Aside from their vow of service to House Iris, their Martial duty is to protect the Andernia system, House Iris' control of it, and the Helmsmen overall. On the battlefield they function as vanguards, seizing objectives and storming heavily fortified positions in close-quarters combat. Their civic duties vary but they all share an interest in the maintenance and improvement of the defensive systems of Andernia. There is a subset of the Order that spends much of their time investigating and debating Helmsmen theology. There is another subset who spend much of their time researching the mysteries surrounding the system and the incident that caused the Helmsmen to shift universes.

Once I realized it was Chorus and not Chaos I was onboard. Folk need some cultural enrichment and highlighting some of the positives around them. Promoting creativity also is a cool mission.

The order of the Undying Chorus embrace their role as warriors of the Helmsmen, yet they do so with a song on their lips. Outside of combat, they are poets, philosophers, musicians, and artists. For in a new universe, bereft of our mother sun, peace can be found in beauty.
Their martial duty is as frontliners. Echoing the style used by the Knights of the Last Bloom in the battle for Bastion, they are equipped and trained to seize critical objectives and assault well-fortified positions.
Their civil duty is as guardians against the malaise that exists in all societies. They are the sworn enemies of the dreary and the soul-crushing. They are sworn champions of novelty, passion, and beauty. Even if they might miss out on some of the everyday joy of a simple life lived well, they do not seem to mind.
Despite their diversity of thought and free-spirited nature, they share a deep interest in the martial arts and a passionate commitment to their ideals that makes them more than a match for other, more internally cohesive units.

One of these days we'll have enough Solarium to make some ship structural or armor with it. In the meantime we try to ramp up to being able to make our almost Gundams and more punchwizards. Maybe we'll be able to make crazy extreme environment mining equipment like a facility for deep sea resource gathering or mid-mantle mining. If you can dig a borehole good enough you could also likely create some mean geothermal plants for power or heating/cooling.

the Order of Iron Truth reads more like that of a 40k Space Marine chapter going purging instead of chivalrous space knights
Are they Brilliance knights that don't want to be Brilliance Knights?

i see my inability to communicate has struck again! not just once, but twice!! ohhh the horror!!!

to clarify, it was meant to be more "zealot scientist with guns, who dislike glitter" but I'll write a short story about them in the future/edit the entry

Another- okay, since both plans are identical and just differ in fluff, I'll treat it like when there were tied plane designs. Recruitment will go for both, but whoever gets their curriculum developed first will take it. It'll double as a peudo-poll on whether knowledge or hope is more popular among the Brilliance Knights.

Cycle 20.2
TIED

"I asked for one, and you bring me two," You immediately complained the moment Radana entered your office. You already knew what was in the datapad thanks to your information taps: a twin set of proposals about your first Order of Brilliance Knights. "They even are requesting the same gear, couldn't they have compromised?"

"I did have a sit down, but both feel very strongly about their causes." Your friend frowned while handing you the electronic device to complete the formality. "What's more, both of them already are attracting a number of followers and sympathizers to advocate for them. Whatever hope we had of resolving this quietly behind closed doors is likely gone, I'm afraid."

"How annoying," You grumbled and went through the motions of reading the electronic reports. Then you grabbed a stylus and scribbled your signature at the bottom of both, along with an addendum to the proposals. "There. Consider it resolved."

Radana blinked and took back the datapad to read what you had done. You took delight at the increasing exasperation that grew on her face, culminating in the noble pinching the bridge of her nose "Violet, are you really just that lazy to offload the decision to them?" She asked indignantly. "You've just turned this into a ridiculous contest of who could work the hardest to complete their Order first. What a farce!"

"Ah, but it's also a way to actually determine which one of them is truly best!" You declared with a smirk. "So think of this less as a contest, and more a trial of their supposed capability. Surely the ultimate winner would be the one with the greatest effort and dedication invested in, and thus be picked so. Is it not a clever way to circumvent this deadlock?"

Your childhood friend didn't seem to think so. "Won't this actually negatively affect things if they rush and race through what needs be done?" She pointed out with a raised eyebrow. "Do you really want to risk the egg on your face when they deploy a bunch of poorly trained and insufficiently disciplined Brilliance Knights out on the field?"

She...had a point. "Then let's add an inspection to it," You graciously conceded with a nod. "Somebody to go over and make sure nothing was skipped out on. Hm, it should be somebody of sufficient rank to impress the seriousness of it."

"Oh, I have the perfect candidate in mind."

"Really?" You beamed. "Good, I'll leave it in your hands to organize then. Be sure that whoever it is, those Brilliance Knights will be definitely showing their best!"

"You need not worry- this individual is sure to make them live up to your standards." Radana politely curtsied before leaving, tapping on the datapad on the way out to likely begin setting it up. You grinned and mentally congratulated yourself on having successfully dodged out of some work, kicking up your feet in ecstatic satisfaction.

Then your desk screen lit up with a notification from one of your information taps. Frowning, you activated it to display the full report, where apparently the Solar Queen of the Helmsman had been appointed to a special inspection event in the future. One that would be sure to be in front of an entire Order of Brilliance Knights.

