Anime Rival Quest (Very Meta)

So close.

Ah well, we've at least established ourselves that using Trap Magic isn't outside our expertise/morality.

We can aim to be Aizen 2.0 next Season. Or something to that effect anyway.

First Lesson
You skip backwards, drawing and firing your blaster as you go. The mana-charged shots detonate on contact with the earth as the recoil carries you out of the enraged heroine's range, throwing up a cloud of dust and broken concrete that covers your escape somewhat.

An instant later she skids to a halt, blinking tears from where the dust got in her eyes, sword upheld in a somewhat shaky guard as she tried to scrub at her eyes with her free hand.

"Where do you think you're looking?"

She lashes out in the direction of your voice but you've already sidestepped the thrust, raising your blaster to shoot from the hip and sinking it directly into her stomach this time, the detonation hurling her back across the warehouse to slam into the opposite wall, leaving a dent in the corrugated metal siding before she falls to the ground beneath it, panting. You probably broke a couple of her ribs with that, but if her powers are anything like yours you're pretty sure she should be able to regenerate them once she has a few minutes.

Still... You don't want to necessarily be too brutal. You're thinking you want to be sympathetic in the long run after all.

For now though, you get to condescend at her. "No preparation, no focus, wasting your time, rushing in recklessly against an unknown foe."

Still blinking dust out of her eyes she struggles, to her feet, leaning on her sword heavily with one hand as she throws the other out towards you, a massive wave of deadly magic crossing the intervening space.

You could throw up a barrier, but at this range, the wave's diffusion also slows it down, giving you time to sidestep the blast instead, flourishing your cape as you go. "Not to mention you don't seem to be any good at magic apart from self-reinforcement and empowerment of that shiny sword of yours. Did you never think to maybe bring other weapons with you? A ranged option other than your unfocused attempts at blasting magic?" She glares and you wisely change the angle of your pacing, circling her rather than coming any closer. Heroic willpower is dangerous stuff after all, and it throws off wounds even more easily than traps.

You're not going to get rushed like that again if you can help it.

You level your blaster at her and she flinches before you swing it out to the side and channel a little extra mana into the shot, overloading it as you fire to generate a massive explosion in a pile of abandoned boxes. Then you aim it at her again, the barrel glowing ominously as you charge the fifth shot in the same way. Not that you intend to fire mind you, but it makes a damn good way of getting your point home. "Give up this foolishness, hand over your sword, and leave the protection of this city to those who know what they're doing."

Her head snaps up and she glares. "You'll have to take it from me." You watch her eyes this time and there's a flash of something in them at her retort. Heroic willpower activating at the perfect time. She's about to try for a comeback.

You can even hear her theme music beginning to rise behind the tremulous tone that had faded off at your last remark...

[] [Theme] Write in (Propose a theme song for her. To play at appropriate moments.)

[] [Combat] Traps worked the first time so toss down another one. See if she's learned anything.
[] [Combat] Keep your blaster trained on her and stay light on your feet, kite her.
[] [Combat] Stand your ground and counterattack, you know she reveals an opening when she raises her sword for that overhead cut.
[] [Combat] Write in.

Current Status: Two Bullets left before reload/Ready for you this time.../Uninjured

Current Tolerance: 3

Yes... first we begin with The Reason You Suck Speech. Next... psychoanalyse her... prod more into this mind of hers... that dark past must be unearthed!

Until her anger reaches its limits...

Then we shall see her power... unskilled but definitely plentiful. Useful to know for the future.

Definitely a good way to get her to push herself

But we can also use her to propel ourselves to greater heights

Like so:

There is an urgent want to submit a write in close to lowering your arm, shaking your head, and giving her the Look Of Utter Disappointment.

Because I know it ain't easy to listen to a guy condescending you, but damn. We're trying to protect the city, not Cripple Could-Be protectors.

...I mean if you want to just eat the comeback attack she's about to unleash then go ahead I guess?

Oooh, we can? Damn.

No Selling her Comeback Attack would definitely be worth using up the 3 Tolerance Points if you ask me.

If we can't use the TPoints, and actually get injured, then woah there MC. Hitting an opponent that didn't even bother fighting back? What kind of Hero are you? Did your Contractor forget to explain the Do's and Do Not's of heroism?

[X] [Combat] Traps worked the first time so toss down another one. See if she's learned anything.
-[X] Sneak in a second trap for when she avoids or breaks through the obvious one.

Y'know? I need to go to sleep anyways, so I'm gonna do that. I look forwards to seeing what madness you've come up with when I wake up~

Oh! And a note on the theme song vote! PLEASE DO NOT DIRECTLY INSERT VIDEOS INTO THE THREAD. It's mean to the people browsing on mobile. Stick to hyperlinks if you don't mind?

