Mari quietly lays against Claire letting the girl get her words out.

"Firstly, you're not messing it all up. You haven't ruined anything." She softly wraps her arms around Claire. "You're my first friend Claire, my best friend. I'm not gonna just drop you because you have issues with people." She shakes her head, "I'm gonna try and help you work through your issues, you know?"

Mari lets go of her hug and moves to sit behind Claire, grabbing a brush from her nightstand and beginning to undo her friend's braid. "So. Everything's not okay. You said it yourself. Let me help, let me know how I can make things okay for you..." she pleads softly as she begins to brush out Claire's tangles. "I want you to be happy Claire, not just putting up a front all the time."
Claire swallows, blinking rapidly, suddenly glad her back's to Mari. Hearing this from Mari, Mari being there for her, her saying all that so directly- it stirs up an uncomfortable mix of relief and stinging guilt. Of course Mari cares. Stupid of Claire to...worry, just because she...has issues. Her breathing hitches, eyes squeezed shut, she sits there, quiet for a long while. She has to sit still.

"Sorry... I know I'm being stupid..." She murmurs. "I...I just wanted things to-to be like they were before, you know? Before you left? When it was just us? I-I know, I know that doesn't make sense, I know it's stupid, I know you're happier here and I'm glad we're not still there, and I don't want to keep getting in your way all the time, I know it's stupid and selfish..."

She stops, getting her breathing under control. Despite herself, she tries to look over her shoulder, back towards Mari.

"Just...things kind of sucked without you..."

Mari continues to brush as she listens. Oh Claire...why couldn't you just tell me that sooner.

As soon as Claire looks back at her Mari bonks her softly on the head. "You are such a dummy sometimes Claire." She wraps her friend in a tight hug. "I know it sucked, it sucked without having you here too. No one to watch anime with, or laugh at stupid jokes, or go running with. Or a hundred other things I wished my best friend was here for."

Mari sighs as she lets Claire go and flops back on her bed, "But as much as I missed you Claire, we can't go back to how it was, you know? We have to keep pushing forward; making new friends and new memories. As much as I love you like a sister Claire, I'm greedy. I want more friends, I want more people to care about and spend time around and laugh with."

"And you should too." Mari points a finger at Claire, "You're my best friend, you're the one that's been through every shitty situation with me, when we were in Japan. You know what it's like to be the outcast and the 'problem'. But!" Mari grins, "We aren't in Japan anymore. We don't get looked down on for looking different here. We don't get laughed at or our shoes taken from our lockers, or or or...all the other crap that people have done to us."

Mari sits back up and hugs Claire again, putting her chin on the shorter girl's shoulder. "I'm never gonna not be your friend Claire. You'd think you'd have learned that by now, but I guess I'll just keep having to remind you." Her grin never falters, taking whatever sting the comment may have had away. "So, come with me, to the future! Or at least stop being stuck in the past. I'm not gonna let it hold me back and you shouldn't either."

@EtchedSteel, @Firnagzen, @Krecart

Nina continues to frown. "Entrentched, as in long-time Magical Girls who operate in the territory. Like me in Boulogne-Billancourt," she explains. "Granted, the descriptions don't ring a bell for that, though I think I have heard of them in the passing, second-hand." Her face scrunches up as she tries to recall it. "I'm afraid nothing useful, though."

She sighs. "But if you have promised help to other people, whether as friends or allies, I think you should stick to your word. Fights happen between Magical Girls, that's life."
"Tsk," Marie says, humming quietly. "Yeah, promises are important. I keep mine - it's important when you move around 's much as I do. Need a good reputation."
@Firnagzen
"Just to confirm: you're, uh, 'in on this', Marie?" Yvette glances over at Sophie. "We're going to need some time to recover from the recent revelations,I think, but I want to get on this as soon as I can. Establish a border at least if we can't just get rid of them. Once they're taken care of I can move to more important things."

Hunting, training, networking, exploring the territory southwest of Paris proper, setting up a base of operations. Too much, really.
"Yeah, I'm in on this," Marie says cheerfully. "Sounds like fun, like I said."