Your office was thankfully soundproof enough to muffled the agonized scream of your laziness catching up to you.

(Upgrade Building (Solar Drydock- New Helm): 94 +15 (Kat) +12 (Wealth) = 121)

Progress: 4/6. In Progress.

Originally, the plan had been for shrine parts to be gathered in New Helm, then launched up to build onto the drydock piecemeal. It was to be a lengthy construction project that could see the shipyard unfortunately closed for a while, an unfortunate but unavoidable aspect that usually was begrudgingly accepted. After all, trying to build new ships while also surrounded by extensive renovation efforts was asking for a disastrous mishap. So those dockyard workers resigned themselves to being put on leave for a little bit.

That was until Kat took one look at the large crane overlooking the naval construction station, and nervously asked why couldn't they just use that to maneuver a mostly-built shrine into place instead.

Plans were quickly adjusted for this, with the shipyard production managers overjoyed to be able to manufacture a few more hulls while the Prisms carefully assembled the shrine nearby. It had been a challenge and learning experience, including the part where it almost broke orbit to enter the atmosphere, but it was eventually deemed mostly built with just a few finishing touches left. That, and the fact that it still needed to be attached to the dockyard itself.

When the moment came, the large crane that was used to help move ship beams above now swiveled to grab at the shrine floating nearby. There were a few false starts, including one near-disastrous incident involving the clamps nearly compromising the structural compromise of the grabbed building. More adjustments and realizations were had too, such as the worn overworked motors screaming all the while as the shrine was slowly reeled in. If nothing else came from this unorthodox construction method, then at least a list of mentions on what had gone wrong could help for future situations.

That was the takeaway lesson that bounced about Kat's head while she worked on finishing the connection process. Her signature tool was spun about to focus a beam of pure heat into one of the bracket, making sure to smoothly solder and merge both bits into one giant connection. She cut off the heat and studied the results, nodding sluggishly in her sealed suit at the result. "One down, a whole fuckoad to go," She mumbled and began to vector over to the next connection.

"Huh?" The Helmsman's eyes widened at the notice that had just arrived in their inbox, one that featured a regal emblem that had them suddenly very interested. It also happened to catch the interest of the others sitting at the same table at the Trailblazer's Guild.

"Oh, what's that you've got now? It looks super fancy!" The words all came jumbled out in one breath from the Pogoran sitting next to them. As if that wasn't enough, they casually palmed an inhaler and brought it to their grinning mouth to take another hit of their special blend. "Looks official fancy too! Is the noble knight getting a title?!"

"Lay off, they literally just got it. I saw." In contrast, the other one seemed to be more composed at first. But the way they casually swirled an ominous looking concoction with one hand to sip at with subtle glee demonstrated they too were a substance user. "Let the wanderer pick their poison. It'll probably at least taste better than the vapes you huff."

"Vapes?! One of these days, I'll convince you take a hit and get addicted to something other than your potions!"

While the two bickered, the Brilliance Knights opened the digital communique and scanned the letter from their people. A furrowed brow began to develop on their face, only deepening when they reached the part describing the various opportunities now available at home. A heavy sigh escaped their lips, their mind now burdened by a choice they never imagined having anytime soon.

Was it already time enough to conclude their travels here? They glanced back at the arguing pair who were now pulling out even more drugs to compare, then looked back. Maybe it was. The difficult part was choosing who to learn more about now.

"Hm." The immigration officer studied the one in front of them with a curious expression. "What is your purpose of your visit?"

"Work." The applicant fished around in their jacket before withdrawing a WarNet ID card. "Heard there could be some good work around, so decided to try my luck."

The ID card was scanned and soon, the mercenary's profile appeared in the database. With a grunt, the immigration officer dismissed it immediately without bothering to read further and handed back everything. Then they added a small business card on top of it. "When you arrive, call the number. It's a good friend who'd like somebody to help toughen up their batch. They'll pay you well for your time and if you do good enough, you might even get cut into royalties."

The undercover spy graciously accepted the new contact. "Thank you. I'll be sure to call for work."

"Good. May your blade keep sharp. Next." The Helmsman stepped away and proceeded through the security gate, into the boarding passageway to the cruiser just beyond the border checkpoint. Overhead, the intercom repeated an automated message once again.

"This is the final boarding call for all passengers for OR63, destination Corralis…."

Very nice. Honestly this whole update was cool. There was a lot going on at once but it all seemed to fit. Like a montage in a heist movie.
"This is the final boarding call for all passengers for OR63, destination Corralis…."
I don't know why but this moment in particular just really drew me into the world. I could see the terminal in my minds eye. A big passenger ship flying overhead, whilst our protagonist bustles along to their destination, sword on their hip.

Final note: Two different characters rolled 4 Progress! The drydock is guaranteed to be done next cycle and Dorothea is free right now for whatever we want her to do - but my vote will be on building up cells in Orochi so we can do Military salvage. That or getting at least a couple spies into all the Great Houses and taking a peek at what they're planning so we have some idea. We can't look every cycle though or we'll barely get anything done ourselves.

