SayakaQuest Thread 10: Glory To The Death

I guess what I am trying to say is that I do want to help Kagura, but we can't afford to do too much or else we put everyone else at risk.
However, now that I thought about it some, I agree we aren't at that tipping point yet.

Really don't think reassuring her that she's gonna live will work. She spiraling and she hates herself right now. She doesn't give a shit if she lives.
Yeah we fucked up. All things considered, it could've been a lot worse.
Actually really nice on Moid's part to end that update before we fucked up too hard. A meaner GM would have let the conversation end and had her try to get to her gem to kill herself.

Edit: Awwww. The dice gods do care!

Bah, I get in just after the slappin' update. Oh well.

Might want to point out to her that everyone is still alive? And that Sayaka can heal them? Because she did do a bit of a number on Chou.

I'm guessing that her scream is the aftereffect of the realization that hits after the mind control goes away; not so much the trauma of fighting Nanami again.

Let's try re-wording this. We're not in timestop so we need comforting but also quick. Ideally with a jot of fire to get her moving. We have something like 8 minutes till Wally kills the city, we can't really spend more than a minute either way on this one way or the other. I figure we get one or two tries at this before we knock her out and keep her gem on hand till after the battle.

[ ] Shout: "Get the wounded over here!"
[ ] Cleanse her, it'll make her feel a bit better.
[ ] "We can't change the past Kagura, but we can make up for it. Here we have a chance to help save tens of thousands of people. Tonight we have a chance, a rare chance to do real good. Tonight we can be heroes. If you seek meaning, in your life or your death then help us Kagura. Help us end this. We need you. Your friends need you."
[ ] Dramatic offering of your hand to her.

[jk] "We need you." *Dramatic offering of her own arm to her*

[] No, no... <deep breath> I'm sorry. I shouldn't yell at you like that.
[] We're all under a lot of pressure right now, and having to fight old friends isn't easy. Being forced to fight the friends you still have has to be worse.
[] But! They're all alive. I can heal them, get everyone patched up. Everyone looks bad, but believe me, I've been through worse.
[] Everything's going to be OK. Let me get your arm back on you. Just focus on your breathing for a few minutes — don't think of anything at all — and I'll have everyone back over here so that you can see that they're OK.

Is she feeling guilty about that, though? Do we even know if she had to fight her friends, or if she was just commanded to kill herself? I think it's the latter, but I'm not sure.

Nanami did not have mind control powers dammit.
Emotion deadening.
Not mind control.

How are you getting "commanded to kill herself" from that?

We don't know. I'm going on the assumption that it's an analogue of their behavior after we killed Nanami the first time — they were horrified at the actions they'd taken. From the way Kagura was holding Nanami up, I'm guessing that she was acting as Nanami's 'second', fighting against the other girls of the team. The setup doesn't really make any sense, otherwise.

Also we just burnt through a cleanse. Can't we monitor her gem and cleanse when it starts looking more dangerous?

Cleansing now is just a waste when we haven't stopped the spiraling.

Not mind control, but.. perhaps selective emotional deadening? She left Kagura's feelings for the real Nanami, while deadening her feelings for everyone else. In that sense, it would be Kagura's own 'choice' to protect Nanami from the others, whom she would just perceive as obstacles.

Maybe we could get Kagura's friends to help comfort her? I mean, I'm no expert on this sort of thing, but that seems like a solid plan of action.

Gadjo's variant seems good. Any nitpicks of it?
This bit:
[x]Get up. You're going to live and so are your friends, and so's everyone else, but you have to get up and fight for that to happen.
I'm pretty sure her friends are mostly trying to commit suicide in this attack. Those that survive might attempt it afterwards. Probably preferable to avoid reminding her of that.

This is really hard because we don't know this girl. When we did social-fu on Kyouko and Homura and the others we at least had metaknowledge to avoid the landmines, but we just don't know what will set this girl off. There's like 3-5 horrible things that it could be and we don't know which ones will motivate her or destroy her. I mean, it's clear her main thing is getting Nanami into it and killed but we can't use that to help her without seeming grossly manipulative. Then there's the (literally) sacrificing innocents thing and the thing where all her friends want to die. Finally we have the possibility she just tried to kill her friends with the help of a familiar.

It's a tough one. I would do a frankenvote with bits from mine Gadjo and Kinematics but the clock is ticking and that much talking might cost too much time. Arg.

Have I missed anything about her emotional state?

Except that's all the more reason to tell her they'll live. The suicide thing clearly won't keep them fighting any more, so a new approach is needed.

I'm thinking it was because she was feeling guilty over nanami's death in the first place, because of what they had done.
And when you're already seeking some form of death, and you see a cruel echo of the girl you got killed, and you know you can do a strong suicide attack that would kill you and help the fight by killing her....

And the reason Ran was pinned to the rock was because Kagura didn't want her trying to interfere in the suicide attack, she didnt want her to get caught up in her noble deathseeking.

Not mind control, but.. perhaps selective emotional deadening? She left Kagura's feelings for the real Nanami, while deadening her feelings for everyone else. In that sense, it would be Kagura's own 'choice' to protect Nanami from the others, whom she would just perceive as obstacles.

God dammit why think up complicated lessons based off might have been selective powers.

Stop assuming its fucking mind control you guys when it's not.

It was a suicide attack. She didn't want her friend to get caught up and die, so she had to stop her.

It's not "mind control turncoat" its just a death seeking girl trying to kill herself.

So more like this: (stole a line for frankenvote)?
[x]Keep an eye on her gem at all times. Cleanse when it starts to get too dark (>60%)
[x]Don't be sorry, we just had to see an old friend, too. But that wasn't Nanami. She was nothing like her. That thing up there just copied what she looked like to mess with you, and it has mocked her memory and the memory of everyone else we just had to fight. Nobody mocks our friends.
[x] We can't change the past Kagura, but we can make up for it. Here we have a chance to help save tens of thousands of people. Tonight we have a chance, a rare chance to do real good. Tonight we can be heroes. If you seek meaning, in your life or your death then help us, Kagura. Help us end this. We need you. Your friends need you. This city needs you.
[x]They're all counting on you. It's not too late. We can do this.
[x]If she gets up to fight, cleanse her if she's over 50%.

Edit: added in a line about cleansing her when it's over. We don't want her fighting over half corruption anyway.

I like it. It channels both vengeance against the monster abusing her friends memory and an appeal to her better nature. Works for me. Possibly toss in a "Let's get this fucker" but that's less important. Stick x's in it and I'd vote for it.

*Sigh* no blunt approach working? For once I forgot we're dealing with 14-15 years old teenagers with serious emotional problems and skin as delicate as a two month baby. -_-

I'm not kidding, I really did.

Anyway, to all people saying this was Nanami's doing, please recall that Akane told us their true desire. They think dying will stone their sin that was witch farming. They're deathseekers, all of them.

I thought a blunt approach would at least snap out of this and make her consider, and it did. Sorta. That's something.

Also, after this we might want to check our soul gem. Healing seems to be not as costly as it was before, but one can be never sure.

PD: Btw.
