Plan: 5p's aka proper preparation prevents p#'*-poor performance

[X] [Hunters] Allow them to proceed. They will make enough of the new spears for their plan and slay the beast.

[X] [Action] Look into replicating the methods to preserve food you have heard about from other tribes.

[X] [Action] Make new tools from the strange stones for the entire tribe. (Bonus to Gathering efficiency.)

Obsidian makes for some awfully devastating pit traps, even a bear stepping into one of those would come out in ribbons.

My recommendation would be single limb pit traps, it's slow and cruel but they're effective, easier to make, easier to hide and place effectively and it's basically the equivalent of sticking your hand in the garbage disposal.

Most things won't get far and they'll leave a bright red trail besides.

Obsidian would need luck. If you drive it into the flanks with a long shard you can bleed it to death.

Or you hit bone and now you're armed with kibble

This is for a type of pit trap, so being left unarmed is not a concern.

But yeah the construction would focus on slicing from obsidian blades anchored into the walls of the trap rather than spikes driven into the base of the pit.

Never saw such a pit trap before and it definitely looks quite effective given the work involved.

Adding it to the potential innovations from hunting actions.

Fantastic.

It's quite a brutal design, it should remain effective as an anti-personnel measure well through any technological age we are likely to see (booby traps were still a thing in the Vietnam war) and we have the perfect turtling location.

Combine with effective archery, thrown stones or rigged deadfalls and mountain passes etc. become nightmarish because there's a long tradition of snipers and similar roles using wounded victims as bait for further enemies. We live in an age where most warbands are extended family units...

I'm going to enjoy this very muchly.

You'd see it used fairly rarely. Much as obsidian makes a very fine edge, producing and working Obsidian is still pretty limited so using it on anything smaller than a bear or yak is wasteful.

To say nothing about how little useful materials would be left of a rabbit that falls into one of those things.

Anyway...bear killing wise, obsidian tipped spear and spear-throwers to get enough force to drive one through the protective fat layer

They've got to be special when you compare them with what we have now. At our level bone is a valuable material. Bones from a 3 meter tall bear could be used for a lot of things.

No, not really anything special. Seriously, you'd just use wood instead for anything that large.

Its significant ceremonially, but its not a particularly useful tool material.