First Senate Meetings
You brightened upon entering the assigned waiting room for the chosen representatives of House Iris. "Oh! We got the ones with the red cushions!" You promptly dropped into one of these said cushions, letting out a pleasured moan at familiar comfort from your childhood. "These are the great ones, I tell you. Much better than the gray cushions most rooms are outfitted with."

"Of all insider knowledge you could have of the splendorous Senate on Mars, this is what you prioritize?" Radana muttered while stepping around to stand behind the couch. "You truly baffle me with what you deem vital."

You gave your best friend a look that mixed hurt and confusion. "You underestimate how stiff those seats are! Come on, sit down and feel how luxuriously soft these are. Why are you standing like that?"

"Because behind the Solar Queen is where I ought to be," She explained and coughed. 'Especially when there are other representatives likely coming to see us and introduce themselves soon."

The mere mention of social interaction had you sitting up with wide eyes, the soft couch now like an iron cage. "Oh," You croaked and buried your head in your hands. "We're having visitors? Who?"

Radana sighed. "If you had actually read the briefing I gave you, you'd know it's all the ones you don't want to upset."

"Fuck!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You plastered on the biggest and widest smile you could muster to disguise your internal screaming. It would be most impolite to upset somebody who looked like they strolled through active warzones for light morning jogs. "Allow me to express my gratitude in reassurance that the United Empire can count upon brave soldiers like yourself to defend her interests."

"Defend? That's a real riot of a joke," The scarred veteran laughed, an artificial element to their voice that likely had to do with the extensive cybernetics that they bore. "Defending's a good garrison contract, but you know where the real money is? Attacking new worlds and getting salvage terms. That's how you get richer and stronger."

You silently noted the incredible variety of augments they bore, and wondered if they had taken them all in conquest then. If nothing else, then they were at least consistent to their aggressive posturings. "I see. I'll keep that in mind in case I ever need the services of your people's famed mercenaries one day," You delicately phrased, eyes narrowing in suspicion.

Their glowing electric eyes lit up and they gave a fanged grin. "Course, Orochi's going to be worth every credit you buy us with. So long as you pay, that is."

"Which suggests that some don't," Radana noted quietly behind your back. "I doubt they seldom get away with it."

"I doubt they live at all," You breathed in the same whisper while giving a polite nod to the departing representative at the same time. Given the lack of reaction or even tactful exit, you knew then that they weren't somebody higher up in their people, likely an ordinary house troop. Was this meant to be a subtle snub on the part of House Orochi?

How vexing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It is a pleasure to meet the rumored Solar Queen," The woman wearing an open lab coat over a formal attire smiled and gestured. "If I might take a seat?"

"But of course," You smoothly replied while hiding your frantic cursing. What a shock now to suddenly swing from a casual lackadaisical talk to something with far more formalities, especially with the way your latest guest elegantly made herself comfortable. "Might I inquire now as to how I have the honor of talking with?"

"Assistant Researcher Veronica of mighty House Ababil," She answered smoothly, hand dipping into a bulging coat pocket to withdraw a small vial. You watched with curious interest the way she swirled about the fumes within, a kaleidoscope of color that she brought to her lips to ingest. "I see that you are unfamiliar with our refined works. Would you be interested?" The scientist offered with a sly smile that instantly had you on guard.

If that wasn't enough, Radana bent low to your ear to offer her wisdom on social interaction, "The concoction may be more potent than anything we're used to. Yet declining could be an insult too."

So you knew to play it off tactfully. "Perhaps later if we happen to come to an agreement on our shared interests," You told with a measured smile. "It wouldn't do to spoil the taste before success."

"Mmh. You do so have a point." She took another dose, then capped the mix to stuff back in her pocket. You had to admit, the messy and stained lab coat gave a striking contrast to the refined suit beneath. "Maybe the taste will be even better once we have shared in triumph on a military campaign together. I do find the fruits obtain in victory tend to be that much more succulent."

You pressed your lips together into a thin line. "I'm sure of it."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In contrast to your previous visitors so far, the woman hadn't said a single word at all ever since she was let in by your aide. You watched her sit down and partake in a cup of a tea set out before her, all the while not saying a single thing. You knew better than to initiate the conversation yourself as well, recognizing the way her cloak fluttered and shimmered to try and blend in with its surroundings.

You wanted one of those.

Finally she finished the cup and leaned back in the seat, studying you for a long while. She gave a polite cough to the side and licked her lips, likely warming up a voice that wasn't used that often among her people. "I...am Speaker Luisa." She coughed again, her vocal chords now fully engaged. "I speak for Tyto. I am this section's liaison with Tyto."

"It's very nice to meet you too," You politely matched with a small bob of the head while your mind crunched the information to help suppress the growing panic. "I confess, I hadn't expected somebody of your rank to be meeting me personally."

"Very unusual indeed," She commented with narrowing eyes. "But I am here on...behalf of another too."