I think I too would like to use the tolerance to eat the attack and come out fine. Can we do that?

[x] [Combat] Keep your blaster trained on her and stay light on your feet, kite her.

Lets stick with dodging and show her that it doesn't matter how powerful you are if you can't hit anything.

Theme songs? Theme songs.

[] [Theme] Row Row Fight The Power.
[] [Theme] Armored Titan.
[] [Theme] Daughter of The Flame.
[] [Theme] Heartless.
[] [Theme] Strenght of a Thousand Men

Oh and I have many more for our PC.
EDIT: Forgot to say this but they are two types of songs here.
Those with a slow build up while the MC is starting to get angry, they start with a low volume and gradually get louder and epic.
Then there is the other type where the MC is strangely passive (with that shadow over their eyes) there is no music and then BAM the MC explode and his theme too.

She has theme music going, so she's probably going to either dodge out of the trap of break right through it. We should be aiming to give a good fight here for a bit, so make her use that heroic will to get to us past our traps.

If durability had been chosen as one of the traits, yes.

This feels like the prime opportunity for Opportunist to show its stuff!

Also this is a very interesting quest, watching.

[X]Fire your blaster at the ground to kick up dust, blocking her vision and use the recoil to evade.

Let our rival have the brawn. We have the brains.
EDIT: Nah, I changed my mind.

On an unrelated note; it might sound corny, but I want to establish a hi/bye gesture with our rival whenever we meet her (both intentionally or coincidentally). Something that'd look smug and condescending at first, but eventually becomes so commonplace that our rival would feel left out whenever it doesn't happen. Maybe a quick headpat or nose poke? It might get the shippers raring and the fanart spawned from it would be adorable.

We could even use it as a way to convey secret messages that no-one would know (especially the BBEG), or at least notify her that something's wrong.

...am I thinking too deeply into this?
A cute playful wink maybe... Peace sign? Wait are we a girl or a boy? I've just been imagining an androgynous smug cutie capable of fitting both kinds of senpai/older sibling type rival role. Sufficient smug goes beyond such things anyway. Also gembutts are amazing love phos.

I also empathize with the person who said something about wanting to be so disappointed that we stop fighting because she isn't learning anything and such.

[X] Theme

Original music for an original character. That said I'm not done looking at music. This channel is full of og stuff.

From what I can tell of the lyrics they're very relevant too.

Great Duet that sounds like it would fit this anime as either a op/ed or insert song.
Nice BGM or character theme.
Starts off slow, but then it becomes hype battle music with violin.
Daily Life, in the sunshine and away from the shadows.
Ever need music for a Final Boss or some dramatic moment of similar importance that entails total chaos? Here.
Total opening music here. Also here too!
Ending music is neat.
Solemn and introspective music. Gets more hopeful near the middle.
This could be used as basically OP/ED and insert and basically anything. I say we claim it as our own, because it's my fav so far.
More versatile music! And more! This one is sadder than before but still pretty usable for bunches of scenes.
Holy shit have some amazing battle music. And how much more, dunno probably a lot.
This song could be used for a few things, but it's got really depressing vibes even once it speeds up. Though as it goes on there are hints of rising determination and hype too.

I'm okay with that we should probably vote for it when its possible.
I love the music its beautiful but I don't really think it fits here. Our rival is having a 'Come Back Power Up Rage Moment' right now so a fast paced powerful song will fit more, adding to the fact she is a hot-headed genki girl.

From her point of view she's basically been beaten down, and I think the song builds up to her second wind (combined with the situation and rather dark setting) quite well. Also alternate versions of certain themes aren't unknown and it's common to not start just from the actual beginning of a song.

Also rip I can't stop sorting music yay.

I'm voting for the double trap, if only so we can try and re-enact something like the scene from Naruto where he breaks free from Kakashi's trap only to immediately get caught by a trap that was underneath the first one.

Then we can be all smug, "*Sigh* Isn't there anything in that head of yours? I should do us both a favor and take that sword from you if this is all you are capable of."

I want to make it hit home that she'll end up making a net loss if she gets herself killed by just charging in. What's the point if she's just going to suicide? That's such a waste of good potential.

That said I've got a limit to the antagonist I want to show the audience. Nuance is nice dot jpeg, and watchers tend to uh... Well let's just say that sometimes they're thick headed. It's hard to balance [mysterious mean smug but maybe legit helpful???] characters sometimes. Rip.

Also I think I found some very meta-perfect music for our character.
