Strange Tides

Stunned, all in attendance looked over to the Lady of House Alexis who had begun to fidget under the attention. "Indeed, my lord. Culsans has sent me dreams and led me to the knowledge to fulfill your wishes." No one dared to interrupt the scene, and only when the statue waved with the hammer for her to proceed did she speak on. "On a shore of a lake in the north-west, the land is cracked and filled with foul air. A deep heat wells from within the earth, and strange creatures inhabit these lands that no man dares to approach. Here a forge could be raised for you, my lord, though the land would have to be claimed by us first and the monsters inhabiting it cast out. Still, it would take a mighty working of the divine to see the flames kindled, for they are weak and deep below."

With a curt nod, the statue acknowledged her words, then she spoke on. "To the south, the Woodsfolk lives. Their home was once of fire and smoke, but they tamed it, quelled it. It takes them power to keep it subdued, but so are they drawing power from the flames' futile licking at their works. Were they to be cast down, the fire would find its freedom quickly. For many years they have settled there, so long that man only recalls in legend of the time when it was flames that rules their lands. But Culsans was clear to me that their rule is not forever. With spear and blade, they can be cast down. By word and bribery, they could be turned to abandon their homes. And when they are gone a forge be erected in your name, my lord."
It deserves to be noted that we get 2 choices on where we can build the forge and what we have to do, or at least that's the impression this gave me. Either the crack in the earth in the monster infested badlands, or dealing with the Fae.

Everyone, please don't make a rash deal with a God. Please?
There's no way the other Greek Gods will like the sound of this. Nor will local divinities for that matter, except perhaps Culsans.

I mean look. Our options are piss off the God of Forges, accept a deal that doesn't completely suck or counter offer and potentially piss off our patron god. I mean all he really wants is a forge and to stay away from Greek god bullshit, which I can respect.

The problem is that we can't stay away from Greek God bullshit. He's nice and all, but he can't grow our crops!
Unless you're hoping to get him to mug Demeter for us, but that seems... Unlikely.

At the very least people could vote to ask him what kind of deadline he expects!

It's not like Hephaestus and Demeter are mutually exclusive, they don't have any big feuds with each other, so we shouldn't have a problem there.

This feel like we're helping him give the finger to the rest of the Greek Pantheon. Hence why I'm afraid we'll be angering the other Gods.

I'm okay with conquest against the natives. If it gets us the perks of having a God directly work in our lands...sweet? I'm all for this Holy War.

Mind you that Gradivus has both fertility, war and weather in his portfolio, so you do have a viable alternative to Demeter.
However, she might get a bit... annoyed at you for replacing her.

[X] Accept the deal. Receive gear forged by Hephaestus himself to slay the woman in the mountains, and in return a forge will be erected for the God of Smiths.

Hephaestus is a bro and fuck the fey, I'm all for it.

@Azel @DragonParadox, is this accurate? Are there two different locations we can choose?

Or is it a firm "kick out the fey"?

Because I am totally fine with the latter if it comes down to it.

I strongly prefer fighting the monsters than the tricksome Fey.
There's even a chance to get the Fey as allies in some fights! Monsters though? Eh.

Still, we should start with recon before doing anything too drastic.

The monsters are further away though.
Expanding our kingom and reach until we can undertake a great building project there will take much longer than going in our neighbouring forest.

We could use a general timeline from Hephaestus @Azel?

I want Gradvius as our plant war god. Only because Demeter screwed us hard. A slow replacement over a period of time so that she doesn't notice might be wise if we go down this route.

While you live on the edge of the Woodsfolk territory, their city is actually a good bit away and roughly the same distance from you as the badlands.

And if we accept Hephaestus' bargain, we will have free reign to pursue either of these locations?
Yes. He doesn't care that much either way, just build a nice cozy smithy in a active volcano and he is happy.

We called up the god, it'd be extremely rude to refuse.
Same as if a King gifted you an army and told you to do some conquesting in public.

You could theoretically refuse. It wouldn't end well.