Radana leaned into your ear. "Likely Archon," She whispered with a hint of confusion, indicating this certainly was a deviation from the typical diplomatic script. You caught on swiftly and masked a frown.

A very tactful approach was needed. "I am aware of the special relationship between Tyto and Archon, but did not realize it extend to speaking for one another as well," You cautiously felt out, eyes searching Luisa. "Though perhaps it is instead the norm here and we are simply unaware of it so."

"No." A long silence, then the representative of Tyto remembered they had to talk about it. "They will visit later. I only...request you keep in mind who they rely upon for protection."

Totally not ominous sounding at all. "We'll do so," You answered with a plastic smile.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"...so as you can see, it is ultimately none other than Great House York that shall pioneer the future of the United Empire!" The representative repeated for the fifth time, voice still just as impassioned as the first occurrence they had uttered the same line. "None shall withstand the mighty treads of our holy machines, and all lesser shall be ground into fuel for the next fires of conquest! Would you not agree that we alone are the chosen champions of House Sol?! So join us, swear your allegiance, and reap the harvest of glorious victory together!"

I'm willing to bet that the only chosen things you are for Sol is 'loudest and most annoying voice in the room.' You wanted to scream at that and almost did so, had Radana not lightly tapped your shoulder with her leg to remind you to behave. "We will consider it," You flatly told.

That apparently counted as a win in the books of the jingoist and they strutted out the room like you had just licked their shoe in subservience. The meeting was honestly an amazing insult delivered in a backhanded way from House York to House Iris, only a mere step away from just sending a brochure to serve as a point of contact. At least that would have been far less bothersome, you sourly reflected while rubbing at your ears.

You turned to thank Radana for helping to keep your wits about you, only to find her suddenly jerking awake and alert from where she had been nodding off. The leg nudge at your back had apparently been more from her about fall asleep to the repetitious farce of a first contact meeting. If even a noble diplomat like her found it ultimately dull without reprise, then it was clear that House York wasn't very much interested in Iris outside one thing: the bent knee.

One way or another, it was safe to say they considered you beneath them in every regard.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Last one, and thank goodness it's not any of the Great Houses," You grumbled with a stretch of the arms. "I don't think I could take another moment of blatant propaganda being delivered straight into my face.

"At least Orochi had the mercy to make it quick. York made it a special type of torture," Your best friend commented and finished off a cup of tea she had poured for herself. "Now then, try to not look like you'd rather jump out the window to escape needing to play politics. The visits will soon be over, then it'll be time for the assembly and final arguments. Afterwards will be the votes, the vote tally, the vote resolution-"

"Stop making this day drag on any longer than it has to!" You snapped, then noticed one of your bugs planted in the hallway outside the waiting room going off. "They're here. Right, let's get this over with."

First was the courtesy knock, then the courtesy permission to enter. But where it then broke from the expected routine was that two individuals entered then, instead of one. Your eyes narrowed and you refrained from commenting on it so when the representative from House Archon showed up. The man in a very fine laboratory coat took a seat on the couch while their companion, a servant by the looks of things, stood behind and to the side.

Radana was the one to voice the oddity aloud, acting on her duty as your aide to comment so. "Normally, Her Majesty," You held back a wince at that title, "only meets with one at a time. Might I inquire especially into the presence of a servant in this meeting?"

"I go nowhere without them," The man bluntly told and shifted to lean forwards almost intimidatingly. "And they come at high demand. So there."

"It is a doll," The noble realized after a moment of study. You risked a quick flick of the eyes backwards to note the calm and focused demeanor, along with finger tap that alerted you to an upcoming cue. "A rudimentary service cyberbody. There are security concerns, especially if the connection is not secured. Nor do we have a guarantee on whoever is listening on the other side."

The representative from House Archon growled and stood up. "What an unbending and unwavering attitude for a stubborn diplomat. I will take my leave now, and return when perhaps you will learn to respect the preference of other peoples-"

"That would first require respecting our preferences to speak honestly and truthfully in these talks," You spoke aloud, grabbing the attention of the two. When you were sure their eyes were locked onto you, there was a show of your eyes sliding over from the scientist to the servant. "So let's dispense with the deception and have a discussion with the real representative of House Archon."

A long pause, then the man sighed while the remote-piloted doll laughed, the normally robotic voice somehow acquiring an airy touch to it. "My most sincere apologies, but I had gotten word a most boorish individual had been sent by House York to this Senate, so precautions were made," The doll told with a wink and finger pressed to lips. "Tis necessary to maintain the illusion all throughout our stay on Mars this time."

"Not to mention that you enjoyed being able to walk freely and anonymously among others who were wholly unaware that you were among them," The man muttered while moving behind the couch. With the doll taking the seat on the couch, it was an interesting dichotomy of a professional individual now advising a servant in these talks. "Once again, I apologize for my part in the deception, but whatever the Gale orders, I obey."

"The Gale?" You asked curiously and the doll smiled, green eyes glowing in the moment. "Is that your people's title for their chosen leader then?"

