Strange Tides

How does the mechanics of this work @Azel ?

You got a crit succses on the dice and the narrative puts it on the gods, or demeter's actions ensured the crit?

Argurios' woman might have a gift of speech, but many will not listen to her. The first reason is that shes is a woman, and the second is that she is a barbarian. While not virulent as may be in later times, there is a haughty and present ethnic chauvanism among greeks at this time. Even when Rome was going head to head with the Seleucids, it was still questioned on whether the romans were barbarians. The story of them being descendents of Troy had to be used to make them more palatable.

I say that not to tell people using Semni is a lost cause, but keep in mind that her being a hero doesn't mean there isn't some negative modifier applied for the two reasons above. Keep it in mind when using her.

[X] [Demeter] Organize a festival in her honor.
-[X] 2 Supplies
[X] [Semni] Do nothing. She did nothing wrong and the workers will clam down in time.
[X] [Argurios] Promise the potters your personal attention come fall. (Isidoros locked into Construct Pottery Kilns next turn)

It was still a mysticism roll to expand the farms, as your people got cursed something fierce in that regard and thus the action was less about organizing farmers and more about turning away the ire of the gods. Thus a crit means divine intervention, for good or ill.

Contrast and compare the crti fail of Semni, which had things go pear-shaped for purely mortal reasons.

Remind me why we bother with hero units again?

Greek Heroes.

And yes, still heroes. They do things bravely, they don't do it by halves, and sometimes their actions save thousands.

But still, heroes of Ancient Greece.

It says enough.

Also, somewhat related, I know a gut instinct is to not give praise to Demeter for being apparently wishy washy, but if it wipes out one grudge when there's no shortage of Gods likely lining up to take the next potshot or send the next "test" our way, it would probably be a good idea to bury it while there's a chance.

[X] [Semni] Send Argurios to calm down the workers. The attention of a proper Greek noble should reassure them.

Its a bad idea to send Argurios to the woodcamp, why? Imagine that you hate your wife and theres this group of people that also hate your wife, will you help them lessen their hate to your wife or just fan it further? Same goes with Semni though i dont think she hates Argurious...

I do not know how to feel about sending Argurios to the woodcutters. They have already calmed down for the most part, I do not want them to worsen relations between Argurios and Semni even more by complaining about her.

// The amount of supplies we spent is a gamble either way - between "squandering my gifts" and "not honoring me correctly", so, minimum should be fine.

*peeks at tally*

Huh. This is getting more contested then it seemed at first.

Yeah, best not admit we made a mistake with using Semni. They can continue on their own, now that she's left.

Kind of want to see how this played out now that she's used her charm.

[X] [Demeter] Do nothing. This hardly makes up for the calamities she had inflicted on your people in the past.
[X] [Semni] Punish those workers who did not follow Semni's orders. It is the right of the king to choose his representatives, but not the right of the peasants to disregard their words.
[X] [Argurios] Send Semni to calm down the potters. She managed to quite down a riot, so she should be able to handle them.
-[X] [Argurios] Make it explicitly clear to Argurios that he failed through poor leadership, arrogance, and willful ignorance. The new city is much to weak to tolerate his incompetence any longer. If he does not change his ways, he will be relegated to a suitably menial and humiliating task.

Edit: and back to the old vote as it has an better chance to win
