Zerg in a Fantasy World

Hmm. Okay.

[X] Plan crystals here we come

We don't have the crystals to make a adventurer right now so a adventurer strain would just be a very expensive elite unit right now, it can wait.
Note that we could upgrade our existing biomancer queen to an adventurer. In fact that seems like a good first adventuring unit for us: it's a healer, and if there's anything I know from D&D games it's that it's hard for a group to find a decent healer.

No we can't. The crucial thing needed to turn one of our zerg into an adventurer are the crystals, and we don't have any. We can probably apply the adventurer strain upgrade on the queen true, but since she isn't a real combat unit I'm not sure how much that would benefit us.

As for what unit to turn into an adventurer first... Well, a queen would probably make a decent healer. It might be wasteful of the queen's other abilities though. And healers may tend to end up relatively squishy if we are following standard roles, it might be somewhat more likely to die than some other options.

And turning our biomancy queen into an adventurer would deny us her use as a researcher.

We can, actually; applying crystal to Queen is how we got to biomancer in the first place. Also, GM confirms:

Frig it, to simplify, it starts as a hero unit, and needs a crystal to upgrade itself further. There.

Upgrading the queen would make her a bit like Zagara in HOTS if you ever played that :)
Also note that apparently even without crystals the adventurer strain is already a hero unit; probably can't go further than a level 1 dungeon to start though.

This is true.

@Lost Star - it appears that you are running out of ergs/desire/etc for running this game. How can we make it easier on you? Alternately, how can we make it more rewarding for you?

This is a bit of a terminology issue here.

As I understand it adventurer specifically means an individual on the path of the gods, someone not controlled by the nations who travels to dungeons and has other adventures to advance in strength and skill. It is started by giving a being enough crystals.

There is also the option of giving an individual some but not enough crystals to become an adventurer. This tend to produce magic users with the magic affinity of their race. Dwarves get shamans with earth magic and we get biomancy (on queens at least).

Lastly there is our 'adventurer strain' upgrade. This is simply an upgrade to a zerg unit with the aim of making it more suitable to becoming an adventurer. It makes the unit smarter and bit stronger. Normally for the swarm this is inefficient since the invested resources are worth more than the value increase of the unit, but if the unit is made into an adventurer it might be worth it since it lets us concentrate more value in a single unit.

So while using the adventurer stain upgrade on a unit might make it a more powerful 'hero' unit it does not make it an adventurer.

I like this, it works.

@Lost Star
Now that we invited the Primal into the Pantheon:
  1. Are the larvae at the Primal's temple still part of the hive, or primal Zerg?
  2. After the blessing we got - is there a chance of our units going primal?
  3. Is there another way primal Zerg might show up?
(If one of the answers happen to be 'Yes', we should send our DiploQueen to our neighbours and tell them about primal Zerg.)

Next question:
Whom should we ask to get information about the Vile One? We just poached followers from him - what can we expect for retaliation?
  • For example, can he simple cast a wave of plagues onto our neighbours demanding our eradication to remove it?
  • Can he assemble 10,000 goblins and march them to our location?

Primals can possibly show up when you complete the quest. Until then, nada.

More information on the Vile One would have to be done by asking other people. He couldn't do either of those actions however. The first would piss off other gods. The second would be against his portfolio.

Primals are uncontrolled and could derail our diplomacy, simply by following their nature and potentially attacking our neighbours - whom we have explained our nature (being a hivemind, all Zerg are one etc.). Is that correct?

Nah, Primals would be another 'faction' so to speak. Kerrigan's still the leading girl in your pantheon at the moment, so they will follow her rulings after Dehaka. There's plenty of things that they can fight without getting into issues with your swarm.

I mean, hell, how much do you think the Primals would like to kill Charybdis or any siblings it has?

That's not the point; the point is they look like us, but are not controlled by us but we will be held responsible for them. And I'd really like to read an omake where our diplo queen goes on a roundtrip and explains the 'Zerg but not part of the hive also we told you so a week ago because we pissed off the Goblin maker and needed help from another god in our pantheon.'

Its more that they would make us have to deal with the normal chaos of civilization rather than the perfect control of a hive mind. They will still have social links to us and the other voices that develop in our hive. Society is a beneficial adaption.

That's the key, I think. One thing the Primals never figured out, oddly enough, is the power of community. It's really the only reason Kerrigan was able to ever survive on their planet at all; if even a handful of the stronger Primals had decided to gang up on her she'd have been evicted in short order.