"Not quite. It's one that I more or less acquired for my specialty, one that you can only appreciate if were to behold my true body. But the scale of it so makes it impossible to travel so without extensive prearrangement." They gave a haggard sigh and leaned back on the couch. "Oh, these register as being quite comfortable."

"Rest assured they are," You told with a quiet smile before relaxing slightly too. "Though I assume you do lead House Archon so?"

"Indeed, I am the self-thinking intelligent system so chosen among peers to carry out executive duties. By the by," They shifted slightly to look at Radana. "One of said peers was the one picked to be honored with installation of those gifted parts. I would pass on a word of thanks to the most generous diplomat responsible for arranging it so."

Radana gave a perfect smile that had just the right amount of genuine warmth to it. "I am glad to hear it so," She told before giving a curious look. "Though if I would ask, why did it not go to you?"

"My systems didn't really need it so much, so I decided to be nice and raffle it out to somebody who could gain far more processing cycles out of it than I would. Which in turn, did help boost my popularity just a bit."

"Gale Valya," Their aid calmly interjected, "You received the private loyalty and support of the Mountain for it so. It was a momentous step in break isolation, so please don't shrug it off that casually."

"Oh, you know my prioritization settings never save. That's why having some humans around helps." They turned to you now with a considering look. "Maybe we could do with more mortals about, especially ones from beyond our borders. That could be interesting."

"An interesting proposition," You allowed and put a hand on your chin in thought. "Though I ask we not rush into these things. Especially considering your overlord."

"Ah, right. They'd probably be annoyed if we were friends too quickly." Valya thought on it some more before standing up and dusting their service outfit. "But I do hope we do get to know each other better in time and that we can maybe open up to new friends. Just be sure to offer much, and it should help me convince others to try a shot at this 'trade' idea."

- Who the Houses sent was a dice roll, and there were both crit fails and crit successes. I think it's pretty clear which one is which.

York really portrayed themselves as insufferably Boorish. Orochi and Ababil were as violent in their rhetoric as we might've expected but at least we could maintain relatively normal relations - with Ababil in particular if these introductions were anything to go by.

By comparison to the other Great Houses Archon was almost pleasant. They introduced themselves and basically warned us away from their vassal. You could see that as them wanting to maintain their hold on Tyto but it seems like it was more that Archon wanted to protect them - a good attitude for an overlord to take towards their vassal.

Tyto however were outright cordial. Well, after that initial deception of course. Good on Violet for picking that out. We learned that their society is headed by AI supercomputers, and we met the overall leader of Tyto and of the AI. They seemed quite open to trade and improving our relationship. As long as we don't have any problems arising over Asenmach I am fairly well-convinced that House Tyto will be a firm friend of ours in the future.

I'm not sure what the assistant meant when he mentioned that the gift to the "Mountain" was a momentous step in breaking isolation. It seems like the Mountain is an AI and that the titles the AI hold are named after natural phenomena. Did the assistant mean it was a step in breaking the isolation between the Mountain and Gale Valya, between Tyto and House Iris, or between Tyto and the Empire at large? I'm leaning towards the latter two given that the Gale seemed to refer to the Mountain as someone who was of lower status than then but within the same hierachy.

Good analysis, but you swapped the names of Tyto and Archon there.

I was going to post a preview of your first foray into politics, then my computer keyboard decided to have a mutiny. How annoying, especially because I don't have a backup, I'll need to go and hunt one down.

A mutiny? That's the other quest! Jokes aside that is a real shame Celeshiro. I hope it hasn't caused you too much bother otherwise.

I flip over my keyboard from time to time and shake it for lunch money. This seems to keep it in line by reminding it who runs this racket.

First Senate Session
The rest of the meetings passed quickly after the representatives of House Archon took their leave. You met with eager and grateful private business owners and influential citizens who resided in your territory. These were your actual voting representatives, happy to demonstrate their support for your agenda by leasing their votes to you today. It was a blur of shaking hands and plastic smiles, enough so that your cheeks were aching by the time the last one left.

Immediately your body lost all tension and you tiredly slumped into the couch, moaning into the cushions. "Ugh, there are just way too many people!" You complained to your unperturbed aide. "Are they really all our voters? No way were we able to amass so much for our very first attendance!"

"It may have to do with our rather...unorthodox debut to the locals. But more importantly, your policies on internal growth have been incredibly popular so," Radana reasoned out with a finger tapping her chin. "You've successfully juggled between both tradition and advancement, appealing to both sides of those wondering of where to go. So in that regard, little wonder you've earned their popular as distributed and allocated by the committees here."

"I really didn't ask to be popular at all. In fact, I would rather like it if I were much less so," You grumbled and crossed your arms childishly. A somber echo flickered over your face for a moment. "And I wonder if I deserve it at all after what I've been forced to do to maintain the balance so. To suppress and destroy an opinion so the others think better of me, was it worth it? Would they still support me even if they knew the truth?"

Your best friend had no easy answer to that and closed her eyes in thought. But before either of you could dwell or sink further on the dark memory, the communication console in the waiting room lit up with a notification. You didn't even need to glance to know what it was for, the distinct chime enough to inform you of the occasion. Slowly, you rose from the soft seats and straightened yourself out, the expression of doubt washing away into cool focus.

