SayakaQuest Thread 10: Glory To The Death

Moid had an excellent post on SB in Sayaka quest about why Rihaku's increasing ability on points & likes was terrible. That it was the mark of a good writer to find a way to write difficulty.

Does anyone know when he posted it?

Excellent. I'm using that as an argument in another quest why giving xp for omakes is bad.

With good writing you should be able to scale difficulty for your players that they can beat if they play smart, not a cakewalk or a curbstomp.

Like, that should be common sense.

I like running quests because not only can I give the players a challenge, but I can also make an interactive story out if it. It's not something that's really possible with any other medium.

Hell, not even video games can do this. It's kind of the ultimate thing in interactive storytelling and it makes things much more interesting.

Even if it's just a glorified interactive fanfiction.

Also, writing post.

Agreed. I just liked the way you presented it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "giving XP for omakes is bad" as a hard rule. It's only bad if you want to tell an even slightly serious story.

it seems dice gods love kyouko and hate the fluffy priscilla?

lets test that shall we?

edit: never mind apparently as long as kyouko is in the picture dice gods love her.

You give Kyouko an even tighter hug. "Hey...you know what?" You smile. "If I give you a hug, maybe that'll make you feel better."

"...You're already giving me a hug."

"Whatever."

[x]Wanna talk about it?

"...We can still talk about it if you really want."

"I do." She takes a breath. "It's just...I know you can heal. I-I know that...but it still hurts. I still hate watching you bleed like that."

"But those don't really faze me-"

"I know." She shakes her head. "I-I know it's not because you hate yourself b-but it feels like you do. It...it hurts, it always hurts." She rubs her head against your shoulder.

"Yeah." You pause. "...it...yeah."

"I love you, Sayaka." She mutters. "You know that, right?"

"Yeah, I do." You say. "...And it hurts to see you like that, too...honestly, I understand." You shake your head. "It's just...things are more important to me than whether or not my arm stays on. Like if I can save people from getting hurt or if I can protect my first girlfriend..." You giggle. You were expecting a boyfriend first. "...if I can help the girls that've fallen and keep them from killing anyone else."

She pauses as she rests her head on you again. "...Why are you so selfless?"

"Honestly, I don't know." You say. "...I guess that's just the kind of person I am."

Good thing that not all quests are serious stories. Or that not all quests can't scale up their enemies. Or that some quests are explicitly about turning the world upside down and shaking it until the loose change falls out of its pockets. (Shameless plug for my own quest)

One of the fundamental ideas of Sayaka quest is this: Walsplurgisnacht (Wallsplurgenight? Wallmartburger? Well slurpee night?) is always going to be more powerful than we are. No matter how powerful Sayaka is, no matter how many bazookas Homura has, no matter how smashy Akane is they cannot take down Walsplugriskni the big one alone. Only by working together do they have any chance of survival. And the kind of teamwork we have going on isn't the kind that comes from the QM going "okay, you spent 10 XP on awesome teamwork," it's the kind of teamwork that comes from learning about the NPCs and building actual relationships.

"But this isn't just about me, is it?" You look at her.

"No. It's not." She leans into you. "...It's about us. And everything..." She smiles thinly. "...Stop me if this sounds sappy, but it's been about 'us' since we met...hell, maybe some time when Homura started that time travel shit or something." She looks at you. "I...okay, I just wanted to be with you. I just wanted happiness. It's been like that since the beginning. And really...whenever we have those dates? Whenever you give me a hug or I give you a kiss or we spar together and when we flirt?" She looks at you. "...I feel happy. It's kinda weird. I've never been happy...not since-" She starts to choke, and you cut her off.

"Yeah." You hold her tighter. "I would be lying if I said I didn't hurt because of Kyousuke." You hold her closer. "But hey...I feel the same way. About the being happy part." You kiss her forehead. "...I feel happier now than ever before. And it's because of you." You giggle lightly. "...Love's like that."

"Teenage puppy love?" Kyouko asks.

"I hope not." You say. "...I really hope not because right now, I really don't see myself without you. I don't think of a future without you...I can't handle sleeping without you hugging me...you saw that before, right?"

"I know." Kyouko says. "...It...I feel that way, too."

You put your head on top of hers. "...unhealthy, maybe."

"I still love you." She says.

"Yeah...yeah, me too."
