What's so wrong about Geist? I kinda liked it.

The rules are a lot of hot fecal matter and weren't even edited properly before release, so they referred to systems and mechanics which were presumably in earlier drafts.

Sin Eaters are far too powerful for their themes or their common opponents (ghosts hardly being the most threatening NPC class out there).

What the fuck are you actually meant to do in a Geist game?

Geist is lacking silly masquerade, conspiracy pileups, and maximum antagonists the other lines have? :p

No.

You will note that Promethean does not fit those either, and Promethean is amazing.

As for your "silly masquerade", I will note that the major point of the entire World of Darkness is that the supernatural is hidden, and while a setting ruled by immortal Sin-Eater god-emperors could be pretty damn cool, it is explicitly not the game I want to play when I think "World of Darkness".

Promethean's maximum antagonist is literally everyone.
I find Geist's pace not being set by antagonists refreshing.

Promethean's antagonist is your nature. Disquiet is only part of that.

And I however find Geist a wreck lacking in theme, editorial oversight, mechanical competence and literally everything it needs to be a functioning game.

But it has a pretty neat underworld everyone steals for Exalted. :V

I find everyone steals Geist underworld for everything.
Mages poking in underworld: it's Geist underwold.
Vampires poking in underworld: it's Geist underwold.
Changelings poking in underworld: it's Geist underwold.
Dan from down the street poking in underworld: it's Geist underwold.

Because it fulfills the basic framework of "Person with Spirit attached to their soul, Spirit gives them superpowers".
And with Jojo overpowered bullshit abilities are a necessity.

But those abilities are horribly written.

I mean, there are good examples of people with powers from a spirit and we call them Claimed.

Also, Possessed but it's ages ago since I read Inferno so I might be mistaken here, besides Possessed aren't relevant for Jojo.

Spirit powers don't really represent Stands well, as they are, hmmm... Sane.

You know the weird way in which Elemental Marionette creates an elemental egg that hatches into a homonculus that you somehow have to figure out how to use for it's xp's worth? That's the kind of ass-backwards nonsense you want to play JoJo.

I will then respond that Spirit Numina can totally be flavored to be absolutely bonkers too.

But if you really have to do this, why not just use Dread Powers honestly? And then change Willpower for something else?

In terms of intent, I believe you're supposed to deal with the Dead. Be that by patiently working through their various problems to help them pass on, smashing their Anchors, or killing the people responsible for them being dead in the first place. Whichever floats your boat.

In between those jobs, you might be scrounging around the Underworld looking for cool things to take and smashing any Krewe* that comes into your territory that you don't like the look of.

Pretty sure that's what you're supposed to be doing, anyways. Never got around to finishing the book.

*For some reason, the use of the word "Krewe" has always made me think of Geists as the WoD splat version of the Orks. I have no idea why, but it does and it amuses me to think of them in that way.

Step three for *anybody* Vampires/Mages/Werewolves/Hunters/Dan From Down The Street looking to establish territory is getting a Sin-eater on board.
Underworld adventure is too awesome to pass on.
We've fought plenty of fights to keep exclusive access to local spirit guy!
Meanwhile nobody wants to join Changeling on hedge quest :(

Yeah. I'd rather go stomping through the Underworld than bushwacking through the Hedge and its soul-tearing thorns.

I rather like my soul and wish to keep it intact.

Well, sure, but you can avoid the thorns in the company of a Changeling or anyone who knows what to do. Whereas with the Underworld, there are a lot of ways to be trapped there forever with only Geists to get you out, if they bother.

Of course, the Hedge is plenty hostile, and being in either place is just asking for it...

I'm well aware of that. While I've always been more of WoD fanboy, CtL and GtSE are easily the two CofD that have always held my interest.

So why would you want to go in the Underworld in the first place? What can you possibly bring back from there that would warrant a trip to the DMV of the Afterlife? At least in the Hedge you can find some nice magic trinkets and trippy fruit or a nice little demiplane-front property.

I'm certain once Gatekeeper Devices are mass produced *everyone* can enjoy underworld.
Nothing could go even slightly wrong in handing out such technology to laymen!

Yeah and look at the bright side, it's not the WoD Underworld. A place that is at best an unpleasant purgatory sitting on top of the all-consuming force of sheer unmaking that is Oblivion that will one day consume the entire universe.