Radana matched your step to the room's exit, only giving a single parting mention to the topic. "What is the greater sin: to regret an irreversible sacrifice forever or to let it go to waste?"

You answered instantly. "To make sure that such sacrifices will eventually not be needed one day. And to do that...I'll be willing to rise up to the occasion and make the whole United Empire a puppet if need be, beginning with this First Senate."

The representatives of House Iris made their way now to their assigned position in the Senate, which was a plain looking balcony amid several others. It was at first glance rather mundane and innocuous enough, perhaps built with the idea of what would be most non-offensive to the varying cultures that made up the United Empire. Yet House Sol did not settle for such mere equality, and poured a hint of their special attention into these balconies for their honored guests that may have very well traveled across half the galaxy to be here.

The moment you stepped into the area, hidden scanning systems activated and verified the identities of the two women in the balcony. Moments later, optical projection systems activated across the drab and plain looking surroundings to transform it into a more familiar sight to you. Your breath caught in your chest for a moment when the procedure was complete to reveal the House Iris Senate seat now resembling a familiar balcony perch, complete with twists of solarium engravings.

It was all an illusion that could be easily applied to any seat should they be reassigned or reshuffled, but it was a familiar one that had tugged at your heart for a moment. Radana gave a subtle nod of the head to your side, pleased her extensive work in recreating the article was so successful. "Twas His Late Majesty's preference to address his people from a perch next to the palace back on Helm," Your friend recalled and then turned your way. "Seeing as you don't have one yourself or an equivalent for public talking, I took the liberty of applying an inheritance. I trust you don't mind."

"Not in the slightest," You absently told and ran your hand along the faux stone. How many times had you seen your sire address his peers of other Houses like this? How many times had you watched warily, hoping you'd never be up here in the same role?

Yet here you were, and while the reluctance was still there, you weren't going to shy away from your duty now. Solemnly, you put both hands against the railing and straightened up, eyes surveying the swiftly-filling Senate. More balcony seats rippled and changed when others arrived, some of them you recognized. Many you didn't, but you knew that those were likely just watchers in attendance including media outlets who were more than eager to capture the upcoming debates.

A sudden glint of green met your eyes and you found yourself staring at the servant doll that Gale Valya was still controlling. They winked and pressed a finger to their lips, earning an exasperated shake of the head from their aide who was still appearing as the public face. Idly, you noted their seat now more resembled something like a mechanical gantry, one that wouldn't look out of place in a massive warehouse or garage.

The movement all suddenly stilled then when at the very center of the Senate which all the balconies faced, individuals stepped forth in varying fine clothes and attires that likely set new fashion trends throughout the United Empire. These were members of House Sol, people who you eyed warily and wondered if they were hatching their own plots. Something to perhaps consider on your end.

But at the center of them was a familiar figure, albeit now wearing a vastly different outfit from since you last saw. Loose and flowing robes hid most of their features, and the massive relic crown that sat upon his head also too obscured his face. But the way he walked towards his seat in the Senate was unmistakably, one that had others standing in attention for the revered line that broke humanity from an era of loss, despair, and isolation.

The Stellarch took his seat and stared out to face the gathered representatives. His hand came out and gestured to herald a declaration. "I, Stellarch of the United Empire, declare the First Senate to now be in session. This forum will now hear what burdens you, and if relief may be offered so."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ever since the time of my great ancestor, the Free States have continued to be an...antagonistic contrast to the United Empire. A collection of factions that reject the hope that there does exist potential for common ground between all, and view the Age of Troubles as a welcomed trial instead of tragedy." The veil attached to the crown hid the facial expression, but the way the young Stellarch's hand curled up into a fist was enough of an indication to their personal thoughts. "So it has been that the United Empire has always been at odds with the Free States to varying degrees of hostility. But for a while now, we have been able to negotiate a tentative peace with them for a price.

"But now the time comes to question if said peace is worth it. The Senate will now hear arguments for such, beginning with the representative of House York."

You almost felt your eyes roll back into your skull at the sight of the annoying individual who had thoroughly wasted your time earlier. Given that it seemed to be a shared reaction across the other representatives, you had a feeling that the others were none too impressed either. But surely, now in front of the Stellarch, they would reign in their rhetoric-?

"It is of Great House York's opinion that we maintain the ceasefire, only if so we may later reap the cost a hundred-fold later through the utter crushing and harvesting of the Free States!"

It sounded like they had not and they tragically launched into a drivel then that had many eyes immediately glazing over, though a few listened halfheartedly. "The time of peace has given time for the mighty harvesters of our people to fatten and plump. But were we to have another period to continue, then it has been projected that then our mighty fortress-machines shall be unstoppable." They pumped their hand energetically. "So it is of the official opinion of House York that a minor sacrifice ought to be made for now in preparation of all-out conquest that will surely crush the Free States once and for all. Obviously we will need to dedicate our resources towards our buildup, so we will rely upon others to play for time for now, including even paying the tribute should it be necessary to maintain the deception."

