Someone did give an idea of how my character-idea might fit into one of the Orders and so I decided to just share it since it seems sorta nifty.

Adamantine Arrow sub-faction/group that's basically, the way they described it "boyscouts." That patrol the wilderness setting spirits and problems (of all of the kinds that can wind up fucking with animals and humans) in order, helping and keeping things in something like control, while practicing wildnerness survival, useful crafts, marksmanship, etc, etc in preparation for if trouble ever comes around. If it comes around and they can't just beat it they could fade away, striking and retreating, being all guerillas-with-magic against such a huge threat, as unlikely as it is to happen.

Or at least, that's the general gist I got from their idea.

Maybe with some (this is my idea) silly status-titles like the Boyscouts have. Cub, Eagle, or whatnot. Maybe mix in some philosophy of self-reliance or some mysticism, environmentalism, conservationism or new-age-ism for some of the members. Shake, don't stir.

Hey, anyone see the 2011 NBC Wonder Woman pilot? Given that Beast the Primordial has just come out, I started thinking how Wonder Woman could be a Hero while Veronica Cale is the Beast she's fighting.

Ugh... the horror of Pants to be Darkened...

No, Cale isn't the Beast, that thing calling herself Wonder Woman is the Beast.

Also, thanks to MJ12 Commander for incidentally sorta inspiring me for a character build by the mention of "Old Mage magic is all Matrix-y" stuff.

I made a Life 4/Fate 2/Spirit 1 Mage that's all about the buff/debuff, and getting to play an action hero. You know, rituals to hone the physical body to peak (or just beyond peak) condition and add some long-term luck and then go at it with a pistol, a survival knife and a prayer? And/or curse?

I wouldn't have been inspired without those words, probably. Or at least it wouldn't have come to mind as a character idea.

I'd like a review as well. It sounded fun, and I'd been thinking of buying it. If it's not a good investment though, that'd be good to know before purchasing it.

Yeah, don't waste your money. Thematically bad, mechanically bad, stylistically bad, and the people writing it apparently weren't talking to each other so it's tonally inconsistent from chapter to chapter.

The WoD line really really needs an editor worthy of the title. IMO they haven't done a good line since nChsngeling

Huh, what is this strange line? I might want to check it out :p.

I'm curious too. All I've seen is some rambling on 4chan about the leak, and like hell I'm trusting that.

They have the current draft of the book available on the Kickstarter, that's what they're talking about. It's like 99% of the text in book. And its free.

Ah, Exalted 2e syndrome.

Pity, the idea of the Dragon in his cave of gold collecting princesses is such a stereotypical character concept I wanted to try in a modern world. Might need to see if I can do it as an infernal one day.

Like I said you can get the draft of the book, around 99% of the text in the final product, on the kickstarter page right now. So if you want to check it out but not spend money on it just yet, you can.

I've read everything but the storytelling chapter over the past few days. I have but two thoughts, beast looks like lots of fun and beasts are complete assholes.

The powers are interesting, if maybe a bit op in a few places. Their powers tend to do some terrible things to people but I feel it's in theme for humanity's worst nightmares made real.

Beasts Hungers make it hard to not be a complete bastard. You can be decent but if you get too hungry your soul reaches out and terrorizes people near by in their dreams.

Just read the first bit of it, and already I agree with most of what you. The lack of a coherent theme stands out almost immediately. They seem to flip-flop between having monsters being horrifying villains, and being misunderstood woobies every other page.

Also, how do Beasts not get arrested? I mean, the "horrifying villains" sections of the book seem to require monsters to do lots of terrible stuff on a regular basis. A regular enough basis that not even supernatural powers would be enough to keep from attracting attention. And these types of people don't seem like the type that would have enough influence to be effectively above the law either. How are all of these monsters still walking around outside of prison anyways?

I mean vampires I can understand, as they don't need to really damage their victims to feed, and can thus go long lengths of time without attracting too much attention if need be. Plus they seem like the types that might be able to acquire enough influence to be effectively above the law. Furthermore, they can work through proxies easily enough, while the beasts have to do stuff personally.

Eh, I think it has potential, though it could use a bit of work.

Okay, so maybe it's a lot of work.

If they picked out a coherent theme it has potential, but they really need to hammer out what they want Beasts to be, rather than flip-flopping between actual monsters and misunderstood outsiders. Select one, and them build a theme that works with that idea.

If they're supposed to be misunderstood, then something that needs to be added is a way to satisfy their Hunger in a less dickish way. By all means, make it much easier to just be cruel, and take what you need. Being good shouldn't always be an easy path, but if they're supposed to be good, it should always be an available path for the character. From there you can construct a theme around recognizing the darkness that lurks in humanity, and confronting the struggle against our baser natures.

If however they're supposed to be monstrous rather than misunderstood, the passages where they are portrayed sympathetically seem out of place. If they are truly evil, then let that evil shine through. Attempt to get the player to question whether the nature of the monster he plays is more true to human nature than the facade his character puts up in public. Explore how darkness can live in otherwise normal-seeming lives, and explore the dichotomy between what people seem on the surface, and what they really are.

Some of the hungers would have good secondary themes too. Punishment for instance would be really good for exploring the difference between justice and vengeance, blurring the line between them enough to get the player to think about it.

I mean, the potential is certainly there, but the implementation of the idea is incredibly poor.

Um, is the Beast there all of the time? I mean, are these people chained up? Are we meant to play as someone with a Rape Dungeon?
They do have an example collector who kidnaps people, holds them in their lair until they develop stockholm syndrome, then lets them go. The other way that Beasts stay out of prison is by only picking on people who won't tell on them. For instance, being a teacher and abusing your students, or abusing your children/spouse, whatever.

Also, the Beasts soul is always in the lair, and there aren't any portals out unless the Beast leaves them open. Rape dungeon is really an optimal state for Beasts, which is fun.
