Akane: Yeah! *Slaps Kyouko's hand, breaking every single finger and shattering her wrist*

Akane: Yeah! *Taps Sayaka's fist with her own. Sayaka's hand promptly breaks in twelve places*

Akane: I didn't mean to! *Falls to her knees and looks to the sky with arms upraised* MY HANDS CAN DO NOTHING BUT DESTROY!
Sayaka: *Heals hand* Uh… Akane? Getting a little dramatic here.

I'd suggest focusing on Yoko, really. Poor lass is kind of justified in feeling a little useless right now.
 
Yoko? Useless? More like she's got the power most suited to defensive utility than offensive power. In almost any other anime she'd be a massive asset to the team as a whole due to the sheer potential of her magic. It's just her bad luck that she wound up in PMMM, a setting designed to kill her dead.

Her power quite literally is only limited by her max magic and imagination. One of which she has plenty, one of which she does not. If Yoko had even 1k max magic she'd be a force of nature in the proper enviroment. Tossing car sized hunks of shit at things would be an actual viable attack at that level of magic.

As it stands, Yoko simply does not have the efficency at being an offensive MG that the others do. She's really better off playing a defensive role in a team hunt. Of course, this is assuming Yoko can even manipulate whatever enviroment a Witch's Barrier is made of. We know that this is not always going to be the case. It's really just working on her basic staff skills that'll make the difference between Yoko surviving and dying. She's fine on the defense, but she can't spend magic on the offensive side without killing her efficency.

None of this is going to do wonders for her self esteem of course, but it's a damn sight better than Madoka. At least Yoko can help.

You are right about her magic reserves though. Am I right in assuming there's no way to increase that? I think I remember something about it being based on the level of bad karma or something you possess on contracting.

We've already done the former. She thought she had building control and small scale geomancy. Turns out she can manipulate/repair building materials. Building materials is a very, very broad category of materials. Remember, she fully repaired a car in the junk yard once. That has almost nothing to do with buildings. Hence, limited by imagination and maximum magic.

As for the latter, no, there's no way to increase someone's magical reserves after they've contracted. You can do what Homu did and increase it before contracting, but that's kind of a moot point. While there's no way to prove that statement in canon, giving the players the ability to increase their potential in quest would outright break the combat system for Sayaka.

And yeah, broken combat is bad. Don't want it to get quite that munchkin in here.

Yes/No really.

While her power set, and low maximum magic, lol-750, certainly lean towards a defensive/support style of team combat. She can certainly fight just fine on her own. It's just horribly, horribly inefficient and consumes far, far more seeds than we can spare right now. She'd most likely have to burn a clense a fight if not more.

In theory, with enough min/maxing and training, Yoko can still be a killer MG in combat assuming she's in the correct enviroment. I mean Sayaka's certainly shown that this can be true for even weak MG's like herself. It's the problem of not enough time to do said training, needing to focus on immediately effective/efficient skills against Walpurgis, her weapon being primarly a melee weapon, and the decided lack of any killer instinct in Yoko that make me shy away from attempting to focus her training onto the offensive side.

I'd much rather have an efficient MG geared towards defense/support, and the powerset to support it, than an offensive MG burning through seeds on the Walpurgis fight. We'll be burning through seeds aplenty as it is, we don't need to take the additional load for unsustainable offensive power. Besides, assuming that Yoko survives the fight, she can use her magic to help repair some of the damage which should, in theory, reduce the amount of new contracts Kyubey can snag post Walpurgis.

One more thing. What will hapen when Walpurgisnight threw a building on Yoko as she did to Homura in canon?
 
Yoko would witch trying to stop the whole thing. Hopefully she would only try to shunt the parts that would hit her or another girl aside. Core the building like a pineapple.

Assuming she didn't just dodge the thing. Or just decide not to show up. The newbies haven't made up their minds about that yet I think?

That made me think of baiting Walnut Night into throwing enough buildings at Yoko to create a giant hollow tube into the sky, like a concrete and glass soda straw.

"Yes." You say. "Your magic pool is relatively small, so yes. Exactly that." You nod a little, before you turn to Tomo and Sukuyo. "You two can hang back and fire, right?"

"Yes..." Tomo trails off a little, before Sukuyo starts to talk.

"B-but we can s-still do m-more."

"And I can do a lot with my powers!" Tomo says.

"True." You smile. "And honestly, I'm really happy that you've come up with a lot of uses for your magic. That said, you still need to think a little more strategically about your own powers."

"I already speed up my bolts." Tomo says.

"You could also speed up your enemy's. Throw off their aim." You grin. "Lots of uses for your power."

"But while we could just sit and talk, I think we should go hunting." You smile. "We have things to do, and I'm sure we could just sit and talk a little more later!"

Tomo opens her mouth at you, before she closes it and shakes her head.
