Petals of Titanium -- My Life as a Mecha Setting Bridge Bunny Quest

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
The Lily is more important than the Rose, and that exotic material could be vital. But I also don't want to loose any of our pilots, which makes this one hurt.

Actually, why is that a choice a second time. It makes me feel like our last pick when consequences came up was worthless.

[X] You didn't fail to defend the Lily from destruction

[X] You didn't fail to secure the vital Menschy matter

I must say, I'm less than impressed with the tactical decisions of the Lily's crew.

They're firing the Positron to minimal effect, and manage to blow up their own ship in the process? They never should have tried firing it, it made no sense in the situation they were in.

They're a bunch of eggheads. They have no tactical experience. You'd think they'd bring in an actual naval officer to run (even a) stealth experimental ship, which yeah, might be boring for the captain, but would have saved them from whatever they were doing in that last battle.

From a story standpoint, these seem the most interesting. We're an Ensign, not the Fleet Commander. We don't have to make every choice with the big picture strategic goals in mind.

It's a war, and if there were no risk of anyone dying after you make sure to spare them once, then it would suck the tension out of battle scenes. Something will always be lost in a battle scene and sometimes that means giving up something you previously decided to preserve when the mental or emotional calculus changes. People dying in senseless or frustrating ways is also an element of the genre I always intended to include. I'm not deliberately just killing off characters the moment you get attached to them, but there is always going to be some risk of losing people.

The unfortunate thing is that the Lily's crew is more or less thrown together from whoever was working on the ship at the time or whoever made it off the station and onto it. There likely was someone more qualified to directly command a naval ship in combat than Patel, but they died with the station.

From an objective pov the Menschy matter is more valuable than the pilots even if the Night Lily was noted to have mecha to spare, but from an emotionally pov the death of either Ito, or Perbeck would be devastating. Because Ito is a brother to the only friend North has, and a close friend at that while Perbeck is an interesting character we'd like to know more.

From a story pov the loss of the Menschy matter will emphasize the fact that ships/mecha were noted to place a strain on the resources of Saturn, and will result in closer bonds being forged to overcome a resource shortage while losing the pilots will... well there is a war going hot so the themes are rather obvious.

Also I have a sneaking suspicion that somebody has been selling Menschy material to civilians either to arm them in preparation for the inevitable encroachment of our opponents, or to make a quick buck, which would be what they made sure to store somewhere where it wouldn't be noticed when we paid Quetzle station a visit.

These are my votes. In the grand scheme of things these are the two that matter the most for me. Simple as that. I'll talk more about the update in the morning.

Really tough choices

[X] You didn't fail to defend the Lily from destruction
Got to save the princess.

[X] None of your pilots are lost
Perbeck, Ito what the hell?
This is twice in a row we have to save you guys.

Save the princess, and the prototype.

Loot!

Even if the Rose isn't crippled she is heavily damaged, never mind the fact that she is vastly more expendable than Lily.
Much as I like Perbeck she isn't worth that much vital war materials. (Still don't give a damn about the other pilot.)
If there was a chance of killing The Sister I might go for it, but without that scattering the enemy force just isn't worth it.

Fairly confident there were several such people on the Rose.