"Thank you, Marie." Yvette says, earnestly. It's good to know she'll have some back up.

"Can I have your number?" She casts a nervous glance at Nina. It might be weird to ask for her girlfriend's phone number, but Yvette has been getting the impression that, for some insane reason, just contacting everyone with the incredibly convenient telepathy that they all have is rude. "We can get in touch once it's a good time to go after them. It probably won't be for a day or two. Sophie and I'll have to go hunting, I think."

"Also, I don't know if Sophie's going to want to get back into things too soon." Yvette adds privately to Marie.

@EtchedSteel
"Hey, um, how are you doing? We can go, if you want, or..." This actually having a friend thing is more difficult than she'd thought. "I can get you some water?"

@Schwer-Muta

Julie's expression drops into a pondering one at that. "Um... I hadn't thought quite that far," she admits sheepishly, but remains undaunted by the fact. "There's always the option of going to check on Big Sis and everyone else, even if you said 'not today' earlier?" The suggestion is a bit hesitant, as if she was just throwing it to the air. "Also, nothing stopping us from picking up some place to eat crêpes or something? Oh, and there are still places we haven't shown you in the City! There always are, but still..."

Nina nods. "There are always unknown variables and old info... but fair enough - I'll help you out as well if you would accept it?"

"I think we should stay close to our territory for today, given all that happened earlier," Aki quietly says. "Do you know a good place to eat that's nearby?"

Nina nods. "There are always unknown variables and old info... but fair enough - I'll help you out as well if you would accept it?"
Yvette looks up sharply at Nina. Damn it. She had to go and offer to help. Now, if Yvette refuses, she's going to look like a jerk and an idiot for refusing help from someone perfectly suited to the task. Two things she was most certainly not being earlier by implicitly leaving Nina out of her talk with Marie. Plus, she'll end up owing Marie and her girlfriend a favor now.

Damn. It.

"Sure," Yvette says with her best I Hate This, But No One Must Know smile. "I'd appreciate any help you'd be willing to give us."

Julie's expression lights up like a Christmas tree. "Oh, there are several!" she announces. "Think we could go where mom and dad took us the first time we moved here? They serve some awesome waffles. It's not too many blocks from here either."

@EtchedSteel, @Firnagzen, @Krecart

"Anytime! I'm always happy to help out friendly neighbors," Nina notes with a polite smile. Whether she has caught onto Yvette's discomfort about it, she doesn't show. But the concern that soon replaces the smile is rather obvious. "Will you be alright?" she asks Sophie, kneeling closer again.

"Yes... I'll be alright... now." Sophie managed to say between weaker, much more bearable coughs. She tried to stand up. "And some water would be nice."

Aki isn't really sure what she expected, but waffles definitely wasn't it. It does feel like a very... Julie suggestion, somehow. And Aki is still pretty hungry due to... not getting to eat all that much at Mari's place. Aki smiles back, even though it's not nearly as bright an expression as Julie's.

"That sounds great."

"Yes... I'll be alright... now." Sophie managed to say between weaker, much more bearable coughs. She tried to stand up. "And some water would be nice."
"I'll be right back then," Yvette says, standing up. She takes a look around the church, trying to gauge where the rectory or a kitchen would be based on the building's layout before walking off with a confident stride.

Yvette finds a small kitchen, and is in middle of pulling a cup out of the cupboard before it occurs to her that maybe she should ask Candide if any of what she's doing is okay. She pauses, sets down the glass and then looks around the room. Nobody seems to have followed after her in an attempt to stop her so it's probably okay? Presumably, someone will say something if she's overstepped. They usually do.

"Here you go, Sophie," Yvette says upon her return. She crouches down and hands her friend the glass of water. "When you're ready, we can figure out what to do with the rest of our day."

"Thank you, Marie." Yvette says, earnestly. It's good to know she'll have some back up.