They indicated they were finished and the Stellarch gave a simple stare before turning his head to the next talker. "The Senate new recognizes the offered rebuttal by House Ababil."

"My thanks." The Assistant Researcher that you had met earlier pulled and straightened out her coat, likely gathering her thoughts before committing. "While it is naturally appealing to totally crush the enemies of state, it comes at the sacrifice of useful assets that would be in far better hands locally than for a flimsy distraction. I see two critical issues with the plans presented by House York that I would like to elaborate on now.

"Firstly, while we would have a time to buildup, the same could very well be said of our opponents." Veronica studied the audience in the Senate with a tap of her hand against the side of her head. "We should not assume that they are not idle as well, and they will take the resources we give them to make their own preparations. There is no guarantee that they will be so easy to crush as claimed by House York, which leads into the next point of contention- that quite obviously, this plan entirely hinges on the surety of their fortress-machines.

"Leading then into the belief that this is merely a ploy for House York to wage war and increase their standing-" The accusation was cut short by the Stellarch abruptly raising a hand, a mix of shock and fear suddenly coming across Veronica's face.

"This line of thought deviates from the topic discussion at hand," The moderator sternly told and motioned. "Either rephrase it, or conclude your argument."

"...I have no further additions then." You shifted in your seat and wondered if you should speak up now to lend an alternate point of view about keeping the peace at a cost. But to speak openly now was to practically commit already, and you wanted to see where the winds were blowing when the next topic of significance came around. So you held your tongue and simply watched.

Besides, speaking up was only going to draw the eyes of the public onto you, and wasn't that a living nightmare to you. Probably even worst than the dream you had about Radana asking you to make her some coffee. That had been something that definitely woke you up in cold sweat.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Next up is a topic that is sponsored by House Sol itself," The Stellarch announced and tapped a button on his seat. A digital copy of the proposed bill appeared on the railings of the various balconies, projected by the same holographic technology that gave flavor each seat. "It has come to light that the United Empire is in need of funding to continue supporting the needs of its member states of both small and large. We understand the hesitance to levy taxes though, and so turn to an alternate source. There exists vast deposits of abandoned wealth that sit in accounts that have gone unused or become forgotten due to various circumstances, either through unresolved inheritance or illegal accumulation.

"These credits, we believe, would be far better put to use by the United Empire in improving society for all. Rest assured we do not mean to immediately seize these fortunes without recourse or repayment- our plan would rather instead do so piecemeal, through a bond system that these accounts would be automatically subscribed to." The Stellarch leaned back in his chair and watched. Moments later, he saw the light come on and gestured. "We will now hear arguments for and against this bill, beginning with the representative of House Tyto."

The words of Speaker Luisa came out slowly and sluggishly, a visible effort on display to put into words their thoughts. "We...agree. So much wealth, so much money...needs be better utilized. For the good of all." She inhaled sharply to power through to make their parting thoughts. "Welfare from too much. Agreed."

Barely a moment later after she withdrew, none other than everybody's favorite representative leapt up and signaled their intention to counter. The Stellarch clearly waited out the courtesy timer before acknowledging them with a sigh. The one from House York then spoke, ferociously and heatedly in comparison to the languish attitude of House Tyto. "This is blatant strong arming to rob the fruits of labor from those who worked the hardest to make these fortunes! They save all this while in hopes of amassing enough for a dream, and now you make to take it from them!"

"House York vehemently disagrees and reminds the assembly that it is they who worked so ceaselessly is why we are here!" They raised a hand to shake about threateningly. "If you try to take what we've rightfully taken from those Orochi invaders-!"

"This argument now delves into personal attacks which are not tolerated in the Senate!" The Stellarch snapped, the line's famed tolerance clearly reaching a breaking point with the asinine representative. That, or he could read the way some in the room were looking mightily temptingly at personal sidearms and wanted to swiftly ward it off Maybe a combination of both."You will control yourself, or I will have you removed from the chamber until all debates are concluded," He threatened, looming from his chair without moving.

Thankfully that did seem to shut up the House York representative finally and they sullenly concluded their time. The fiery exchange certainly soured any further debate on the bill, and so the Senate continued on with the rest of the day's topics without returning to it. You weren't sure if it was right for House Iris to comment either way on it, given it had been their aid to you that had sparked this act.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Stellarch reviewed the completed agenda and nodded. Then he stood up, the motion earning immediate attention from the representatives and audience alike, even those whose attention had been waning while the talks had dragged on. They now gave their full attention to the figurehead of the United Empire address the room as a whole. "It would appear then we have reached the end of our list about topics of discussion for this sector. Now comes final deliberations among yourselves before casting your votes to made your will known. But before so, I would like to say a few final words.

"This is but only the First Senate I hope to have the pleasure hosting and moderating in my time. Even then, already I feel a great deal satisfied, able to see each of you engaging in earnest dialogue with one another even on topics of heated debate." He spread his arms wide. "That is what the United Empire was founded for, to provide the grounds for cooperation or disagreement, whichever they might be. You would not see the likes of these open debates in the Free States, who would do it all behind closed doors in selfish games of politics against one another.

