SayakaQuest Thread 10: Glory To The Death

Hope you guys don't mind that I'm suddenly voting. I just finished reading the backlog and figured I'd join in the fun.
 
No, we don't. Some of us didn't started as this quest did, several months ago.

So, don't worry, and welcome aboard.
 
We totally should train our coordination. Teamwork, people, is how we prevent ourselves from losing limbs!
Koko doesn't like it when we lose limbs.
 
Well, if we have a whole 4 actions, spar now, co-op later, and maybe spend our last one trying out that shotgun-waverend idea NSMS had. That or some other technique.
 
[X] Spar.

"Alright. How 'bout a spar?" You say.

"Sounds good!" She pulls you out. "Just...uh...sorry."

"No, it's okay." You say.

"I'll make it up to you." She gave you a look with her eyes half-lidded. "...With hugs and cuddling."

You blink twice, before you giggle.

"What?! I was trying to be alluring. Beautiful for, you know, my girlfriend!"

"You don't need to try, you know!" You laugh even louder. "Love you, Koko!"

[ROUND 1]
You both stand at the opposite ends of an abandoned ring. You and Kyouko stare at each other, before she dashes towards you. You sidestep it quickly before giving her a quick right jab. She catches your fist with a single motion, before slapping her spear towards your face.

You parry it quickly, before you knock her spear away and jab two swords at her stomach. She knocks them down, sending them right into the ground and forcing your head down.

You don't have a second to react before, suddenly, you feel a sharp clang from the back if your head. Your face crashes into the dirt, and as the dust settles, Kyouko leans forwards. "You okay?"

"...fuck." You sputter. "...Uh...good job, Kyouko." You roll over weakly. "...ow."

She blinks twice. "Sorry, Sayaka!" She picks you up. "But...uh...I still won." She shoots you a stupid smile. "Can you handle my winnitude?"

You snicker a little.

[Kyouko now has a +40 bonus]

Something tells me Kyouko is still going to be in the hurt locker even with that +40 bonus.

Out of curiosity, why didn't Sayaka gain any roll bonus from that spar? I mean, it's kind of a two-way thing.

We should try to get Kyouko to experiment with making her spearheads do other things. Like explode. It seems generic enough to be a more general magical ability, and at the same time it would allow her to actually dump her big magic reserves into something productive. And given how easy it was for Sayaka to learn, it might just be a quick-enough thing for Kyouko to pick up.

Er, how exactly do you spar and attempt coordination at the same time? Wouldn't that just mean telling (or indicating) to your opponent what you're going to do, defeating the purpose of the spar?
 
We're going to need as much of a boost to general rolls as possible. Sayaka and Kyouko are already pretty coordinated, having been fighting together in a variety of situations ever since they met.

I would go with more sparring, but shouldn't they both get bonuses to rolls from that, rather than only one of them? If not, then I'd say more practicing of the basics--dodging, reaction times, situational awareness, movement speed, etc.

Think about it this way: we're not always going to be near Kyouko, nor are we always going to need even better coordination with her than we already have. But we will always need/use general skills like dodging, movement speeds, etc.

Plus, any coordination we try to plan out should have Homura present. She's the one with experience fighting WPN, after all, and would help us figure out what might work and what probably wouldn't.
