Trying out a promise phrasing:

I promise to go shopping for clothes with you, Lucilia, after my first paycheck from the next job I'm hired at.

There aren't actually a ton of loopholes to close in the promise? Going shopping doesn't imply buying things, and so it kinda just comes down to the timeframe. And since she already said that doing it after we were paid was fine, with no implicit time limit, this seems like an okay way to say it?

Tell me if I'm missing something though.

From minute lines hovering one above the other, it was clear that the same name had been painted on it again and again. "Cuimideas". While neither of the two girls had any idea why it was called like that, there was no doubt that this name was held dearly by the owner.
According to google translate, Cuimideas is Scottish Gaelic for chimneys? If this is some kind of reference, I have no idea what for.

"Nice to meet you too, dear. My name's Melissa Oideas." She rose up to her feet and walked towards Lirra, her hand searching into one of her pocket before she pulled out a wrapped candy and put it in the Changeling's hand. "Here, have this as a welcome gift."
Oideas: Irish for recipe. Same source.

And you don't look like you want to sell something..." the old woman concluded. "Just so you know, our shop has a strict policy against placing a horse's head in anyone's bed, if that was what you wanted."

There was a moment of silence at that, before the old woman chuckled.

"Ah, finally I managed to surprise you. Good, good. Although if you really want to know, someone really asked me for such a… 'delivery' once. But as I said, strict policy."

Lucilia remained silent for a bit before she shook her head and tried to get back on track.

"No. No I don't need any horse head put in anyone's bed, but I'll remember to ask someone else to do this in case I do someday," she finally said. "So, as I was trying to say, I actually came here because Lirra needs a job."
:lol
Also, apparently this shop sells to mobsters. I fully approve.

Is... is Lucilia trying to seduce us? :S
Lucilia: I shall use all my Bardly powers to seduce our warrior!

(if you both go and guess who the inspiration for the old lady is, you'll get a bonus level in barter)
Is it the witch from Brave?

Edit: we need some more suggestions. She's probably Irish, based on the names.

Yip-Yi-O!

This is a fantasy world, its either fantasy Ireland or someplace with a strong influence of Gaelic culture. There is no Ireland.

I mean that the inspiration for her is probably Irish. Either the story she's in, the character themselves, or both.
On second reading of your post, do you mean that we've encountered a lot of people with Irish names, or that it makes sense that we would? I haven't been keeping track of where characters' names come from, so if this is the case I didn't notice.

So, what we have so far is:
- her shop's name is Cuimideas, and it seems to be a very important name to her.
- her name is Melissa Oideas.
- based on the above, her inspiration might be either Irish, or from an Irish story/folktale.
- she seems friendly, and gave us candy.
- her shop is a generalist shop, which sells 'everything,' which definitely includes weapons, sweets, clothes, books, and some kind of reagents (possibly ingredients for potions? Alchemy?)
- the shop is made of wood, and has lots of random stuff (knick-knacks).
- the shop sells magic items.
- she made a Godfather reference.
- she was helped out by a Fae when she was young and needed money, leading to the creation of her shop. This seems likely to be a reference to her inspiration.
- she is now old and rich (or at least considers herself rich), yet still works at the shop.
-she invited us back for 'a trial.'
- her hair is greying, and is held in place by a string decorated with 2 large red spheres (beads?).

Hmm...

"There are… rumors," Lucilia finally let out reluctantly. "I mean, there has to be a way she gets all these items, and let me tell you it's not something you could simply order from the mainland. It's old, powerful stuff..." She leaned over the table, her teal eyes locking into Lirra's. "Dungeon stuff," she finished in a whisper.

Disconcertingly powerful dungeon goods? Check.

Finally, they stopped in front of a house, above which entrance hung an old, well entertained, sign. From minute lines hovering one above the other, it was clear that the same name had been painted on it again and again. "Cuimideas". While neither of the two girls had any idea why it was called like that, there was no doubt that this name was held dearly by the owner.

Shop's an old house with a handpainted sign? Check.

"My name's Melissa Oideas."

...including a portmanteau of the owner's name? Check.

"I guess I could have guessed that. Still… I guess I can sympathise with money problems due to adventuring and in the end, this just may be fate."

Sympathizes with adventuring-related financial troubles? Check.

"Ah, don't worry, it's nothing dramatic. I just… had the help of a Fae when I was young and needed money, which led to the creation of the original Cuimideas," she said, her voice both warm and worn. She smiled sadly. "I guess it is only fitting that now that I'm old and rich, I should help a young Fae with the very same shop."

Fae helped her set up her shop back when she was young and in debt? Check!

In conclusion, I can only say one thing:

Truly, Lirra has found best mentor.

....if Lirra decides to throw over the adventuring life in favor of becoming CUTE RUTHLESS CAPITALIST GOATGIRL, I wouldn't complain. She can already profit from the demise of others! She's a natural!

So, Recette?
... holy crap, even the red orbs that she uses to tie her hair is there. Well done! (Probably. Depending on word of Renu:p)

Bad!

Do we actually get strengthened from making promises? Otherwise, I'm not sure we should promise anything. Promises are a big deal after all.

It's two-sided. One gets boons to make the job easier but if you don't carry through you get penalized, which is why I tried to word it fairly loosely and non-restrictively, so that even if the boon was weak so would be the punishment should we for whatever reason fail with it.
Incidentally? If you guys are worried about the fallout from this?
*evil grins* We swore ourselves into a debt with a life on the line. THAT'S GOING TO BE FUN!

And I was guessing Recettear. No mean feat, considering I know jack fuck all aside from a single drabble in the Infinite Loops on SB.

You got it!

(by the way, the horse head thing is canon)

Oideas means recipe, recipe in french is recette. Melissa is part of the latin name for lemon balm, who, if you translate a few times, ends up being lemongrass.

Why do I want to hug a loli capitalist? This goes against my communist brother's indoctrination.

Given GM clarification, I'm changing vote.

[X] [shopping] No promise
[X] [work] Go

If there are only downsides, no point in promising.

GM clarification has shown this is mistaken. Consider changing vote to not promising, give total lack of boons?

Well, there's no mechanical boon, but I'm pretty sure the main reason people are going for the (reasonably structured) promise is because Lucilia will appreciate it, as opposed to:

"So can we go shopping together later?"

"No promises."
