Petals of Titanium -- My Life as a Mecha Setting Bridge Bunny Quest

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
On the other hand, keep in mind that it is my job to tell an interesting story, and that my fun here (and yours, I hope?) is reliant on choices being interesting regardless of what's being chosen. I'm not going to vindictively screw you over just for picking the option you thought of as safe, but please understand that I am not in the business of providing options that will simply result in "do not go on an adventure today" or "stay out of trouble and nothing happens." Being deliberately unadventurous and trying to play it safe all the time would be a plan of action with consequences, and often risky options will have some kind of payoff as opposed to just being "ha, you lose, enjoy sucking."
Well, in that case
[X] Call the Lord Secretary racist

I mean, it's North. She'll call him racist, in the classiest way possible while being drunk.

... I know that's a very narrow superlative, but...

[X] Try to get the attention of some of the other crew members from the Rose who might be in the room

I really don't want to lose here. I really want to call this guy out. I really really do. So I'm not going to browbeat him, I have friends to help with that. Because the people on your ship? Whatever else they are, they're your family. The ship couldn't function otherwise.

We're going to be entertaining Lady Perbeck in a couple of days. We don't want her to think we're boring, so we're going to need a suitably entertaining story to tell.

The public incident we're about to goad this entitled waste of flesh into making is going to be that story. It'll be great, she'll love it.

That's something I hadn't actually thought about... but I could easily see it having the opposite effect. Perbeck seems pretty conscious of her duty and image. She was highly critical of herself for speaking inappropriately even while high on painkillers, nor did she appreciate Anja publicly giving Ito an earful for being reckless in combat.

She might not look favourably on any kind of acting out, regardless of the situation.

This is a very good point- it doesn't necessarily change my vote, but I'm trying to think about ways to potentially do damage control now. I do think that Perbeck has incredibly, unreasonably really, high standards for herself and that doesn't necessarily have to translate into the standards she has for others in all situations. And the Anja situation was really different from our situation here in terms of context, location, and being off-duty in an unofficial locale. I think she'll probably quite disapprove, but I'm not sure how heavy that disapproval will be or what form it'll take.

IT might set the stage for a North sister team-up on the flip side, what with us being knowledgeable about the princess' prototype stealth battleship/possibly having the sensor data that shows how to detect it.
Nothing I've seen of the other side of this war has made them seem particularly appealing. So, in the bluntest terms possible: fuck that.

Nothing about them seems particularly worse than our side though. It's a pretty grey on grey setting. So if we do end up blacklisted in our faction, not that I think that's likely, we could do worse than defect. With our knowledge of codes and encryptions, we have a fair amount of information to offer. Again, I don't think this is a likely turn of events, but I'm not ruling it out.

While it is grey on grey, it's also clearly light grey on dark grey. Our side has problem with racism, classism, and social oppression. The other side has all that and they're religious fanatics under the control of a madman who have done some pretty terrible things to the Jupiter colonists.

Keep in mind propaganda wars are in full effect. I highly doubt a free press exists in either faction, so all news and information is going to be biased. I'm sure there's some truth to it, but we shouldn't believe everything we see in military news. And frankly, I don't see North as someone concerned with the morality of her cause or her faction. If we thought we could do better on the other side and it was worth cutting ties with all of our friends and coworkers, then I would be fine with being a sensor operator for the other guys. I'd rather not, because it would mean parting from the interesting cast of characters we've met, but I won't rule it out.

My impression from the ongoing infiltration side stories is that, no, they really are a darker grey than we are. Hence Mosi's crew being surprised by the lack of secret police and active oppression, while simultaneously warning their contact about being too free with his tongue when they do take over again.

Fuck it. LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINS!

I mean, a nobody insulting a high ranked noble in a heavily autocratic society? There is a good chance that if he takes umbrage he could decide to step on us, and Anja is very much in the collateral zone since he's a clear racist.

Gazetteer has essentially said that she isn't going to protect us from some consequences, but that she also wants choices to have positives as well as negatives, just as constantly playing it safe all the time will. She really isn't going to completely tank us and our friend based off a very risky choice we made in a single update.

Like this was a setup where things are, logically, going to go wrong if you use IC reasoning. And things going wrong is, at heart, part of life. I tried to detail exactly why that would be across 2 posts- if you see issues with my rationale I'd love to discuss them with someone, I could be looking at it wrong. But let's not resort to doomsaying.

Like yes, this might possibly be a huge fuckup. However, it will be a very human fuckup regardless, the result of a combination of both the situation (North is drunk and thus has less brain-to-mouth filter) and the nature of the character (jumping in to defend a friend when they're under attack is a pretty standard and understandable impulse).

No one is perfect all the time, and this is a development/exploration of North's character.

[X] Try to get the attention of some of the other crew members from the Rose who might be in the room

I just can't see North losing control of herself in directly calling the guy out. I'd expect drunk North to default to: ship is family

I don't see a vote lock. So I might as well throw in mine.

Good point! That will be the last vote, I am actively working on the post now, a switch in result would be very inconvenient. Sorry!

Just out of curiosity, as the votes are very close, are you doing a bit of merging of results, or keeping it a very clean separation?

I started in on this quest recently (I'm glad to be here) and was just curious as to your preference for close tallies.
