Rabbit Faced
You haven't met her for long. A few hours at best. But you can't shake the feeling that you've know her for a long time. Yes. That's how it felt at least to you. The two of you were walking through the streets of Mitakihara as the world.
Your name is Ruki Shironome and you were a Magical Girl.
After a rather tense meeting with the Military faction, you were escorting the strange new senior you've come to become find of. And you're not exactly sure why. Having taken the short route through the rooftops of the city, you both went the rest of the way on foot.
The girl you followed was one Akemi Homura, an impressive Magical Girl. A total stranger if you might consider it and yet here you were, following her like a puppy would. Was it something about her that just drew you in? She was pretty now that you had a look at her.
Her eyes were like sparkling jewels as her hair seemed to be blessed by the goddess of beauty itself. Or maybe she's just using a better conditioner than you. But it wasn't here appearance that drew you. Neither was it her power or kind words.
It just felt right being here, being by her side and helping her. Lights passed over you two as you walked before you somehow found your voice.
"Have we met before?" You asked and immediately your Senpai stopped. She turned and gave you a surprised look before she crossed her arms.
"What made you think that?" Homura asked with a raised eyebrow.
"It's just a feeling. I feel like I know you a lot longer than I do now," you admitted as you held your hand to your chest, "Is that strange?"
"No. It doesn't. Perhaps that you're just sharp... I appreciate your accompanying me today if I should make myself clear on that," Homura said as she cleared her throat, "Would you like to talk about it? My friend's apartment is quite off."
"Well for one thing... Calling you Senpai just rolls off the tongue so well," you told her as you crossed your arms.
"I am your senior. That much is expected," Homura said as she had thoughtful look.
"That may be. But given what you did back there at the base, how you acted. It seems like you're up to something urgent," you pointed out with a nod.
Homura was quiet for that as she turned her gaze down the street. Some cars passed you both by. It was a rather familiar street. This place would normally lead to the Park-
"The Wraiths. They'll be coming en masse."
"We have to protect the city."
"Ruki, Oriko, are you two certain of this?"
"This Outbreak, we'll overcome it."
You closed your eyes. Homura must have noticed your silence and placed a hand on your shoulder, "Are you okay?"
"I... Yes. Sorry, just feeling a bit dizzy," you lied as your head throbbed. You had been having strange dreams lately.
Dreams of another life, fighting on the edge, surviving, living... Suffering.
"Senpai... I had fun too. Today," you told her as you raised your head, "Until the day you discharge me, I'll be giving you my hundred percent. Though I suggest being more honest with yourself, it'll make people more convinced of helping you out in the future."
Homura's eyes widened as she stepped back. She then sighed and rubbed your head, "Did you just lecture me?"
"I just thought it would be a nice thing to say," you shined as you moved her hand. When you looked up she was already walking away.
"I enjoyed our time too. Come along now, the apartment is near," Homura said as she walked.
You smiled as a bus stopped beside you. You glanced at the reflection and saw yourself. A more disheveled version of yourself in your costume. Except that your body had been ravaged by a dark purple corruption. A lizard's tail sprouted behind your back then. The reflection's orange eyes looked back at your own.
"Don't fail. Not this time. Not again."
You blinked before turning away.
Looking ahead, you followed Homura just as your reflection followed a girl in a dark dress and tattered wings.

I regret a lot of things. But I guess writing that story isn't one of them anymore. Cheers!
