Quest to Become a Hero

I guess it's so late at night that hurrying to find a room doesn't matter so much. Maybe the clerk can give us advice on where we could sleep this late at night?

[X] Go claim your reward at the Guild.

Is the Guild Receptionist a Stalker?
[X] Go claim your reward at the Guild.

'... Sadly it is a rather horrible idea to stay here now that I think about it, I likely just got a kid fired and people are rather unpredictable. best to just go get my reward and then work out where to stay afterwards.'

Once more you sigh, something you've been doing a fair amount of lately now that you think about it, before leaving the crowded inn entirely. As you head outside you are greeted by the sight of a full moon overhead, pale white light shining down and making the scenery around you appear rather serene despite the bustle of a town in it's prime. Your walk back to the Guild is rather relaxing and you would even go so far as to say it was enjoyable day if it weren't for the person standing behind the counter as you enter.

'Why in the name of the Gods is it this lady AGAIN!? Either this a series of coincidences for the century, or this lady is just a creepy stalker. No, you know what? I'm just going to ignore it, don't give her attention and it won't escalate... maybe.'

After pausing for what was probably too long in the doorway you head towards the counter, concerned that no one else is actually here even though it honestly makes sense given few people are willing to work at night. You barely reach the counter before she extends her hand towards you, her charming voice filling your ears as you desperately try not to think about the possibly creepy lady.

"Excellent work Mr. Stitch, we have already received confirmation of your work from the requester as well as his wish to increase your monetary reward. In total that will mean your final payment is two silvers, fifty guild points, and another point to your rank advancement. If you will give me a moment to add that onto your card please."

It takes just a few seconds for her, or whatever it is that handles it, to add the rewards to your card before she quickly hands it back to you with a radiant smile. Absolutely not reminiscent of a serial killer, definitely not.

"And there you go, thank you for your hard work. Please continue to maintain such quality work in the future to further the Guild's name."

You stutter out an agreement as you step away from the counter, store your card once again, and begin thinking about what to do. Sleeping is all fine and good, but maybe you could manage another job before that?

What do you do now?

They Who Seek the Crown (Level One, 10/25) - A title earned by gaining the blessing of the God of War in a chance encounter with his will. It is a boon granted to those who seek to become like Lords, towering above the world with every action and word capable of bringing great waves of change. Currently it is weak and only grants you the power of Domination, but if you grow stronger and perform in a way that meshes with this Boon then perhaps its strength can grow.
Heroes can be Thieves Right? - In the name of Heroism you stole classified information from the Church of War without being caught. Now no innocent souls shall be ended with this dangerous knife, but ... yours might be if you mess up? Slightly increased chance of learning stealth and thievery related skills until discovered, lost if the Sealed Scroll is destroyed.

Ethical Scholar - A scholar's duty is that of facts, numbers, honesty, and boundaries. You have a devotion to the work of the written word that few would follow in the face of potential benefits. You seek simply to perform your work to the best of your ability and stand within the morals of your scholar code, even find yourself compelled to do so. Established personal Scholarly Code, sticking to it makes your work easier and better while going against it more difficult and with worse results.
  • Scholar Code I - No work is better than hasty work. {Provides +2 to scholarly rolls when followed, take -2 to scholarly rolls when ignored.}
  • Scholar Code II - Provide the facts to those that hire you, nothing more and nothing less. {Provides 2 bonus experience when followed, lose 2 experience when ignored.}

[X] Go find an inn and get some sleep before coming back here.

Creepy bitch is creepy I say.

Hmm, judging from the bloody tag I think we're actually encouraged to question about everything and anything.

So with that in mind, I'll bite. My theory is that this bitch is either:

a) A Psychopath who wants to kill us. Because we're newbies or because she's jealous seeing us with a winning streak reminding her in her childhood age when she couldn't even properly feed herself. Eventually, forming as an urge to have some petty revenge.

b) She's from that Burning Cock Inquisition that somehow by some means know that we have their former enemy's pornstash. So she is ordered to try to kill us. But that does not add up. Because she's already with us from the start of the Quest. The other explanation is that she's a sleeper agent. But that also doesn't add up, 'cuz if she is then she could've killed us the moment we entered the room. Keep in mind the building is empty and nobody would've bat an eyelashes if she does try cap our bouncy ass.

c) She's a Lahmia/Vampire/Undead Lich/Succubus that wants to kill us for convinience's sake/amusent/suck us dry(in more ways that one ;)).

