Incidentally, a whole bunch of stupid robots doesn't really make much sense. Especially not robots that are this stupid. I mean, if you're going to make combat robots, then you should at the very least give them some basic combat knowledge, otherwise it's just a waste of resources.

Which makes me suspect that their current behavior is not intended, but a fallback mechanism of such. A set of basic programming they use when their primary control system is disabled or destroyed.

So, be carefull with what we poke at.

Personally, I suspect that the bots are meant to be commanded by a person rather than function independently. They're defaulting to dumb flying brick with a gun on it behavior because there's no security personnel to tell them to use more advanced tactics.

That would be my guess too.

The protheans seem to have a certain distaste for thinking machines, with the exception of their VI.

Still this complex is both in excellent shape and has a ton of defences...maybe a research compound with a beacon perhaps?

OR. They are deliberately dumb.

Because the Protheans canonically fought a war with a group of machine intelligences in their history.
And really did not want to risk sapience in their own combat robots, and would rather accept reduced capabilities instead.
Just as modern Predator drones have controllers to tell them what to shoot, and there is vociferous objection to autonomous combat drones IRL.

Simply put a couple people as field coordinators.

This is not the Quarians of canon. There is no current evidence that they have advanced anywhere as far as the ones who created the original geth platforms. There is no reason to believe they have any expertise in the project.
OK, mostly soldiers but there should be some engineers for ship maintenance. Not Ideal, but you might be right they might have no useful knowledge in this field.

+ It was some time back (I think around the time we got their distress signal :eyebrow:) @PoptartProdigy said in one comment that Mira heard IC that quarians were developing drones. Nothing more than flying in one place and shooting stationary target, but they have some head start.
I'm not saying they got Geth level, just pointing out what I remembered. Am I mistaken, Pop?

Particle Rifle

This kinda thing seems to be very advanced by the standards of Mass Effect.
I partially doubt that these drones have something like that. IIRC those rifles and their accompanying tech was developed during Reaper Invasion, if they were build before that .. still their tech could be more advanced than what we have now 2000 y before canon. Still here's hoping.

Still either way we could gain something from both studying AND salvaging. Win-Win either way.

The stupidity of the drones makes me wonder at the processes building and deploying them (assuming they are actually being built on site, and not just being deployed from a storage facility)
How intelligent is the system that getting them to the starting point of their "go forth and shoot" routine?

Well we're looking at likely more advanced than modern day mass effect either way (like I believe the Protheans are still number 1 in that regard.*)

So yeah good either way, but @PoptartProdigy if you have time what kinda stuff we looking at here? The kinda weapons Javick used or something more similar to modern mass effect guns?

*This is Andromeda, so I dunno about its canonicity here, but apparently the Protheans are still more advanced than the Remnant from the game, they just did things so differently to prothean tech that it seems more advanced.

Alright, I'm awake and am also available to answer a whole pile of question, which means the vote is now open!
What on Virmire would they need battleships for? They're attacking an underground facility, the battleships would only be useful for defensive operations at best and it seems the current infantry forces have that pretty much entirely in hand. It's almost certainly not worth the effort.
But they're so cool. :lol
Yeah, I'm thinking this as well, given we have been pumping excessive amounts of funding into various research projects.

...and, as stated, we're IC-aware of the fact that there's a good chance a research team might dig up some mind-altering Precursor tech any given year.

Also, I enjoy the note about the seething pot of madness. It'll be interesting to see what the rest of the galaxy thinks of Virmire once we reestablish contact with them.
I have fun writing these lunatics.
He seems a bit junior to be leading a Brigade shouldn't it be a Brigadier or Brigadier general leading it?
Actually standard for the U.S. Army, as I understand. So says Wikipedia, anyway, which is exactly enough information for me to say, "Yeah, sure, that'll do." Not my area of expertise=I will accept the first remotely-plausible thing that crosses my eye. For projects like this, at least. Money gets on the line, you start seeing me do my research. ;)
I'm more surprised she knew anything about our planetside forces given they don't do much in the scheme of things.

Unless she mistook our First (Void) Marines for our First (Wet Navy) Marines?
Bereft of anything to do save maintain themselves, the Army uses what little remains of its budget on combat drilling and recruitment propaganda. Given that this has been their focus, unbroken and undistracted, for decades, they're perhaps the best in the galaxy at each (although you're guessing on that score).
@PoptartProdigy, am I wrong to think that this is a great opportunity for us to salvage, reverse-engineer, or at least make use of some very capable ground combat hardware?
You are not. At the moment, they're a threat, but the research teams have already succeeded in taking a few wrecks for salvage.

You are not. Quarians are industry leaders in this at the moment. Every state has combat drones, but mostly they're operator-controlled. The issue with autonomous drones is a slew of reliability concerns, along with the aforementioned qualms over drones meant to kill things without sapient input.

Does not look like particle rifles at this site.

Curses just as you post I post my question:mad::rofl:.

Does not look like particle rifles at this site.
Never mind :D

Still not quite that advanced which makes sense, no point wasting them on disposable drones.

Still that does lead to another question, how intact are these ruins and how big are they? I think they're meant to be big...

[X] This year has showed you the seething pot of madness on which Durrahe keeps a lid. You can't make Virmire's research institutes less insane, but you can ensure that they're communicating clearly. Perhaps it's time to institute a review of their reporting procedures. When you're giving them funding like you are, you'd appreciate being notified of what the hell is happening to it. Gain an option next year to review and update accountability requirements for research programs benefiting from federal funding.

[ ] Nothing. You've cleared up the miscommunication, and you see no further need to meddle in the matter.

Yeah, oversight with crazy scientists and spooky precursor artifacts is a must.

Sorry was going of commonwealth organisational practices.

Lack of communication gets people killed.
Let's improve that a bit.

A brave new field of study:V
