moment it's further into enemy territory. Hell, Iwa (and maybe Suna) could even be using this as an opportunity to bleed other villages of these teams since they're the closest to home allowing them be reinforced relatively easily. It's not too likely, but they might

Except that village law requires them to be informed, and we're more than early enough in its history for deliberate breach of trust to a clan head to carry serious risk of breaking the village apart.

On another note, a month? I didn't think it'd been anywhere near that long. I thought each of our turns was about a day long, not two weeks. Are you telling me we only have time to talk to three people a week? That seems...off.

We were kidnapped four weeks ago and escaped two weeks ago, each turn after our escape being a week later.

I rounded up to a month because it was near the beginning the last month when we were kidnapped.

This omake was taking place at the same time as our turn right now.

Edit: most of the time we have been traveling in stealth, remaining quiet and not talking to anyone.

When we are doing the actions and talking to a friend, it is when we are safe and are not on the move.

Don't like the Taijutsu but I do like the spreading our time with others part.

Aren't there some really, really small Villages out there? I mean, Hoshigakure just founded itself a stone's throw in the past and it barely even counted as a Village fifty years in the future. Founding a Village seems like the sort of thing that requires fifty bucks and a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Some of the "hunter teams" have to be outright comical.

Well, what better way to get prestige and recognition from the major villages then to find the kids who've been kidnapped and hold them for a Kings ransom?

That kind of finance and diplomatic clout can really build up a village.

The other interpretation to 'every Village but one is looking for us' is ONE VILLAGE HAS ALREADY FOUND US AND THUS DOESN'T NEED TO LOOK.

This is the countdown to clown-town, everybody onto the crazy train. Check your sanity at the gate...
