SayakaQuest Thread 10: Glory To The Death

[x] Attack. Give Kyouko every opportunity to kill this thing.
[x] Only heal when you have relative moments of safety. If it means only partially healing your arm, so be it.

Its like a cockroach but it can murder two entire small countries instead of eating leftover pizza crust in the couch.

Please work.

That's how these quests work. The possibility that our ingenious plans won't work. Probably because we didn't sacrifice enough virgins to the dice gods.

Dude, I sacrificed a mountain of gold, silver, and oil to them along with my firstborn and they still gave me a nat 1. Do not expect anything good.

Well, I just caught up on this quest and I can't help but shake the feeling that we are going about the entire fight wrong. Yes, we are supposed to be fighting the doll, the main issue is how.

This entire fight is a tragic play put on by Walpurgisnacht, right? Well if I remember my 10th grade English class right the one thing common in all Shakespearean tragedies is the main character's fatal flaw. This blemish in a character is the one thing that the protagonists battles with on a consistent basis, and in a tragedy will almost always lead to their demise.

Thus it is not an unreasonable jump that the main character is essentially untouchable until their fatal flaw leads to their demise. So the only way to defeat the doll is to end the play by exploiting its flaw.

As for why I believe this is important? Gen Urobuchi made sure to give every character in Madoka Magica a fatal flaw:

Madoka: Selflesness ==> The creation of the Law of Cycles
Horuma: Love for Madoka ==> The creation of the Hormucifier
Sayaka: Self-righteousness ==> Her unwillingness to receive help from Homura or Kyoko
Kyoko: Selfishness ==> Sayaka's demise
Kyubey: Greed ==> Rebellion

Of course, that's it! It is so simple.

[q] Mock Walpurgisnacht's annoying laughter
-[q] Throw in some insults about its stupid face while you are at it

Ok more seriously, that might of been good to try much, much earlier in the fight, but we have run out of any wiggle room to experiment with any other approach (at least for this life). We have to stick with what we know for sure works (brute forcing it for now), as we likely can't afford any cost of "switching tactics" at the moment.

Maybe something to keep in mind if we do die and have to use our last life.

[x] Rending Blade.

[ROLL: 54+40]
[DOLL DEFENSE ROLL: 44+70]

You rush in to attack. You slash at a foot with a haphazard swing. The doll sidesteps it quickly, before she drags a foot across the ground and extends her last blade.

[DOLL ROLL: 57+70]
[DEFENSE ROLL: 27+45+30]

You move as much as you can, but it isn't enough. There's a screeching of steel and metal, before your sword arm is sliced off violently. Your sword flies backwards along with your severed arm, complete with a spray of blood.

You're sent backwards by the hit, widening your stance just to stay upright. You shake your head and look up, just in time to see the Doll preparing to kick you again. But just before the Doll can follow through, Kyouko slaps the flat of her spear across the Doll's face with a loud clang, jerking the head to the side violently.

Your girlfriend then stabs into the face, and uses her polearm as a handle to keep herself from slipping off of the Doll.

Meanwhile, you stumble to your feet, using your head as leverage to get back up, before you spit out some blood. You're not in good shape, to say the least.

[x] Only heal when you have relative moments of safety. If it means only partially healing your arm, so be it.

[2][DOLL FOCUSES ON YOU]

Even with Kyouko hanging on her cheek, the Doll gives you another vicious sweep of her legs. You leap over the first leg as blood spills from your new wound, before the second one misses you by inches. You can feel the adrenalin pumping through your veins; the Doll is not giving you any time to heal.

[OPTION SELECT]

[] Attack it.

[] RUN AND HEAL.

[] Keep its attention.
