Strange Tides

@Azel, what version of gods are these? Are these gods that don't need mortals at all and mostly regard them as playthings, or are they gods that are dependent on the worship of mortals and gather strength from the amount of followers they have as well as the intensity of their devotion?

That's some pretty deep knowledge on the nature of the divine. It's unlikely that anyone but an actual god could answer that question and maybe not even them.

Alright, for now we'll assume the worst and conclude that not even wiping out all of a god's followers will do anything other than piss them off.

Simply getting gods averted from 'oh, and let's see how funny these ants are running around if I burn the hill' will require luck and diplomacy (and bribes).

Yeah, the ASWAH crowd will need some time to adjust to Greek mythology. The win condition went from "rewrite the Pact Primeval" to "get a bag of gold and don't get turned into a monster"

Damn I hope not. There's a certain black bleakness that comes with the territory if the lore here takes after 'Humans are the playthings of gods, nothing else'. So my head canon will be the 'they need humans to sustain themselves somehow' until proven otherwise. Mind, we're not even close to ASWAH-Viserys's transaccional approach to worship, but going to the other extreme just saps a lot of willpower because there would be no free will in effect, or very little of it.

Edit: It would also neatly arrange the god-tier power levels of the setting. Stuff like all these wacky gods coexisting makes more sense if they are in effect created and empowered by belief. That way a puny local river god could get easily smited by Zeus, same as a puny river tribe could be wrecked by Athens.

To put it in ASWAH terms: assume pre-Valyria, set Gods==Dragons, except there are also the other chromatics around. Isn't a perfect fit, but comes close.

Alternative interpretation:
Oh, of course we have free will!
It's just that if you attract the attention of the Gods, you're screwed. They aren't quite all-knowing, but they sure are mightier than you can ever hope to be!

I get the gist of it, I'm just hoping its not as sure a thing as you and others are making it out to be. I was not joking when thinking about building a Numidium as a god tier protector of our civ, even if it would be in all likelihood late or even end game material/objective. The mere fact that we could, theoretically, reach that level would put the lens of the quest in a much more hopeful angle. Something we can look forward to instead of 'just grit your teeth guys, Zeus/Poseidon didn't like the last 100 virgins so he's pissed again. Add another 100 years of build time to the canal'.

Quitter talk.

We are in a fantasy setting here, let's first test our limits, then surpass them and then decide if and how we can cast down the gods from Olympus.

Basically this.

... I thought "Azel == hard mode" already?

... the Valyrians made their former oppressors dumb riding beasts. It wasn't easy, but they managed.

Consolidation for the Update Gods? Unsure if farming will be worth the effort at this point though, as a failure could set us back immensely compared to hunting the woodlands. Demeter wont be feeling charitable with her crop efficiency.

Edit: By the way, what do you guys think was that thing that spoke to the King. I'd say it was a Succubus but I'm not sure they should even 'exist' at this point... Maybe some sort of Babylonian pantheon/Zoroastran infiltrator?

Hopefully we're out of that bitch's deific jurisdiction. Let's not build a temple to her, either. No sense in inviting an enemy god into neutral territory. It might even anger the local gods, if there are any.