Hrm, Gimme a second to check through the Quest but uhh...
It seems to me before we hop on the paranoia train we consider that she might very well just be a full-time worker as a Receptionist.
But lemme create an analysis of her:
She appears to be a young blonde with sparkling green eyes.
Both times we've seen her she's been the receptionist at that desk all day. She also apparently either enjoys her job quite a bit or has a solid work ethic...However...
As far as I can tell, and I'm not entirely sure of time-stamps, we see her fairly early in the morning and late in the evening, which doesn't necessarily preclude the notion that in the afternoon she goes on break. Plus we haven't actually visited the Guild two days in a row I think, given that it seems to be the case that we stayed overnight in the first Quest.
...
Incidentally? Larry was resigned to getting found out from the get-go at the very least. when we first met him he literally said "Good luck finding something wrong with my work." For all that he's described as angry and rude and even intercepted us as we were leaving the office? He had more then enough oppertunity to try something but didn't. Hrrm.

[X] Go find an inn and get some sleep before coming back here.

Perhaps we have someting of a nurse joy thing going on? You know a large family that just looks uncannily similar

[X] Confront the receptionist about this weird, vaguely creepy behavior

The Guild uses golems/homunculi as 24/7 receptionists?

Anyway, I have an idea for how I want to test our Dominate Writing skill. @adwarf does our writing kit include blank parchments, or do we have to buy some? I was thinking we could look for a Botany book in the Guild Library tomorrow morning, copy down the entry on Golden Leaf (specifically the best way to harvest it), and then Dominate our copy so there's no risk to something with a cost. If the Domination gives us an advantage to Golden Leaf Harvesting, then we can take the appropriate quest.

A Dream?
[X] Go find an inn and get some sleep before coming back here.

You decide to throw aside the idea of confronting this weird receptionist for the time being. It was quite an odd chain of coincidences certainly, but there are countless possible reasons for her constant appearance whenever you arrive that aren't as odd as those you were jumping to just a little while ago. You shake your head and swear to stop letting the various fictional works you read in the earlier years of your schooling lead you to absurd claims... most likely absurd claims. Hopefully.

It takes quite a while to find an inn that isn't already full in town surprisingly enough, but when you do the cost for a room and breakfast turns out to only be twenty-five coppers altogether. You rejoice at the cheap price, pay, and quickly make your way to your room where you find yourself almost instantly passing out once your head touches the pillow.

---

'... This place feels familiar. A blank void with a multicolored flame at its heart, and is that a golden crown flying around it? Wait... that's different, why is there a golden book revolving around the crown now?'

At first your thoughts are vague, your mind moving slowly as you slowly realize that you've once again returned to the dream space you encountered after receiving the God of War's blessing though something about this feels different. More permanent almost, as if the last time you were here simply as a spectator and now you're a....

'Why the hell am I feeling like a guest in my own dream? It's almost like this space doesn't belong to me, but that makes no sense.'

Before you can delve deeper into the discrepancy you feel something encroach into your thoughts, an unbeatable will carrying with it the desire to achieve greatness and stand before all in this world as a legend. As a Hero without equal. Despite having no physical form as far as you can tell, your entire body explodes into pain as the will burrows deeper into your existence with an unyielding and uncaring disposition that brings you to the brink of madness while information seems to flood into your mind from every conceivable angle.

'Or whatever passes for such in this world.'

It might be minutes, hours, or even days that the pain acts as if to tear you apart, your sense of time distorted by the influx of knowledge and the sheer suffering that is born from accepting it in such a crude, inflexible manner. When at last it recedes and your mind comes clear you find yourself looking at multicolored words floating in the space before you,

"In each era Heroic Spirits are born, they carve out paths that lead to greatness and world shattering change and then vanish once more with only the legacies of their wielders left behind for the masses to witness. To possess a Heroic Spirit is to be destined for greatness, to be possessed by a Heroic Spirit is to be fated to suffer. However, it is never one sided - with a Heroic Spirit one is certain to live forever in the glory they obtain, they must simply forge their tale and be rewarded."

Reading those words seems to trigger something in the memories left in your own mind as you suddenly come to understand a few simple rules.

  1. A Heroic Spirit's vessel must forever strive towards greater heights, a Hero is never created from nothing.
  2. If a Vessel achieves something of note, an act that would contribute to their legend, then the Spirit will grant them a chance for power.
  3. When a Vessel obtains a new level the Spirit will reward them with yet more potential power.
  4. A Vessel must never willingly reveal it's existence as one.
  5. A Vessel must hold no attachment to life, even death can forge a legacy.
Shortly after processing those rules the words in front of you quickly shift before taking on a new form.

Vessel has earned one Heroic Legacy Point for reaching Level 2. Vessel has earned four Heroic Legacy Points for obtaining the blessing of a Greater Being of this Era. Vessel has earned one Heroic Legacy Point for establishing a code of honor unique to themselves.

Rather than feeling confusion at these sentences you simply will a single sentence towards the multicolored flame, the Heroic Spirit burning within you.

'Display available Heroic Legacy purchases, please.'

Almost immediately after that thought the words comprised of countless colors explode before rapidly reforming into a window listing several categories, the last few of which seem to be locked as even their names are blurred out...
