hmm, not particularly liking Ruthlessness. It creates a circle of doing shitty actions that make people dislike you that make you feel justified in doing more shitty actions that make more people dislike you...
Would be best to try getting rid of it as soon as possible.

[X] Let the hunter place traps in the forest around the village. For game and attackers both. (Hunting: Great Beast becomes Trapping)

We are still having starvation currently right? @Azel
If so, then I would prioritize attempting to get more food over just studying Snow Demon gear, since we can hopefully do that next turn (it won't decompose in a month after all)

Time for a bear hunt. Having a Winter Hero just made it a hell of a lot easier.

More or less. Between two hunting actions and the plunder, you've got exactly enough to meet this months demand, but the stocks are still critically low.

You are voting for the option that substitutes a regular hunt to keep the hunters closer to the village.

Editing option to make that clearer.

Whoops.

But yes, get the bear while it's weak!

[X] Stick to the previous decision. The hunters will try to find and slay the great beast. (Perform Hunting: Great Beast as planned)

Also, I feel zero guilt for acting ruthlessly towards these assholes. They hunted our kinsmen for food. And worse, they did it inefficiently. A few of the bodies were left out to rot instead of being properly hauled away and preserved for consumption. The nerve of them!

We need the food and the morale boost that this will bring. The weather should hopefully hold the snow demons back until next turn when we can start taking actions to trap and study the snow equipment.

The cold preserved the bodies nicely. They intentionally left them out as bait for anyone who might search for the dead.

Not to mention the fact that our single best shot is striking while it's in hibernation.

Ah. Fiendishly clever.

Two can play at that game. If they continue to pursue hostilities we'll hunt them right back.

Life is morbid at times.
To be frank though it been wiser for them to not lead a trail, it gave us to much warning. Giving one's enemy warning is really foolish.
In fairness to them, they probably weren't anticipating going up against a Winter Hero.

They had superior winter gear, they had goddamn armor, and they rolled right through the initial hunting group. If I had that information I certainly wouldn't expect the remnants of the tribe to put up a proper fight.

@Azel, how'd they know our language? Did they torture it out of the captured tribesmen?
No, the captured tribesmen were stuffed into a corner and mostly ignored. They waited for whatever Skaog is supposed to be.

They are speaking more or less the same language as you, just with a pretty extreme accent and massively diverging cultural background. Think of the worst accent of your mother tongue, spoken by someone with radically different social background.

For my fellow Germans, imagine a chinese immigrant learning only the Bavarian variant of German and using a lot of badly translated colloquialisms and turns of phrase from his homeland. You can kinda make out what he wants from you, but that's about it.

[x] First study the plundered gear of the Snow Demons. The hunts will be safer for it. (Hunting: Great Beast becomes Study Winter Equipment)

Fuck, that's twisted. These snow cannibals are just...ugh.

We'll starve if we don't hunt!

Note that the diplo and other penalties are only if they know of our rep. Plus, just like brash gave us several options, ruthless would too. I think the tier-two traits we might get from ruthless might let us use it as a force multiplier.

Actually we have enough food to survive this month.
We could hunt the beast next turn.

Yeah, but if we go hunting this turn and fail, we have a chance to try again. If we leave it until the last minute and don't find enough food-- hello, starvation, cannibalism, civil war. If I was a tribesman I wouldn't risk it. It's not like their equipment isn't going to be there next month.

I personally hope it will work against things like corruption in our civ later on.

That, or even a trait for psychological warfare would be bananas. Like Sun Tzu said, war is really about crushing your opponent's will to fight.

True, but on the other hand better winter-equipment will help us with the next hunt, it's even said in the option.
