Alright, Vote Called. A Dawn Caste samurai from the Crab Clan it is! Next up, archetypes and other details!
-/-
The Crab Clan has never been especially discriminating when it comes to recruiting new samurai into its ranks. If you can fight with even a modicum of skill and possess the courage necessary to stand against the creatures of darkest nightmare without breaking, then the Defenders of Rokugan are happy to have you. Men, women, high born or low, all can be found among the ranks of their samurai, and the Clan takes an almost perverse delight in offending the rest of the Empire with its relatively lax standards.
Vote One - Personal Details
Are you male or female? This has no influence on your choice of archetypes, but may well influence how other characters in the Quest perceive and treat you.
[ ] Male
[ ] Female
Which family do you hail from? This has no explicit mechanical impact, but will most assuredly influence your character's personality and background.
[ ] Hida - The ruling family, and the source of much of the stereotypes that the Crab labour beneath, Hida are dour, serious folks at the best of time. They hold their duty to be sacred above all else, and spend every moment of every day working to uphold it, even at the cost of their social standing and mental health.
[ ] Hiruma - Quiet, studious and methodical, the Hiruma are often of slimmer build and sterner temperment than their cousins among the rest of the Clan. Many think of them as cold and unfeeling, never seeing the burning rage and endless zeal that lies behind the stern masks of a Hiruma samurai's unflinching expression.
[ ] Kaiu - Famed for their engineers and siege masters, the Kaiu are perhaps the most 'intellectual' of all the Crab families. They prize foresight, meticulous planning and methodical excellence above all, and can often be relied on to keep picking away at problems and obstacles that others have surrendered to for years at a time.
[ ] Kuni - Grim, sinister and more than a little mad, the Kuni have the unenviable duty of truly understanding their ancestral foe. They dissect monsters, study the battle plans of the Lost and hunt down dark cults across the length and bredth of the Empire. Even their fellow Crab view the Kuni with a degree of wariness, but this is a sacrifice the family is more than prepared to make.
[ ] Yasuki - Often thought of as the 'odd one out' when considering the families of the Crab, the Yasuki hold the unappealing duty of providing financial and logistical support to the rest of the Clan. They are merchants, administrators and diplomats, and while few earn the respect of the Empire at large, without their diligent efforts the eternal war with the shadowlands would falter and collapse within the year.
What is your personal name? Just about any kind of name can be found among the Crab, even those of Gajin origin, but the QM reserves the right of veto over particularly ridiculous choices.

Feel free to suggest other elements of the background here. This will not be made into a formal vote, but I will bear it in mind when I come to formalising the character sheet and personality.
Vote Two - Archetypes
IMPORTANT NOTE - This section of the vote is being done via ranked choice voting (the above is not). Rate the following from 1-5 in terms of your personal preference.
[ ] [Archetype] Defender of the Wall. You are the very embodiment of what others think of when they picture the Crab Clan - a towering, muscular warrior obsessed with defeating the monsters of the shadowlands and sparing little thought for anything beyond your duty. Your prowess, resilience and sheer will are formidable indeed, but you have little skill or interest in wordcraft or the courtly arts.
[ ] [Archetype] Hunter of Monsters. Your kin guard the Wall, but you have never been content to wait for the enemy to come to you. Instead, you ply your bloody trade within the Shadowlands themselves, hunting man and beast alike through some of the most hostile terrain known to man. Some think your grim humour and bloodthirsty enthusiasm a sign of incipient madness, but you care not for what they think. Your brothers know the value of what you do, and that is justification enough.
[ ] [Archetype] Grizzled Sensei. You once served on the Wall with the rest of your kin, but after a devastating injury you retired to take up a support role and train the next generation of warriors. Many of the Clan's greatest heroes have passed through your Dojo, and you find endless amusement in the way that these mighty giants still quake at the sight of your grey hair and merciless frown.
[ ] [Archetype] Bare-Fisted Bodyguard. The Crab are not fond of the Courts or those who populate them, but they recognise the necessity of such samurai all the same. You have a modicum of courtly training, but your real value has always been as a champion and yojimbo, protecting your cousins from honourable challenge and base assassination alike. You take satisfaction from such things, of course, but little pleasure... save for those times when you are called upon to represent your Clan in the sumo ring.
[ ] [Archetype] Siege Master. A verifiable genius, you have spent years leading the armies of the Crab into battle, both against your ancestral enemies to the south and against the weaker Clans to the north. You are a master of your Clan's slow and relentless style of warfare, can inspire and direct your kin in battle with a veteran's confidence, and have acquired something of a reputation among friend and foe alike for the sheer inevitability of your eventual victory.