"They have no Senate, no moderator, no neutral party to ensure both sides are fair. No, they skip voting entirely to play their separate self-serving agenda, only coming together to resist our reach." He then dropped his hands and sighed. "Yet do I hope, like the great founder, that one day we will achieve peace and understanding with them. The only question now is how far that desire is, and how far flung in the future it might be.

"Whatever the answer to that, I leave in your hands today for this sector as is your right to self-determination. As ever and always, House Sol shall respect and carry out whatever final decision is made." The Stellarch sat back in his chair and gestured. "So then, make your choice and cast your votes now to steer the ship of the United Empire."

Total House Iris Votes:
14

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Back in gear, hope that it still comes out smooth despite the disruption.
- You can check the First Senate Primer as a reference to what the predicted votes were going to go for the debate. While this time is probably pretty straightforward, keeping an eye on developments between the Primer and the Session is necessary to figure out if somebody is swapping their vote on a topic.
- There's a layer of meta irony in making a vote plan to vote and then voting on it a quest. How quaint.

14 hour moratorium to debate and vote.

I mean, Recuperation of Assets should work for us, because we just got here, we shouldn't have much in the way of assets that can be recouped, so it's easy ways to win brownie points.

Renewal of the Ceasefire though... Hmm. I don't think we have a dog in this fight?

Are our votes in total? Or per topic?

A Brief Outline on Expected Topics of Debate and Discussion for the First Senate Session

TOPIC: Renewal of the Ceasefire Agreement with the Free States.
Following the untimely and sudden passing of the previous Stellarch, a ceasefire agreement was tentatively struck with the so-called 'Free States' that refuse to join the United Empire. For regular payments sent their way, all offensives were halted on both sides but not quite yet resolved. It is now time to debate whether it is time to renew the agreement and perhaps revise it to something more permanent in this area, or if we are unwilling to pay a ransom any longer to these upstart rebel states.

IF PASSED: House Sol loses ten (10) Industry, Resources, and Wealth.

IF FAILED: All Free States begin at Standing: Hostile for all Houses of the United Empire.

YES
Great House York (8 votes)

NO
Great House Ababil (20 votes)
Great House Orochi (10 votes)

ABSTAIN
Great House Tyto
House Archon

TOPIC: Recuperation of Lost Assets for the United Empire.
One of the Stellarch's declared ambitions is to see the United Empire flourish economically, a difficult task given the recent personal expenditures of House Sol. To make up for this setback, House Sol hereby sponsors an act that would see an audit of abandoned or forgotten financial assets across this region of the United Empire to push forfeiture and seizure to better society instead.

IF PASSED: All members must pass a Wealth check. Depending on the levels of success or failure, House Sol will either gain or lose Wealth from each member.

IF FAILED: House Sol loses five (5) Wealth and Influence.

YES
Great House Tyto (20 votes)
House Archon (10 votes)

NO
Great House York (12 votes)
Great House Orochi (10 votes)

ABSTAIN
Great House Ababil

THE SENATE WILL CONVENE FOR FINAL DELIBERATIONS AND VOTING ON CYCLE 20.
This is the primer for those who might be unfamiliar.

I mean, Recuperation of Assets should work for us, because we just got here, we shouldn't have much in the way of assets that can be recouped, so it's easy ways to win brownie points.

We also have an agenda:
Increase Sol Wealth to 70 to earn boons from the Stellarch!

Renewal of the Ceasefire though... Hmm. I don't think we have a dog in this fight?
Nor directly. But overall the Council States seem far more pleasant and agreeable than the warmongers that make up three quarters of the Great Houses. We also live in this sector. The Great Houses only have part of their power here. Hence the continuation or cessation of hostility would have a far greater effect on us than it would on them.

But it would also decrease the Stellarch's Wealth - directly going against our agenda - and seems very unpopular to the point that we couldn't get it to pass even if we committed all of our votes.

To be frank, I don't think we will be able to sway the outcome of one vote one way or the other. But if I'm not mistaken, we do get Goodwill with other Houses if we vote for the same things as them. As such this presents a good opportunity to get a "free" chunk of Goodwill with Tyto and Archon.

If we desire peace with the Free States, which I personally do, I think that is best kept close to our chest. We are a weaver of webs and lies. No need to let others know our thoughts when it does not benefit us. We can still build friendly relations with the Council States later. It will just take time. Quite a lot of time, as most diplomatic efforts do, but time nonetheless.

Honestly if we ever get the chance I'd love a character with diplomacy and stewardship or diplomacy and learning.

Iirc recuperation of assets won't have a mechanical effect on our Wealth. The seizure (forced bond-buying?) is of criminal and abandoned assets and funds.

Which we should still have a fair few of. Our people are relative newcomers to this universe but we've still been living in Andernia for twenty years. Thats definitely enough time for money and things to get lost in the cracks of society.

I'd go with Keep it Cool. Avoid touching that third rail of war, focus on the asset grabbing and support the Stellarch.
