[X] Bring it to the attention of the big guy at the bar who you now realize is the owner.
If we're gonna do more jobs like this then bringing this to his attention should improve our reputatoon greatly as you have an established record of good work in this field.
Even if we steal sacred documents from the state church, we understand that True Heroes never betray the highest moral authority in the land: The CPA Code of Ethics.
[X] Bring it to the attention of the big guy at the bar who you now realize is the owner.
You sigh before picking up your version of the ledgers and the incriminating sheet before heading out of the office into the hall, it is a scholar's duty to be impartial and simply explain the facts to those they need to. It is not your place to intervene and yet as you enter the hallway you find the brat Larry staring you down which causes a seed of anxiety to form in your mind only to be ruthlessly crushed by the boy's lack of a weapon and even more so his own words.
"Since you were willing to take the job I really doubt you're incompetent enough to miss it, it's fine I guess. I knew I would get caught eventually, but... well. I have my reasons, I just wanted to tell you before I went ahead and revealed it to the Boss myself. Gunard might look like a dumb mountain of meat, but it is far from the truth. So annoying..."
Having finished what he wanted to say Larry turned around and yelled down the hall,
"Hey Boss, come here for a second. Henry go man the bar for a bit!"
You watch it all in utter silence, your free hand reaching down into the pocket of your robes where the knife rests and quickly clenches around the hilt. It doesn't take long for a man to hurry out of the kitchen and out to the bar followed quickly by the muscular bartender, Gunard, walking down the hall towards the two of you with that same smile on his face. Larry waves at him before entering the office and the two of you enter a moment after though this time you stand off to the side while Gunard makes his way behind the desk to sit down.
After staring across the top of it for a while directly at the strangely calm Larry he finally turns to you, the smile gone from his face.
"If I was a bettin' man I'd say I was right and you found something in the ledgers. Mind walkin me through your work?"
You give a small nod before bringing over the sheet of paper and placing it down onto the table, numbers written down neatly and in uniform tables with the troubling parts circled for emphasis.
"When I went through your ledgers I found a lot of the usual, some minor unaccounted losses that are likely the result of food spoilage, wastage, and such. Of course, the majority of the work was immaculate, or appeared to be until I noticed a trend start about six months ago where the amount spent on surplus food supplies suddenly increased by fifty silver. I didn't expect anything at first when the numbers went back to normal the next week, but it was quickly apparent that a pattern formed.
Every two weeks since then, without fail, fifty silver worth of spending increases would appear under various expenses, a decent enough method to hide it really except you happened to get someone taught to identify corruption in territorial economic ledgers to check them. I'm not sure where the money went since its clearly not diverted anywhere else in the ledgers, but I am certain someone took it.
Of course, when I was coming to explain this I met Larry here who confessed to being the perpetrator. Do you need me to run you through anything?"
Gunard sits in silence for several long moments, his sight drifting to Larry with what you are certain is a piteous look, before he lets out a protracted sigh.
"No, your work is excellent and i ain't bout to doubt a scholar with as good a bearin as yourself. Thank you John, as a bonus for how well you've done I'll tell the guild to double the silver. Now if you would I got words to have with Larry here."
You nod before turning to leave, casting one side glance at Larry and shaking your head before leaving. Well, that was not what you were expecting out of the job, but it's done now. As it would turn out though it's well into night by now, the dining area of the bar filled to the brim with people drinking and reveling after a hard day's work, a feeling you wish you could imitate though given the circumstances...
No point dwelling on it, time to figure out if you want to head back to the Guild now, or just rent a room here for the night. Not like anyone can take your reward at this point and you'd just have to hunt down a place to sleep if you went to the guild anyway.

Titles: They Who Seek the Crown (Level One, 10/25) - A title earned by gaining the blessing of the God of War in a chance encounter with his will. It is a boon granted to those who seek to become like Lords, towering above the world with every action and word capable of bringing great waves of change. Currently it is weak and only grants you the power of Domination, but if you grow stronger and perform in a way that meshes with this Boon then perhaps its strength can grow. Heroes can be Thieves Right? - In the name of Heroism you stole classified information from the Church of War without being caught. Now no innocent souls shall be ended with this dangerous knife, but ... yours might be if you mess up? Slightly increased chance of learning stealth and thievery related skills until discovered, lost if the Sealed Scroll is destroyed.
Ethical Scholar - A scholar's duty is that of facts, numbers, honesty, and boundaries. You have a devotion to the work of the written word that few would follow in the face of potential benefits. You seek simply to perform your work to the best of your ability and stand within the morals of your scholar code, even find yourself compelled to do so. Established personal Scholarly Code, sticking to it makes your work easier and better while going against it more difficult and with worse results.
Scholar Code I - No work is better than hasty work. {Provides +2 to scholarly rolls when followed, take -2 to scholarly rolls when ignored.}

I think that is meant to be perpetrator. You also use "bearin" as brain, although I understand what you were going for with the accent, those words don't sound alike.

Fixed, thanks for pointing it out. As for bearin, it's used for bearing since you've conducted yourself in an polite and amicable manner this entire time as well as the fact that you're dressed almost exactly the same as most clerks and other such mentally focused workers under the town Lord's management.