@DrZiztah
"Uhh... I don't have a local phone, I move 'round too much," Marie says, tapping her chin. "You can just telepathy, or... heck. Nina? Mind if I give her your number for... I dunno, emergency contacts?"

"Yeah, look after her," Marie adds. "You can never have too many friends in this business."

Claire hugs Mari back, listens, and wishes she believed it was that easy. Maybe it is, for Mari...She's always been the one who can shrug things off better, who can look on the bright side...Maybe she's right, even with everything that's going on, all the people they've run into that really don't seem like there's any chance of getting on with. All of that's happened today, even.

And either way...Mari isn't going to forget about her, right? She wants to keep going, meet new people, and she wants Claire to be with her for that.

As her friend.

When she thinks of it like that, it's like there isn't much of a choice at all.

She sighs, lets go, and smiles wanly at her friend. Despite herself, she snickers as part of Mari's speech registers.

"To the future, Mari? Really? Kind of cheesy, don't you think?"

The half-smile that'd crept across her features flickers and fades, and she's suddenly almost subdued, sober almost at once. It's a long moment before she continues.

"...Yeah. I...Thanks. You're right. Of course you are. It'll be different. It...It'll work out this time, or the next. And...and you know I'll follow you. Forward, to the future, or whatever inspiring phrase you're about to think up. I...I get it. Just..."

She seems at a loss for words. So she hugs Mari again.

"Thanks for the reminder." She says quietly instead, after a while.

@Schwer-Muta

"Well come on, let's get going then!" Julie declares out loud, already preparing to run out of the house, only barely remembering to wait for you. She shifts impatiently on her place while you get ready, and you're soon following after her with a brisk pace.

The waffle restaurant itself is a bit busy at this hour you find, though you're able to get a table amidst the rush.

@Krecart

Finding the rather sizable kitchen is not too difficult, nor is finding what you need. The curious thing however is the space reserved for something else behind it, as you can hear people talk with each other there - a group of girls it sounds like.

@Firnagzen

"That's fine!" Nina declares quickly, turning towards Yvette. "Telepathy's usually the best option, but this is a good backup."

@DrZiztah

Aki is a little surprised to see the restaurant so crowded and busy and... noisy. Do the French really like waffles this much? Aki sits herself down next to a window, pressing lightly against it as if that extra few inches of distance from the rest of the customers will really help anything. All the sounds of the places and the words of the people bleed together in such a way that it feels impossible to pick anything out. Like it's just one constant, indescribable sound.

It's a little fascinating and a little uncomfortable. Aki will probably stop noticing it once she's eating something. She hopes.

"Uh... w-what do you recommend?" Aki asks, unsure if she can even be heard. How can anyone hear anyone in this place?

"Thanks for the reminder." She says quietly instead, after a while.
"Of course it's cheesy, Claire. I'm half French after all." Mari grins as she buries Claire in a tight hug. "Any time you need to remember, you can always count on me to remind you. Now turn around and let me finish getting those tangles out, you really ought to get a better nervous habit..."

Letting Claire go, Mari picks up her brush again and continues teasing out the tangles from Claire's hair. "I'm glad," Mari says quietly not really knowing what else to say, she's happy just to have her friend back again.

"Here you go, Sophie," Yvette says upon her return. She crouches down and hands her friend the glass of water. "When you're ready, we can figure out what to do with the rest of our day."

Sophie took the glass full with water from Yvette's hand. It was then when she came to realize her hand was shaking, yet she drank the water before giving any second thoughts.

It tasted horrible, but somehow she felt better.

"Right, huh..." Sophie had to recall everything the other girls were saying. Territories and information, right? "I think I can get going. I'll be fine."

Sophie faced Yvette and forced a smile. "So we have work to do, right?"

"Alrighty, thanks Nina, you're the best," Marie says, patting down her pockets and producing a bit of paper to scribble down a phone number, which she immediately passes to Yvette. "Here you go."

@EtchedSteel
She gives Sophie a slightly concerned look. "Are you feeling alright? You had quite the revelation."

