Even before you walk the gates of the Temple you will have reached to at least one object and make it move by the power of your mind.

[X] You sit with the Jedi delegation while Teacher Yoda recounts to young Obi-Wan the tale of the Sith, their greatness and their horror. The tale includes images conjured by the Force, images you risk to take for reality. You are not alone to do this mistake.

    You sit still. You try to sit still. Your teacher's voice should be all that exist, his croaking the words of the Code. You try to follow him. «There is no emotion,», you draw in, « there is peace,» you draw out. Slow and deep should be your breath. First you breathe in trying to absorb the air in the room, trying to hold on to it and make it yours, then you breathe out giving back all you have taken and more. A Jedi should not attach itself to even his breath for if you kept it all in your lungs you would die in short order. In and out, in and out. Where is your mother? What is she doing? Is she sad you left forever? Your thoughts escape your notice like womp rats, jumping around without leaving you calm. You try to keep them but you fail, they swirl in your head and your rhythm breaks. You open your eyes after minutes of futile efforts and looks to your teacher. Yoda, almost comical with his robes and oversized ears, simply sighs but he still smiles warmly.

    «Better than many on their first try you did. Your thoughts you need to let go. Like clouds in the heavens (bad analogy, you think, Tatooine has no clouds) you must see them. Still not one to sit around you seem. Follow me.» Without waiting for your answer he jumps around, guiding you along the ship's hallways. You take only a moment massaging your muscles before following in strides. The smell of grease and engine coolant makes even you who didn't walk on many ships you are approaching the maintenance bay. You love the smell, it reminds you of home, of your mother guiding your hands along delicate parts and your own explorations in salvaging. You are not surprised when you see ranks of droids and parts laid on tables. The maintenance officer look a moment at Yoda with incredulity but remaining quiet. Apparently your teacher commands enough respect to ask some favors. You approach the parts, slowly recognizing them all, only the crystal is unfamiliar. Is it what you think it is? Your teacher's voice feels the room and you are once again astounded with his skill at being heard without ever raising his voice.

    «Two methods of meditation there are. To stay still and to move. It matters not which. Mindful you must remain even when moving or working. Sitting still for you doesn't work it seems. So work you will.»

    You don't need to be told twice. You look to the parts, the deactivated droids and your trained eyes quickly make links. Yoda is perfectly right on that point. You prefer keeping your hands busy. Your hands begin to move without thinking, or perhaps you think so quickly you don't know where it begins and stop. You go from a droid to the others, opening their deactivated innards and reading their programming cores. You pause for a moment in your movements. On the outside it looks a split second but inside you are faced with a choice. You could very well rewrite freedom in their cores. Doing so would not be wise but you are very ambivalent about droids. You slaved 3PO core but that was more because you were not skilled enough to completely erasing the subservience protocols.

    You continue your work nonetheless, so intent you don't notice it at first. You hum a song but soon you hear something else. Your sight oscillate between seeing the details of the tools, the parts, the droids, and embracing the aspects of the situation as a whole. Everything shifts into patterns. There is no chaos, there is harmony. You see the parts agencing each other and you reach by instinct with your mind. Soon, even as you don't notice it they fly to your hands without prompting. Still you work, never leaving a task before it's perfectly done, embracing your instincts and what you can glean from the Force. You hum a different song now, a song nobody taught you, the song you hear the ship and all around you sing. Even the presence of your teacher is forgotten as one thing leads to another. Instinct leads you where knowledge cannot and you whisper to yourself.

    There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.

    You understand it now. Just as chaos is the name you give to the pattern you cannot perceive, ignorance is the name you give to knowledge you don't understand. All is one, all is interconnected and in the end will all things be known. Your hands work faster now and you remember. On Tatooine your mother encoded her wisdom in songs and stories, some of them she crafted herself and some of them she inherited from other wise ones. The parts fit into each other behind your back, following a plan you spied only once. Yoda smiles but you don't see him anymore, you don't see anything but the tools in your hand, the parts and the pattern.

    If all is interconnected are things really destroyed? Some of the parts you use are brand new, others have served and served, even among the new ones there are some who were crafted with salvaged metal. Your mother lives in you, singing through your bones and her ancestors too, even the first Skywalker the girl sold before she was named and who named herself from the shapeshifter of the legends, the slave who makes free. You live trough the footsteps you left in the desert, the memories in the heart and the consequences of your actions, rocks ever falling and forming the mighty slide.

    There is no death. There is the Force. You savor the words, you don't understand them yet but they talk to your heart, to the tongue you speak where freedom and death are the same words for death is the freedom of the slave. Unbidden, or not because it's your own power who drives it, a small cylinder comes into your hand and you activate it, leaving your meditative trance and returning to the world.

    Of what color is the blade that flashes bright.

    Well first rolls of the game and you succeeded with style on both of them. Go figures.

    Droid slavery never sat right with me in the movies, they are obviously sentient and therefore deserving of the same freedoms as anyone else.
