With ~9 turns remaining we should br able to very comfortably spend 3 on material research before starting on the huts.

If we were making hide huts I'd agree but the tribe will already be attempting novel construction, may as well let it be the best we can in the timeframe.

Leaving 6 turns for shelter to cover any mistakes or unforseen events is plenty.

3 turns, 9 actions.

We need 3 to make our camp.
One for preservation.
I'd set two at least for actually getting surplus food before winter.

That leaves us with 3 other actions, of which I spend one on getting water-resistant roofs and leave two for failures or surprises.

By Azel's clarification if we don't make Wattle waterproof successfully this turn it's an entirely wasted effort.

Research has to be completed on the first turn of construction efforts.

What if we push back camp construction 1 turn and see what we can accomplish now with research in terms of shelter and food preservation?

[X] Plan Scouting
-[X] [Action] Explore your surroundings further.
--[X] Follow the river into the valleys.
--[X] Go towards the sunset.
--[X] Explore the mountains.

Maybe we'll get crit successes that give us free stuff. We are at the point where rudimentary observation is enough to get more than halfway through a technological innovation, in the case of finding potential neighbors.

[X] Plan Building Economy and Spirituality:
-[X] [Action] The small forest critters exist in great numbers, but are hard to catch. Try to catch them with traps.
-[X] [Action] Your tents are ill suited for this places weather. Begin making more sturdy and permanent homes. (Takes 3 Actions total, can be spread out over multiple turns.)
-[X] [Action] The spirits have shown their hand again. Try to find ways to appease them.

[X] Plan Prepare to Prepare
-[X] [Action] Try to figure out a way to fell entire trees.
-[X] [Action] Look into replicating the methods to preserve food you have heard about from other tribes.
-[X] [Action] While the wattle makes for sturdy construction, it does little to keep the rain out. Try to find a solution.

@bigbow @Artemis1992

Like so? Sorry for the delay but I was also at work and on phone.

[X] Plan Prepare to Prepare

Acceptable.
Now we can only pray to the RNG that we don't have more than one particularly nad roll before winter comes.
Or maybe a crit to cover for failures.

Something to consider:

If you find other settlements, you could try to trade for ressources and knowledge instead of having to figure out everything on your own and being entirely self-reliant.

Something I'm sure most are planning on doing, just not in the months immediately preceding Winter, a vulnerable time in a new location we are less than familiar with.

"Hey guys, we've just had to abandon our ancestral home land, lost a great deal of strength from our main defenders, lost our wisest leader and are all round less than stable at the moment so if you need to raid for resources in the heart of winter we'll be over yonder".

Maybe next year.

I'm looking forward to contact, which is why I voted for the less isolated area at the start, but right before winter it seems like quite the gamble.

We'll eventually share ideas and expertise outside of our tiny group, once we have something of a save position and stuff, material and otherwise, to trade.

Hi All, l don't like to mass ping but we've had some new information from Azel since your current vote was written if you would like to review your options. The plan author(?) has himself switched plans.

I'd really like to start tree-cutting already, but preservation and roof-building should happen now and I don't want to leave all tge house-building for later, so we have opportunity to gather and hunt more now preservable food directly before winter.

Still, I can't help but think that cut trees would improve our future huts and will bring it in the next turn-plan.
Mind you that the material research options wont affect the construction effort, unless completed before or on the same turn.
So we can affect the building action with the tree action if we finish both next turn, or do trees next turn and finish building the one after that?
Sorry, reading comprehension failure on my part.
The wood action only affects construction if it is finished before or on the same part as the first building action.
Basically you are settling on a construction style when you start to build the village and any later changes will require either rebuilding entirely or invalidate part of the effort.

@Deliste makes a good point @Artemis1992 I would consolidate if you delayed construction by one turn at least.

@Deliste, I merely wanted to mention the option, since most of you seem to focus entirely on self-reliace before winter. It would be a meaningless choice if there was no risk involved. ;)

[X] Plan Prepare to Prepare

Yeah probably want to try to shoot for better storage techs first so we actually have a winter store. Main problem right now is all our food can't keep. We'd starve

A bit close to call it. Leaving the vote open for a few more hours.

Come on guys, go for the plan that means we're more likely to have a better camp when we get around to building it...