"Thank you," Yvette says, taking the paper and holding back the burning need to ask why telepathy is okay now as opposed to when they first met. Hopefully, she'll never have to actually call Nina, but this is nice to have, she supposes.

@EtchedSteel
"And yes, we do, Sophie." Yvette beams at her friend's apparent recovery and use of the plural pronoun. Patrolling, hunting, experimenting with our powers, establishing a base, networking. Speaking of," Yvette says, standing back up, "I heard another group of, I assume, magical girls talking from the kitchen. If you're doing better, Sophie, I'm going to go introduce myself."

@Schwer-Muta

Julie seems to be wondering the same thing, though at least she seems to be able to hear you over the noises in the background. "Hmm... I'm not entirely sure myself? I can recommend the basic large waffle I took the last time! But it's also always important to try out new things if you can."

She gives Sophie a slightly concerned look. "Are you feeling alright? You had quite the revelation."

Sophie stopped smiling. Looking back at Marie and then at Nina, she hesitated before speaking while averting her look back to the floor. "It was, but I feel a bit better now. I... thanks for the water."

"You go ahead, Yvette. I'll join you in a moment." Sophie nodded, taking deep breaths.

"Hmm... I'm not entirely sure myself? I can recommend the basic large waffle I took the last time! But it's also always important to try out new things if you can."

Julie's right, Aki decides. Since arriving in Paris, a lot of new things have turned out well. Magic was new. Julie was new. Mari was new, too. Sure. Let's be adventurous!

...as adventurous you can be, when the subject is waffles.

"L-Let's try something new, then. What do you think looks good?"

"You go ahead, Yvette. I'll join you in a moment." Sophie nodded, taking deep breaths.
Yvette hesitates a moment before giving Sophie a brief hug.

"If you need anything, call me. Won't be far."

With that, Yvette—instead of asking anyone if it is, in fact, okay to go and introduce herself to whoever is in the room past the kitchen—sets off at the nonchalant pace of someone who believes it's already well within their rights to do so.

"Of course it's cheesy, Claire. I'm half French after all." Mari grins as she buries Claire in a tight hug. "Any time you need to remember, you can always count on me to remind you. Now turn around and let me finish getting those tangles out, you really ought to get a better nervous habit..."

"You're right...Sorry..."

The silence stretches on far, far too long.

"Mari?" She says after a long while, half-turning back to look to her friend, interrupting her work.

"Just..." She exhales. "What are we going to do?" She's not even sure why she's bringing it up now, or why the elephant in the room of the...everything that's happened lately is somehow the least awkward thing to talk about right now. Better to see what Mari thinks, come up with ideas together, than to just sit here in silence with her thoughts and that nagging.

"Now that we're with the Hospitaliers...and with the whole...territory thing, I mean..." Her mouth twists as she thinks back to that meeting. At least Aki hasn't tried to get them killed without even telling them first- yet, anyway- which still puts her ahead of Yvette.

"It...It just feels like things keep going wrong all the time, out of nowhere." She admits quietly. "Like whenever we get to just to catch our breath, something comes out of nowhere to ruin things..." She trails off. "Sorry, I'm being stupid again, it's just...I hate this. Feeling like I'm waiting for something else, or to screw up, and like I can't do anything to stop it...I guess, I'm just saying...Do you think we should do something?"

@Schwer-Muta

Julie's face scrunches up in intense thought. "Well, blueberry waffles are definitely good, as is whipped cream with strawberries... Chocolate can be a bit messy, but tastes really good! Ice cream's better for summer..." She seems to arrive at a decision, given her suddenlu lighting up expression. "What about putting all the berries on it!"

@Krecart

As it turns out, you're not stopped on your way to the room itself by Candide. The recovery ward itself is fairly spacious with room for several groups should the need ever arise. The people chatting among each other are grouped up over a bed close to the entrace, with two girls looming over a third one stuck on the bed. The trio obviously knows each other well, given the nigh instant guardedness they muster when seeing you - the tallest one in particular.

"...And who the h- who would you be?" she asks you, at least trying to be polite for now despite you having interrupted them.
