Strange Tides

Please keep in mind that women have NO place around hoplites. She really should be inside if she were a proper woman.

Having Semni "help" Argurios will be a major distraction. It will make things worse having a "barbarian whore" in a space meant only for the men of the polis.

Why can Argurios not control his woman, who walks about as if she is a man? (And why did the king advise this?)

I thought the Help option came together with Argurios learning the languages, not organising the troops?
Oh my bad.

Point still stands for somebody like Argurios though. He's a noble man learning from his barbarian wife. The only thing she should be doing is look pretty if it were up to him.

It's heavily implied he only sees her as sex toy who learns fast.

Then I do not even know what to do with her. Perhaps make her learn proper Greek?

I think she's picked up enough of it, which is good. I'm thinking that after she delivers the baby, we can have her do diplomacy with the surrounding people. I picked the learn the local language option thinking it would make her more effective at dealing with her people or she picks up a dialect.

She's got her uses but she's dealing with haughty pricks. Luckily for her we aren't a classical greek polis, or she'd be fed up already.

Being the leftovers from a dying city, we do have some leeway to invent some new traditions, based on 'it needs to be done'.

True but getting our ass kicked without collapsing so we can be humbled and more receptive would work too.

Although I don't mind the polis having these repeated disasters; they do the same trick of getting us poor enough to have to depend on the locals or war with them and lose .

Oh, it's a nice "get your shit together or perish" situation. Where the old recipes might not work any longer.

She knows other tongues and cultural contexts

Like its easier to go from German to French than German to Arabic
That might be true, but would she not still need to learn the tongue, before she can effectively help Argurios? Like your arguments is more about how it would be easier for her to learn it, than him.

She helps by being faster to learn the language, thus giving him additional incentive.

[X] Argurios

[X] Semni
-[X] Send someone to negotiate with the local people to deepen ties or heal past insults.

Coup fears seem unfounded after Azel's clarification... and we really need the fighting men organized again.

That's not what I meant to convey. What I tried to express here is that both Argurios willingness and capability to perform a coup are not hinging on a single action.

If you guys genuinely believe he will lead a coup, you should either solidify Isidoros power, find ways to improve his loyalty or try to get rid of Argurios entirely.

As it is, sending him and his unwilling wife away from Hyphyria on a trip to study languages from the locals will look a lot like sidelining both of them in response to last turns debacles.

... and that's exactly what it is? On the other hand, sending them to our neighbours where they had ample opportunity to build alliances, that's not exactly sidelining, is it?

It is because they are either barberoi or Spirits, which both aren't held in high regards within our society

We are basically giving them a shit Job that needs to be done but isn't something anybody can brag with

Since you guys were namevoting me, fair warning to all of you that I'm pulling out of this vote.

Here's the old vote if you want to stick with that instead.

[] Isidoros
-[] Pottery Kilns
[] Argurios
-[] Learn the tongue of the local folk. Though not the most skillful or diligent pupil, Argurios is sure to get the most use from it, but Isidoros would be swifter in study
